  1. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! Mac sticking with its original core? Do you know that MacOSX is actually FreeBSD? After Mac version 9 was a horrible failure, they took BSD (a unix like operating system) and adapted it for the mac. The difference is that for the linux GPL you need to contribute the code back, but for BSD, you don't need to. So effectively, Mac swiped code from free software, claimed it their own, and is now taking credit for it. I do use linux once in a while, so i know its advantages, but whatever advantages that Mac has has been strongly "borrowed" from others. To me, the dark side are the ones who take from others and claim credit. Windows has been uniquely microsoft. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  2. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! Well that just goes to show that "clicking" in a 10 minute meeting means squat. I recall there being a similar case in Canada last year... and actually what the government did was determine that the woman married pretty well just to come to canada, and took off (divorced) soon after she got here. Effectively they said that she lied on her application (false statements) and deported her back. If that happens more often, I see "problem" marriages like this being reduced. Good Or Bad

Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! But at the same time, don't forget to stand up for what's right... you must respect your parents, but you don't always have to follow them if they are wrong. Classic example: Guru Nanak who disobeyed his father several times to do what was right. :umm: Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  4. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! Well, I might give that macbook a chance, but i'll never switch over completely to the dark side... its either Windows or if not, linux, for me! Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  5. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! Well then i totally apologize. It might be a recent version update that activated that. Sweet... methinks me gonna give that macbook a second chance maybe... Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  6. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! Well guess what smartsingh.. it DOESN'T work. Simple. Since you are the one using macOSX, maybe give it a try before outright saying that "no it does work". Or even google it up. I've been trying, and searching forums far and wide, and there is NO satisfactory solution. Trust me, because i WANTED it to work. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  7. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! smartsingh, using parallels, yeah you can do the double tap. Its a software thing. NOT in bootcamp. There are some utilities out there, so that you can press cont- and click the button to right click, but I'm sorry... in windows everything needs right clicking, and being a "power user" i tend to right click everything. I NEED that second mouse button. And like i say, too bad because if that button was there, Apple would have another sale! Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  8. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! Although some disagree with me, my head is only for SGGSjee. I see anything else related to our guru as pure idol worship... would you bow to cloth worn by a guru, or the guru himself? Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  9. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! So then what's the deal? For those who are all gung-ho for stopping this, EXPLAIN your reasons please. And "they're muslim" doesn't cut it. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  10. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! Well, the phrase "Naam Japo, Kirt Karo, Vand Chako" has been attributed to Guru Nanak. In essence it means: Naam Japo: Meditate on Waheguroo Kirt Karo: Earn an honest living (Hard work) Vand Chako: Share with others (Volunteer time, effort, and money) There are individual quotes to support each of these independantly, however I am not sure if they appear together in the SGGS. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  11. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! It is always a balance: kirth karo, vandh chako, and naam japo You've got to meditate with sangat on naam, volunteer and do seva, but you also must "live" and "work hard" as well. A truly balanced life must incorporate all three into it. So yes, sometimes if exams are around the corner, take some time and maybe study instead of something else... but balance it out later when you are more free. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! 12. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! Wow, this got off topic fast haha. Basically, just use whatever you find easiest. Personally, I would never buy a mac (I can't stand a few things... like resizing a window ONLY in the bottom right corner, only a single mouse button on their laptops...) but I can see why some people would prefer it. The basic software available are pretty well even for you, since your college uses mac, almost all mac software are also available for windows too. Macs look prettier, windows can be less expensive. With windows, there is also a LOT more choice for specs... slow fast, good/bad graphics, webcams, speakers, ... which is why I prefer it. So yeah, it comes down to personal choice jee... whatever you find easiest to use. As for warrenties, I've heard bad things about Apple's support... I would recommend buying from a big-box store and getting their extended warrenties, the quality of service is usually much better for windows and mac. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! 13. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! Well if your college only uses apple computers, and you are studying multimedia it makes sense to get a Mac. Of course, if you realize you need windows later, you can always dual boot or use parallels. But it depends of course. If you find Macs to be unconfortable, then use windows. The thing is everything that is available for the Mac platform is available for windows, and then some. But some of the key shortcuts and things like that are different on the mac and it might be weird switching back and forth at home and college. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  14. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! Either you can use bootcamp, which will on boot up give u a choice of either windows or MacOSX every time, or you can use Parallels or VMWare, which can both run windows INSIDE of MacOSX. Obviously doing the second has the advantage of much slower but running them both at the same time. The biggest downside of the Macbook which is the ONLY reason I am not getting it, is ONLY ONE MOUSE BUTTON!! For windows, you pretty well NEED a right mouse button which the Macbook does not have. It has one honking huge button. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!

    Karra Issues

Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! The punj pyarai are any 5 trusted, honorable amritdhari gursikhs. I'm sure you should be able to find a few of them to give you advice. But yeah, I would recommend staying away from the steel ones if they cause problems and using the pure iron (sarbloh) ones. And then again, there are different quality ones. Some are basically raw iron, others are polished: each of these may make a difference for rashes and stuff. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  17. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! I would say they are both good upgrades, but not worth the cost if you already have it. Vista especially, it has a lot of new features, and if you are buying a new computer, definately get it with Vista, but don't bother upgrading a system you already have, its probably not worth it then. For office, I would say the same thing. I noticed a big change from Office 2000 to XP and 2003, with 2003 the one I am using now. Its really good and adds small things that make it a pleasure to use. I've beta tested 2007 and i must say the new graphics (especially powerpoint) make it amazingly incredible over the previous versions. Since I am buying a new machine soon, I am probably going to buy Office 2007 with it. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  18. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! So at this age we are "tempted" by the opposite sex... so does that mean we can't go outside either? Use these forums? MSN? play sports? I recall the opposite sex being in all of these places. The point of sikhi is that we don't need to live a yogi lifestyle, we don't need to run away into the forest and isolate ourselves from the rest of the world to do bhagti. Rather, we should live IN this world, and challenge maya head on... that's how we overcome its hold on us. As for myself, I'm a happy facebook user! Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!

    Gurdwara

Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! Yup. It depends on the gurdwara, but generally. - There is always a program on Sunday mornings... usually 10am-noon - There are almost always programs on Saturday evenings... usually around 5:30-8/9pm Other than that, it usually depends on how busy the gurdwaras are. Some have programs every evening, and others have smaller programs early in the mornings. The best bet is to ask the guy at the desk or a giani as they would know for sure. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  20. This is where its wrong then, Commitees have the authority of who gets married, if she wants to marry a white man then go to a registry, the danger is on the sangat, just imagine a young sikh "look mum that girl is marrying a gora so it must be ok if we allow it in a Gurdwara. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! I don't see it anywhere here talking about them marrying in a gurdawara... do you? Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  21. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! Awesome keertan for sure! Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  22. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! Its the idea of meditation: if you learn to focus on a single thing, you can reach a point of clarity. That's why Mantra exist. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  23. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! Goto http://www.ubuntuforums.org and search up the name of your card: manufacturer and model number. There is a good chance that someone else has had a similar issue. If not, put a post there: those guys are really helpful in finding the right drivers. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  24. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! Unfortunately, its not your choice, or some old guy on a commitee's choice. Its their choice. If they have little value for sikhi then that's their problem: we have no right to denounce it or force them otherwise. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  25. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! That's a little more of a grey area... some people say that keertan cannot be owned or copywrited, but its how they make their money too. If you listen to AKJ/Sangat style keertan, then its of course free, but the premade recordings might be different. Some places like Sikhnet have a large collection, and I believe they have paid royalties for the keertan they have in stock. Its a difficult question... Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
