  1. M Ranjit Singh, a few of his wives did jump in the fire at his funeral.. i think of the top of my head it was his rajput/kashmiri wives? not 100% sure of the accuracy of where the wives were from... but anwyays they did it because they thought it would be an honor... its recorded in history

you have 799 posts, a person would be hard pressed to find a post out of your 799 where you actually added productively to a topic or discussion... im surprised your not under moderation @
  3. one of the forum rules is • Please refrain from posting meaningless threads, one word (or short) non-sense posts, or such. alot of people have been posting useless stuff, you dont have to announce your personal life to the whole world.. makes it hard to browse through a topic when 3 out of a 6 page thread are full of people tlaking to each other about nothing... use msn for personal convos .. and than people complain when someone makes a comment about something that is personal to them, so dont make your person stuff known if your not gonna be able to listen to stuff about it afterwards
  4. im sure theres singhs in ottawa willing to help you out... get japman to get the ball rolling... or just pm me the fauj is waiting to be called ----- dont take this lightly, last year in ottawa there was a singh in grade 10 and a gora cut a bit of his hair sticking out of the back of his dastaar during an assembly... the gora has been dealt with
  5. they dont allow it in CAnadian courts just take the ticket, and hope the cop doesnt show up...
  6. im not disagreeing with you about keertan, i enjoy listening to keertan more when the whole sangat is sitting together... im just making a point that the stage serves a practical purpose when ppl have pothi's with them (for example katha). (the same case can even be made with amrit keertan)... because i doubt people had amrit keertan pothis in the days of our guru's they probly did keertan by memory) *btw im just showing a different perspective
  7. When someone is doing katha from the stage, and has a pothi with them, that person should be on a higher level... if you take santhiya with certain ppl, you will sit higher if you have a gutka in your hand compared to people who dont have a gutkas in their hand...
  8. Sinister, its good that your making people think... but before asking all these questions, sharing all these theories, try 1 thing.. thats all i ask.. live the lifestyle our guru's preached, wake up amritvela everyday, do nitnem, spend time doing simran, take out daswandh, do sewa... dont ust do it for a day, do it for a few months, feel Sikhi for yourself.. than come back and post all your theories and questions... sound good?
  9. Gorai on the whole are always gonna dislike us, most of the time its covered up, but when you allow them to post under a fake name their real feelings come out. Even the papers are biased towards Sikhs, even if they play it of like their not... dont look for support from anyone... realize its just a poltical game, and learn to play it... only time someone is going to respect you is when you have more power over them
  10. It's sad to see the intolerance towards one of our kakkars, the kirpan. The kirpan is not a 'sword' its more of a 'shield', its never to be used as the aggressor, never used to oppress. It is meant to uphold justice, and protect the weak. The police wear their guns and no one is intimidated or afraid because they know the gun is their to protect them. THE SAME THING WITH THE KIRPAN, we just need to make people aware of this. For example if a Sikh see's someone being mugged by 5 people, the Sikh had the duty of of running in there and helping the person being mugged without thinking of his/her own safety. A Sikh will sacrifice themselves to protect/help those in need. People need to think about these following points. 1) has a turbanned Sikh ever been involved in a terrorist attack? NO 2) has a Sikh every used a kirpan to initiate violence? 3) has their been any reported cases of a kirpan being used in a negative way? Another major point, Sikhs are not allowed unseathing their kirpan unless its a life or death situation and to protect themelves or others. People have nothing to fear, Sikhs have had kirpans since 1699 (even before that), and it has NEVER been used for wrong. The VIA incident that just happened, it's hypocrisy. On the first class dining cart they willingly give out knives and forks for people to eat, those can easily be used as weapons. Kids with sharp pens can run around stabbing people, theres so many sharp objects on the train. People can even conceal a weapon and come on the train if they want to cause trouble. Balpreet Singh who came on the train wearing a kirpan which was visible to everyone isnt allowed on. Now let's think, if the kirpan is visible to everyone do you really think hes going to cause trouble, when theres so many other ways to get a weapon on board or to bring one on board without causing attention to ones self. It just makes no sense, Sikhs are honest law abiding citizens, and should be treated as so. Sikhs weres the first regiment to land at Flanders Fields to fight the Germans, Sikhs were the personal security to the Queen. Sikhs have always sacrificed themselves for others, it isn't about the change now. We just have to let the world know
  11. heres the link of the video, for whoever missed it CBC CANADA NOW VIDEO Click HERE to download
  12. They played it... it was good. basically showed that Ottawa U accepts the kirpan, Balpreet Singh has never had a problem before, kirpan is like a body part to a Sikh.... and VIA isnt allowing it, and now Balpreet cant go home to visit his family...
  13. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh This is very sad news that a govt organization has banned the kirpan. We have 3 'Sikh' MP's in Ontario as well as some in BC and Alberta , we should lobby all of them, aswell as other MP's to raise a voice about this. VIA is a government run organization and for them to ban the kirpan is unacceptable. Also we should get all Sikh organizations working together on this, this is a very serious thing, and a united front has to be shown, where we work together to raiase awareness and put pressure on VIA and the parliament of CANADA. UK Sikhs have done a good job in putting pressure on their government, now its the Sikhs in Canada's turn... Kirpans not a weapon, we have to let the world know... They are going to be airing an interview on CBC with this Singh at 6 30 this evening, its becoming a National Issue... its now time to let our voices be heard... Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

  18. Congratz on keeping your hair and walking on the path of sikhi... there is no need to be vegan, as there is milk in degh aswell as kheeer in the langar. mad respect to you for getting into sikhi even though your family might not be, that takes a lot of courage... about cheese, you can eat cheese, but if you want to be a proper vegetarian and not inbetween, than avoid cheese which contains rennet. goodluck!
