  6. Rabbi: Hang Arab children from trees Wed, 26 Mar 2008 18:59:56 http://www.presstv.ir/detail.aspx?id=49052...ionid=351020202 A Zionist cleric has urged the Israeli regime to give the green light to the massacre of Arabs in retaliation for Palestinian attacks. In an article published in the newsletter Eretz Yisrael Shelanu Shmuel Eliyahu, the chief rabbi of Safed, has urged the Israeli regime to officially allow "revenge against Arabs to restore Israel's deterrence." "I'm not talking about individual people in particular, I'm talking about the state. [israel] has to pain them to the point where they scream 'Enough,' to the point where they fall flat on their face and scream 'help.' Not for the sake of satisfying the need for revenge but for the purposes of deterrence," he wrote. In the newsletter Eliyahu proposes "hanging the children" of those who attacked the Mercaz Harav yeshiva from a tree. The rabbi added: "We'll stay here. We need to live with those who understand very well the language of revenge." On Wednesday, Mossawa Center, an Arab human rights group, called for a probe into Eliyahu's remarks.

  8. As Fighting Flares in Civil War, Key Buddhist Shuns Nonviolence By Emily Wax Washington Post Foreign Service Wednesday, March 26, 2008; Page A13 COLOMBO, Sri Lanka -- Draped in his burnt-orange robe, Athurliye Rathana strolled onto the veranda of a posh hotel here one recent evening and an entire wedding party adorned in fine silks knelt as one, in a gesture of respect and honor to one of the country's best-known monks. "I guess I'm popular," said a slightly surprised Rathana, 45, rubbing his shaved head. "I knew our Sri Lankan people love monks. But I didn't know they loved the 'Parliament Monk.' " Rathana is a celebrated figure in this predominantly Buddhist nation, where monks are cherished for their spiritual guidance. But he is known for more than just his religious leadership. Dubbed the Parliament Monk and the War Monk by the Sri Lankan press, he is a legislator who has pushed for the use of military force to end this island nation's 25-year civil war, which has left 70,000 dead and displaced nearly a half-million people at its height. "Am I an extremist? Sometimes I am. Sometimes I am not," Rathana said over green tea, when asked about reports from foreign human rights groups that accuse his party of hindering peace talks. "The point is that we need to end this war. And we are forced into a military solution." Rathana fits into the tradition of monks across Asia who have embraced political causes. Last fall, monks in Burma risked their lives to rise up against the country's ruling military junta; more recently, monks in Tibet have been at the center of ongoing protests against the Chinese government. The sporadic war in this country has divided and weakened society, reigniting long-standing ethnic tensions between the majority Sinhalese, who are predominantly Buddhist, and the minority Tamils, who are mainly Hindus and Christians. In recent months, there has been a surge in fighting between government troops and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, the separatist group known as the Tamil Tigers, or LTTE. The government of President Mahinda Rajapaksa has regained territory in the eastern reaches of the island, known as the Wild East. But in the thick jungles of the north, heavy fighting still rages. Aid groups operating in the region say hundreds of Tigers and civilians have died over the past few months, though claims cannot be independently verified because the government does not permit journalists to travel near the front lines. Rathana's party, the Jathika Hela Urumaya, is led by monks and is the staunchest supporter of the government's military offensive. The party does not represent most monks in Sri Lanka, who are largely committed to nonviolence. "As a Buddhist monk, I think every bad thing should be finished," Rathana said. "Here in Sri Lanka, we have terrorists who brutally murdered people. As monks, we must defend ourselves and fight back. That is reality." As many as 30,000 mostly Sinhalese young men have signed up for the army in the past few months, spurred in part by activism by Rathana and others. The Tigers still control the northern tip of the country and have vowed to continue their struggle for a separate Tamil homeland. The war has left the north and east of this former tourist haven a shambles. White-painted monuments of Buddha are battle-scarred. Many of the roads leading to the country's mostly Tamil east are potholed and nearly impassable, with checkpoints every few miles where government troops search travelers and their luggage. Caught in the middle are Tamil civilians. Many fear both the Tigers, who forcibly recruit children and adults, and government troops, whom human rights groups have accused of carrying out false arrests and abductions. While Rathana is treated like a rock star in Colombo's elite circles of Sinhalese, he has vocal critics. Mano Ganesan, a Hindu Tamil member of Parliament, characterized him as "highly divisive and offensive." He said Rathana and his party have "not helped in pushing for a peaceful solution. They are only creating more militant Tamils." "This is not Buddhism at all," Ganesan said. "This is using Buddhism to justify politics and a policy of war." Rathana's name, meanwhile, invokes panic among many ethnic Tamils, who say they are often targeted for harassment by police and paramilitary groups. Palitha Kohona, Sri Lanka's foreign secretary, said the government was taking those issues "very seriously. But the LTTE is using this to fight a propaganda war. We are reaching out to moderate Tamils to help us fight the terrorists." Rathana said his entry into political life was not easy, explaining that his parents were unable to accept his political calling at first. Born into the upper middle class -- his father was a prosperous goldsmith -- he became a monk at age 15. In his youth, he was a communist. But his views on government changed as he watched the 1998 bombing of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, in the spiritual capital of Kandy, home to a tooth allegedly snatched from Buddha's funeral pyre, he said. Rathana has defended keeping foreign monitors out of Sri Lanka, saying the country has for too long been ruled by outsiders, from the Portuguese to the Dutch to the British. The British once favored the Tamils for jobs in their administration, and the Sinhalese, Rathana said, "had to fight to regain representation in the government, even though we were the majority." "We can sort this out on our own. We tried to discuss things, but the LTTE always wanted to fight," he said, sounding more like an army general than a legislator or monk. "We must do our duty on the battlefield." http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...8032502695.html
  9. wjkk wjkf! i thought it would be a good idea to add(make a list of) good useful websites. i know we can use google and find some...but even when we use google search sometimes we cant get to the good ones. i'll start with this site: www.theheartdiseases.com
  10. i like the punjabi hahahaha
  11. i dont get it .. what are u all on about? i like what is said in the article "donate to charity or to spend time with others, both of which are strongly associated with happiness." sharing ur honest living and sangat
  12. good advice ^^^ was gonna say the same but good u postd it. orgnl poster...or anyone else who feels the same or is in the smiler situation. Trust me, u will find some beautiful soul there who would start talking about guru sahib/ bani/sikhi/vichaar if thats what u want.not everyones there to dance. here is another thing u can do, u can just observe without having these negative thoughts about how dumb/crazy/idiots/stupid people at the party are. dont judge or have these thoughts and make urself miserable for the time u gonna "HAVE TO BE THERE". u cant do anything else about it can u?...so why make it more difficult for urself? why not make the best out of it? world is reflection(mirror) of our thoughts most of the time. u can also see how happy these people are ...enjoying themselves all together. how wonderful it is that these beats make us humans move with it! how powerful is this music?=)(which makes all of us forget about our problems for that instance and indulge in thse few moment?) families are together..even though they all have their differences and have these grudges or hard feelings ...still they come together. watch our "unconscious selves" doing our thangs!=) u have a choice there...we all do. u can choose to see this event or the time u gonna be there as positive or negative experience. even in the mildest of ugliness we can find beauty with his grace. but then again what is ugly and whats beautiful? isnt it our perception or understanding of the situation? whats ugly to u might not be for me and whats ugly to me might be beautiful to u :console: bhulchuk muaff karni waheguru ji kakhalsa waheguru ji ki fateh!
  13. my question is how did he give info? were the sikhs in contact with Dalai Lama?
  14. well then try to find people who interest you. when u r around people who dont interest u, just be the way u usually are, listen to them or excuse ur self frm the convo and find those who are somewhat like u. if u cant then at the end or somewhere in between ... just kinda say...im sorry im just a quite and a shy person, so dont mistake me for being rude or arrogant=) most people understand that because they been in simler situations before. i would say> u should accept the fact that u have different interests than the people u around that momemnt and that many will find u "weird" lol its normal for us humans to think others who dont behave or are at diff level as weird. as u have said before....u are urself when u are with ur friends and close family members thus u aren't really WEIRD or any different then many of us. we all feel bit awkward and dont feel like talking because we are new and dont really know the other people etc. i hope u kow what im talking about. it takes time...believe me. u and all of us are still growing. do u have any best mate(s) at uni? or someone, after all the lectures and being with people... to cme back and just relax with or chat with? as someone have shared their experince of uni...see if that helps. have u evr read the story of a butterfly? it was posted here somewhere. i will try to post that link so u can read it. it will help u think about u tryin to get out of ur shell. and about being labeled as mean. do u care if they label u with such names? i see that u want people to see u for who u are from inside. again know and accept it that MANY WILL MISUNDERSTAND U. only few will know who u really are from inside. thats why we only have very small # of BEST FRIENDS or some times just ONE!(sometimes not even one..exccpt akal!) even if u try to be nice and kind people will misinterpret it u are still tryin to know urself..and wont completely understand the "self" its that complex to tell u the truth. ask any old person and they will tell u how they have discovered many new things about themselves that they didnt know were (in) them. if u want to change something...start out small. wanna know one of the reason why we are afraid of showing our true emotions to anyone(people who dont really know us and cant differentiate between the emotion u in at the moment and who u really are deep down)? its because there is something inside of us telling us that 'if i get angry or joke....this person might take me wrong...or think something of me which i am not!' so we stay quiet; dont want the person to misunderstand us. it shows that u are aware of this fact of ur action/reaction and peoples interpretation of it thus stay quiet. i was told that being quiet is one of the virtues and a great tool when "used" at the right time. again give ur self sometime and know that there is nothing wrong with u. it will come out...maybe not right away, but it will dont let the peoples thought of u as being "mean" get to u. remind ur self if u have to that u are not that....u are lively, kind and funny person. go in the company of those who bring that out in u now and then(cant happn evry day prolly cuz u are away from them or have other things to do..) ....smile=) let me know if nything confuses u, or if u have found a way to be urself akal sahai!
  15. wjkk wjkf! first i thought u were a girl ( stereotypical stuff=( )...but then reading further i find out ur not. well tell me this: are u really happy being on ur own? because what u said before was that u have a "problem" and u are askin its just ur personality. u might change u might not...it all depends on the environment u are in. i used to be shy...and hardly talked to anyone...but over time things have changed a lot and i can just go to anyone(depends on the other person too) and start chattin with them (lot to do with the courses i took and people i hug out with at uni). dont be soo hard on urself. as long as u are happy with who u are and u know u are not being arrogant or anything like that...u be fine!=) just accept it. stop listening to ur minds thoughts about who or what u are=) i hope this helps...but i would liketo know more about what is really bothering you? do u want to talk to the people? u want to know how to have a conversation with them? how to start, what to say? and how to "pretend" what they saying is interesting?(yes many people pretend and wait till it's their turn to speak) what do u wanna know. it is a skill...and u can master it if u want to! im sure many people here can help and direct u in the right direction. bhul chuk muaff karni akal sahai! wjkk wjkf!
  16. bhahahahahahaha i know ...these Canadians tsk tsk tsk lol u do realize that u jus messin up a really good informative thread hahaha
  17. Govt. issues notification banning surrogate liquor ads New Delhi (PTI) The government has issued a notification banning surrogate advertising of liquor companies in print, electronic and outdoor media. "The notification was issued on February 25, 2008, amending the Cable Television Networks Rules, 1994 to the effect that no advertisement shall be permitted which promotes directly or indirectly, sale or consumption of cigarettes, tobacco products, wine, alcohol or liquor," Information and Broadcasting Minister P R Dasmunsi told the Lok Sabha in a written reply. He said "failure to comply will entail action as per the provisions of the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995 and rules framed thereunder". The minister also added that even the Press Council of India, a statutory autonomous body, has laid down the norms for journalistic conduct under Article 13 (2)(b) of the Press Council Act 1987, stating that "no advertisement shall be published, which promotes directly or indirectly production, sale or consumption of cigarettes, tobacco products and other intoxicants. http://www.hindu.com/thehindu/holnus/001200803181653.htm
