    Kachi Bani

Here's what someone said about this topic: kachi bani, can be bani that has been slightly changed by someone for their own silly intentions, or 'bani' made from scratch lol by someone that is trying to attract the sangat to themselves rather than guru ji, however baba ji falls into none of these categories. when we go to gurdwara on sundays we listen to kathavachaks, kaveesheries (people hu do poems) and dhadis, we do not call these kachi bani becuase they are not, these are different ways of explaining guru jis bani and telling history, these are different ways of steering sangat towards guru ji. like a kathavachak might do katha on this line naam bihoon jeevan koun kaam |1| rehaao | Without the Naam, of what use are their lives? ||1||Pause|| and in panjabi he might explain, naam toh bina, ohna jindagia da ke faida? a kaveesheree will make this into a poem and make it ryhme n wat not, similary baba ji useing a very old tecnique of dharna used by mahapurkhs like sant isher singh ji, will sing this translation, maybe like this 'Banda bandgi toh behgehr kiseh kam da nehi!' he uses dharna to sing translations and to tell history, you will notice this when you listen to baba ji and also notice how he always talks about amrit and guru ji and guru jis bani only and never him self or any other people. sant jarnail singh ji use to sing 'SIR JAVEH TA JAVEH MERA SIKHI SIDHAK NA JAVEH!' is this kachi bani? no, this is a way to motivate the sangat n to pump the sangat exactly wat baba ji does, wen he sumtyms sings ' EH KAUM HEH BABBARA SHERA DEE' the singing of translations can really have more of a impact, sant jarnail singh ji, sant isher singh ji jina neh 900.0000 prania nu amrit shakayaa, can these mahapurkhs be wrong, afraid not, even when we are in doubt, we should ask in respect, sir neema kar keh, sanoo kee patha ya? if we still do not agree lets not be rude but simply walk away, bhul chuk maaf guroo guroo

  3. Read "The Gallant Defender" written by AR Darshi. He's Hindu, former judge, and former joint secretary to the punjab. Google search for it as the book is available for free online. I doubt you'll find too many more accounts that are more authoritative than his.

you've probably seen doctors no doubt. but try meeting with a registered dietician to get a proper diet set up for you that will minimise the problems and help you deal with the weight issue. doctors generally know very little about nutrition as that is not their area of expertise. also, start an exercise program that includes weightlifting. see someone who is a specialist, they will help you. it may be expensive, but when you consider the benefit that you may gain out of all this, you'll see how it is an excellent investment. As for the hair, i realise it's tempting to get laser treatment etc. But in sikh dharm the hair is regarded as waheguru's gift to us, to all humanity not just amritdhari's. when i first got amritchuk i used to have long nose hair. it made me feel very insecure, singhni's deal with facial hair, i'm singh who dealt with long nose hair - trust me people think that's much worse!! but i did my nitnem everyday, it made me stronger. i noticed that doing sangat with sikhs made me care less about these things, doing sangat with others made me feel insecure. mostly though, it was doing paath that made me feel stronger, made me care less. it's not an issue for me anymore. keep doing sangat with sikhs who support you, if you don't know anyone (just like i didn't for years), than go to the gurdwara and sit in darbar sahib. the guru is always with you. and the people there, regardless of wether or not you know there names, are your sangat. you can always pm me if you want.
  7. some of the best kirtan i've ever heard. which one do u recommend most for those of us who don't have time to listen to all of them.
  8. The issue of white immigrants entering the country does nothing to address why the patterns of violence are not as predominant, its the environment and structural policies that influence interpersonal violence. -precisely.
  9. Because , i think, all of the white people in the US and Canada are also recent immigrants of that country. Agreed. But it seems to me llike there is more than that involved.
  10. any evidence he was indira ghandi chamcha?
  11. why are there so many issues like this in the UK and europe, but not in Canada, and to a lesser degree, the US?

  13. Even Bani that has no controversy over it by any but the worst naastiks like Jaap Sahib was not put into Guru Granth Sahib. The 10th Guru didn't put any of his bani into it. Maybe b/c Dasam Bani si meant specificially for Khalsa, wherease Guru Granth Sahib ji is meant to be more universal. It's a commonly acepted fact that the 10th Guru wrote the Bani and Bhai Mani Singh ji put the varioius banis together into what is now called Dasam Granth Sahib ji. Only nastiks don't believe in dasam bani, the only controversy over it began in post 1900 with teja singh bhasauria (the same person who tried to remove Bhagat Bani from Guru Granth Sahib ji).
  14. Sikha, I'm not a kid. Also, I don't see how it's beadbi to use commonly accepted abbreviations in an informal venue like an internet message forum. Either way, let's please stick to the issue.
  15. "so if that is ok why is beating up a patit for living as a total manmukh but appearing as a saintly person, and totally d" completely wrong. Bhai Fauja Singh in all examples you gave stopped somone from harming another physsically. This smoker is not harming others physically. Even if he was, that's a job for the police to take care of. They're quite good in this country so there is no excuse. We are not vigilante. Sometimes, people's bad karma awakens aned they go on the wrong path. Sometimes, people are meant to be separated from sikhi. You've done your part by discussing with him, I say just let it go on a personal level between you two. However, where the Guru is concerned, if this guy is doing seva of the Guru etc, you should tell teh committee and prevent further beadbi.
  16. I haven't actually seen this kind of thing, where the Gurdwara committees go crazy about the ''oh no's''. But then again, maybe my Gurdwara is different. Kids are allowed to do kirtan (they get training first) and even sing dhadi vaars! "One thing that did come to mind was how Sikhs of the past wouldn't think twice about putting Maharajs Saroop into their rucksacks – and went of to jungle and into wars. " During british raj, SGGS was transported in a separate boxcar. "One thing that did come to mind was how Sikhs of the past wouldn't think twice about putting Maharajs Saroop into their rucksacks – and went of to jungle and into wars. " Could you please provide evidence of this? I still don't believe that Sikhs in the past disrespected Guru ji to such an extent. Keep in mind that during and after Raja Ranjit Singh's raj Sikhi was on decline, So I would appreciate some evidence from before this time period. As the Guru would sleep on a level lower than SGGS I don't believe he would countenance such behaviour. ALSO, let's not forget that Maharaj is alive, he is a roop of Waheguru himself (not saying that you're insinuating otherwise). It is shabd that is Guru, BUT Gurus in the past had satkaar done of them, and some ways of doing this satkar was through satkar of their body. As Guru Granth Sahib ji has Gurbani within, the body itself (binding, paper etc) becomes more than the mere sum of its parts. To call it merely paper at this point is disrespectful.
  17. This is an interesting thread. Are we really treating Maharaj's saroop with more satkaar than in the past? I'm not referring to Maharaja Ranjit Singhs time or later, as sikhi was on decline then. But before his time, is there any evidence of us treating Bani with more respect (using our own mind made methods)?

    Suicide

know where you're comign from. Go to gurdwara regularaly and focus on naam/bani. thoes people at the gurdwara are your sangat, even if you don't know their name. being arond them will help. suicide throws one into chaurassi lakh jooon, so is ultimately more painful than dealing with depression. sometimes, depression can only be solved by meditation, not thereapy. this is b/c the reason for depression continuing is our separation from god. god gives dukh to bring us on teh path.
  19. The Guru took off his shoes when leaving the house the sikhs had taken shelter in and used as a fort against the treachorous Moguls. He took off his shoes so he would not do beadbi of any shaheed singh's kesh.
  20. Actually Kam, the incident with BAba Harnaam Singh ji is true. He normally did chandi di vaar in the morning, but one day decided to test the path. some shaheed singhs gave him darshan and told him that the bani must be finished before night. if recitation continues at night then he must continually recite it all night. this is written in se kineheya, the biography of baba ji written by sant seva singh ji, his student. there are no rituals, but for some banis there are rules, rahit. don't need jyot for any normal day to day recitation. jyot is used in chalisa sometimes as it helps with concentration for people who's focus is not that strong. ghee jyot, not candle.
  21. The Dalai Lama's interfaith advococy and promotion of non-violence has earned his movement a place in the heart of many people. In other words, he marketed his movement well. Sikhs on the other hand, SOME have unfortunately thrown sikh principles out the window and been willing to advocate the promotion of hatred against all hindus, and in some cases even mass killings Most sikhs, easily the majority do not support such extremism. But this kind of extremism hurts us more than it helps. Not to mention all the illliterate gangsta types who scream out slogans but don't live up to the khalsa jeevan, talk about khalistan but still swear a blue streak... Buddhist monks seem so serene, which attracts people.

oh, one more thing that i use. I take a 300 mg magnesium supplement an hour before bed. it's a natural way to relax. However, do not take too much, and remember to balace it out with calcium.
  23. always bring a payta (offering) to the guru. It's a mark of devotion and respect. It doesn't have to be $. The golak is just put out there up front b/c (I think) o/w many people would not donate money and the gurdwaras need that $ to run. Their expenses are quite high.

if you're gong nuts wiht stress, my advice: identify the problem make a simple plan to deal wiht it. doesn't have to be perfect. you can take action on incomplete plan and come back later to change/completee thngs break actions down into small parts take action on first part also, go exercise. it helps a lot to clear the head. listen to simran/kirtan etc after exercise, exercise calms your body, helps your mind focus on shabad without your mind running around so much.
