  1. if you want some meat alternatives some of the best places are holland barrett, most highstreets will have one..and if you want more of a choice check out the following http://www.goodnessdirect.co.uk/cgi-local/...cript/home.html and http://www.veggiestuff.com/acatalog/vegetarian_food.html and of course all your usual dhals and sabjis as mentioned... be careful with sandwiches from stores as most have mayo...best thing make your own with egg free may from holland and barrett....can also make a nice cheese and onion mix with that..
  2. have flagged also reported the backround picture
  3. sorry to hijack thread with another question but I thought better this than start a new thread. I wanted to know when was the first Anand Karaj ceremony performed, with the Bride and groom circling the Guru Granth Sahib ji? I have read it was first done by Baba Dyal Singh the founder of the Nirankari movement, and this led to the 1908 anand karaj bill, its been difficult to find any solid info on this.
  4. WJKK WJKF Here is another video, sorry did not catch the beginning of Bhai Inderjit Singh's Speech, but got most of it..very powerful...
  5. I watched the program, the first 10 mins anyway, had to put the kids to bed but it seems these are tumors all over his body. He is currently undergoing operations to remove these tumors and will need many more operations. The growths on his legs and arms are like tree branches and if left untreated would have covered his whole body eventually killing him.
  6. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh We are holding a Sahaj Paat at our house, The Guru Granth Sahib is upstairs next to our bedroom. My question is that our beds would have us higher than the Guru Granth Sahib so should we sleep on the floor for the whole week? This would have been easy but we also have small children who sleep with us. My wife says in India they had the palki on top of a manji which kept Guru Ji high. But with the palki all set up now there is no way of raising it. So please help us put our minds at rest.
  7. WAheguru Ji Ka khalsa Waheguru ji ki fateh if you google Babbar khalsa, with 2 b's you will get your answers, only problem then is finding a non biased site. the wiki entry gives a decent introduction to the Babbar Khalsa http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babbar_Khalsa
  8. I......(sigh) ........admit I play world of warcraft and am addicted  I NEED HELP!!!!
  9. i am loving this weather!! i commute into central london to work and when it gets hot outside its quite a few degrees more hotter down there! Last year was unbearable I would get to work needing a shower all hot and sweaty, this year has been fantastic. I am not a sun lover anyway, any hotter than 20C is too warm for me (how i survived that summer in India I dont know!) hopefuly it stays cool, until the autumn kicks in and that this is a new trend from now on!!! lets hope :WW: no more BLISTERINGLY hot 25C+ summers
  10. Wahe Guru ji Ka Khalsa Wahe Guru ji ki Fateh just wanna add my thoughts on this, I have been married 5.5 years now, have 2 amazing kids, initially it was fairly easy to keep to the rehit, getting up amritvela and doing paath, going to the gurudwara, but most of those are now impossible, I work 9-6 add 1 hour travelling each way, my wife works 7-3pm, i drop her off in the mornings, so we are both up at 5am. But our children are young, they crave attention, we rarely get to sit down and do rehras in the evening let alone go to the gurudwara or join groups or even sit and talk, its non stop, weekends are spent food shopping, cleaning the house, visiting relatives, taking the kids out etc. Sunday mornings are our time to go the the gurudwara, and we will go for as long as the kids can stay settled. I will soon be taking up study, so even less time in the evenings for me. My wife says its ok, waheguru understands that work and family responsibilities take up time, and that when they are older we can do more. What your describing is a young couple, no kids, with very little else to worry about.....
  11. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguri Ji Ki Fateh easier said than done!...i was there with my family, we had pushchairs with us but we tried our best not to get in peoples way and concentrate on the kirtan, but this is made very difficult by the pushing and shoving as people try to cross the road to get more food or drinks then try and push there way back again. I had some woman hitting the back of my leg with her pushchair to try to get past me, she saw her gap and went flying past. a man who pushed passed my wife then stuck out his arm in an attempt to stop her passing!!! i dont want to generalise but it was mainly the afghans.. the whole event was very commercialised now and it seemed most people saw this as a mela not the celebration of the birth of the khalsa. it was a very frustrating experience which seems to get worse year after year. my cousin had a fantastic idea of purchasing large volumes of material and make scarves or chunnis, then getting sevadars handing them out to people who have not covered their heads....how can anyone refuse! that could be an answer to one of the problems. the way i see it is think of the positives yes, but also think of ways of countering the negatives..
  12. waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh yes a Schengen visa...just checked up on it...cheers guys, and yes it seems the wife will need one... thanks :TH:
  13. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru ji Ki Fateh just a genereal question, wasnt sure which section to post to. Basically i need to know if my wife who has an Indian passport but is now a UK resident, living here 5+ years, needs a visa to travel within the EU Thanks :TH:
  14. i thought the african turbans are the folded ones with a point "kenyan" style as most in my family say, as I used to wear a similar style. I have now switched to a golh dastaar.
  15. yeah dont get me wrong, as K says it is exciting to see a sikh on TV, but couldnt he be the local GP instead or have a market stall, instead hes chatting up women (apparently) and drinking in the pub ( again apparently) maybe i am being paranoid!....afterall he is an extra on a soap and appears only for a few seconds, and from those few seconds i presume he is a womanising drunk...
  16. Vaheguru ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh I was watching eastenders last night, as i do.. and the Sikh sardar extra who wanders in and out of shots now and again was in it quite a bit last night. i first saw in him the Cafe having a cup of chaa and chatting to a yound asian girl. Then a few scenes later hes in the pub having a drink (juice i assume) and chatting to an older asian woman. so hes either being portrayed as a bit of a player and likes the ladies or hes just chatting to family or friends. and the fact hes got so much time on his hands that he can be in the Cafe then in the pub probably 10-15 minutes apart is a bit weird. at first it was quite funny, becuase he was in each shot for at least a minute and very much in view, but then i thought it doesnt look good this uncle ji with with pagh and dhari (tied up) sitting in the pub chatting to some woman. Maybe im just being pedantic, but you dont see many sikhs on TV so the few they show could be portayed better instead of as layabouts who sit around in the pub all day. anyway just thought id mention it, as it kind of stuck in my mind as he was also wearing a yellow pagh and stood out a mile.
  17. Wahehguru Ji Ka Khalsa WahehGuru Ji Ki Fateh thank you pwalla and akaalseva, there are some khalsa with some sense of right and wrong you dont take short cuts when uttering Wahehguru's name Wahehguru Ji Ka Khalsa WahehGuru Ji Ki Fateh Wahehguru Ji Ka Khalsa WahehGuru Ji Ki Fateh (cut and paste...it takes but a second) i've heard them, some shorten it down even further and make waheh khalsa waheh fateh
  18. Wahehguru Ji Ka Khalsa WahehGuru Ji Ki Fateh that maybe, but to overlook this as just a 'small' issue in my eyes is wrong, i was always brought up to say 'fateh' loudly and proudly when i greet another khalsa, (and always get in there first :TH: ) things may change, this is the internet generation, but why slack on the basics.... and if you guys are really that lazy you could cut and paste
  19. Wahehguru Ji Ka Khalsa WahehGuru Ji Ki Fateh Going through the forums alot of the Khalsa here shorten Wahehguru Ji Ka Khalsa WahehGuru Ji Ki Fateh to wjkkwjkf! which i don't understand? its like using text talk. Is it really going to hurt to type in full? they could write a page long topic in perfect english but start with wjkkwjkf? you don't greet other Khalsa in the street by saying W J K K W J K F so why use it anywhere else whether it be emails or internet forums. Could someone please explain the reasoning behind this, is it to save a few precious seconds? or cant be bothered to type in full? i await your replies Wahehguru Ji Ka Khalsa WahehGuru Ji Ki fateh
