  1. I recently read a debate regarding the so-called status of Bhagat Ravidass as the Guru of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. This is sheer fallacy in light of certain facts which I have incorporated into this article. http://tisarpanth.blogspot.co.nz/2014/09/the-elephant-in-room-i.html?view=magazine I don't believe that the Bhagats actually met the Gurus, or all of the Bhagats met the Gurus. I base my assertion on the fact that no substantive chronology of any Bhagat can be established. Other than that, each to his own but Sikhs would do well to remember that the claim, 'all the writings of the Bhagats are in the AGGS,' is extremely exacerbated. There are certain hymns of Bhagat Ravidass, seeing the debate, which are not housed in the AGGS due to their pantheistic content.
  2. My father-in-law passed in a tragic accident involving an 18-wheeler. He was dropping passenger(s) off at Newark airport when he slid on black ice from a previous sleet/snow storm. After the car came to a stop, my father in law checked on the passengers to make sure everyone was okay. After that he proceeded to exit the vehicle to put proper flags, caution lights, etc. out to warn any oncoming traffic. Keep in mind he lost control on an exit ramp leading to the airport. Within minutes, an 18-wheeler came barreling up and around the ramp. Losing control because of speed and other unknown reasons, the truck spun out of control. After the sheriffs arrived to the scene and began to check on everyone involved in the accident, they realized the driver (my father in law) was missing. An officer then went to investigate the surroundings in search of my Parminder. A bit later, he was discovered under the truck. He was covered in snow. After removing the snow, it was obvious he passed of blunt force trauma to the head, neck and body. He was pronounced dead at the scene. My father in law loved to give. He would give you the turban off of his head, the shirt off of his back or the very last dollar in his pocket. He was very involved in the Sikh community here in NYC and loved to make a difference. He loved everyone he met and never stopped laughing. He helped anyone and everyone he possibly could. Why we are making 12th guru ? Are Sikh lost trust in them> Why Newly Singh don't wanna live in Punjab ? Why they always go out of india to settle ? What makes singh to cut their hairs ? Are Sikh girl ashame of Singh's Appearance ?
  4. WJKK WJKF, I am 14 years old, trying to become a real Sikh. I just wanted to know how other Gursikhs spend their day on Sikhi, such as the time they wake up and the banis they do and when they sleep and everything that happens in your day. I just wanted to see if I can model it. Please also provide the times, so that I know how much time it takes for each part of the schedule. Bul Chuk Maaf Kareo. Thank you very much.
  5. I was just wondering, do any of you have any idea when your family first became Sikhs? Mine became Sikhs at the time of the 7th guru. Guru Har Rai Sahib came to my pind. He stopped off with an army before heading off to Kartarpur Sahib. I don't know how accurate this story is but I was told my some old people, they said that the Guru came to the pind and wanted to stay there. Some villagers refused and turned them away. Then some villagers went after the Guru and asked them to come back. Then the Guru is said "those who came back will stay and the ones who didn't will go away from this pind". Don't know if this story is true, but its the one I was told. So I was just wondering if anyone else knew how their family became Sikh.
  6. Hello, I wanted to ask how exactly does Nitnem change you? I used to feel something when I did paht, but now I don't feel like I have that experience anymore, I'm feeling discouraged.
  7. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Kee Fateh, Sorry for any of my mistakes. I am only 14 years old and I hear a lot about how simran is important and it helps us attain waheguru. But I don't know how to do it. Whenever I hear a katha, they always explain why we should do it, not how ot do it. Please tell me what I need to do. I tried listening many times to Bhai Harjinder Singh Ji Sri Nagar Wale's Waheguru jaap kirtan because I like it but the problem is that after doing it, I don't feel anything. I don't even get that feeling like I did something. Please help me. Thank you very much.
  8. WJKK WJKF, I want to become a granthi and serve my guru but I don't know how to. I don't read fluent gurmukhi, sometimes skip nitnem, and don't know a lot of gurbani. I live in US and don't have kesh. I don't know kirtan. I don't go to any gurudwara Punjabi school and I cant go. What can I do to become one. Please help me. I really need it.
  9. A lot of Sikh parents rather then take accountability and say their child messed up will rather play victim and blame the friends To many Sikhs play the victim card rather then take accountability for different situations in their life sikhi teaches people to be mentally strong but so many Sikhs choose to be mentally weak their are Sikhs who play the victim card and choose to be a product of their environment their are Sikhs who are mentally strong and are accountable and have their environment be a by product of them sikhi teaches accountability Punjabi culture teaches to feel like a victim for example Punjab drug problem I believe drugs should be legal and a citizen has the right to choose what they want to do with their bodies cause drugs are available does not mean everyone is just going to start doing drugs alcohol is available on street corners in the west yet many Sikhs Mormons and others still don't drink cause they choose not to drink if heroin became legal would you run out and by and inject heroin If some Sikhs started being accountable they would wake up and realise that this anti Sikh pro Punjabi culture of spoiling boys and neglecting girls is a root cause to so many problems In Punjab ppl are driven more by Punjabi culture which is ego materialism and status over sikhi teachings of building strong character integrity and morals which leads to many Punjabis saying hey my son doesn't have to work look at me im so rich my son doesn't need to work I got him a bike and throw weddings they can't afford and drive themselves into debt to boost their ego and higher biharis to work rather then let their children work to boost their ego most spoiled children with no responsibilities do screw up their lives In a democracy its up to the people to make it work otherwise they shall lose it like Thomas Jefferson said Sikhs vote in corrupt po0liticians so Sikhs shouldn't be playing the victim card when it comes to corrupt govts like badal in a free market system its up to individuals to create businesses and jobs Punjab is the largest consumer state in india driven by materialism an ego yet fall behind when it comes to starting businesses and producing productws out side of farming also Punjab was the richest state in india for so many decades while other states struggled with massive poverty In other states like Gujarat the youth are getting educated and starting businesses and creating jobs and growing the economy while in Punjab Sikhs play victim spoil their kids an blame others for their spoiled childs drug addiction an failure in school green revolution made Punjab the richest state in india and now Punjab is falling behind as poorer states catch up and are starting to surpass punjab while Punjab is becoming drug addicted
  10. I was asking this question because I heard of a great sant named Bhai Manj who after becoming a Sikh suffered through a lot of problems, but still kept his Sikhi as part of him, Guru Arjun Dev Ji warned Bhai Manj of following this path but he still followed the Guru. Next Bhai Manj falls into a pit, and his(Guru Arjun Dev Ji) Hukam was that the wood not fall, Bhai Manj kept the wood high, and when he was rescued Guru Arjun Dev Ji asked what has being Sikh given you and Bhai Manj replied that he had received the gift of NAAM through the GURU. So this Sakhi goes to prove something very important that modern Sikhs are diluted to hear"All religions aren't equal" if you have something to add, please do.
  11. Listening to the path is good. If you read it, I feel it is the best to read it in Gurmukhi. If you dont know Gurmukhi, you may start learning it and in the meantime (whatever time it takes- months, years) listen to the path. The most important thing is patience (hukam rjai chalna). Kam,Krodh etc are said to be mahabali (extremely strong) in Gurbani, so It will take time before you can win them over and it takes even more time to attain real happiness. But serving the Guru and reading/listening bani is happiness in itself! andd atleast the things wont get worse if you are doing some effort. Bhagat Farid hung himself upside-down in a well for 12 years before he could attain God! Not that we need such penance, but my point is that it is a difficult path and we need to have patience. Naam,Seva and accepting God's sweet will (Bhana) will make it easy and I am sure it is worth it! On a personal note - I also struggle to wake up at Amritvela, succumb to Kaam, krodh some times and get frustrated, may the sangat do Ardaas for us and hopefully we will see through our journey to destination some day!

Would a pro Sikh party being democratically elected work in Punjab or is Khalistan a must

  16. This is a question for all the sikhs including myself are we really sikhs or just known to be sikhs. How is our relation going on with god? Do we meditate on GOD? OR WE are stuck in getting a different nation? Does every sikh understands Gurbani? Why do sikhs don't respect other religions? Whereas GURU sahib respected every religion. And What is the difference between sikh(us) and "SIKH" in this shabad- ਮਃ ੪ ॥ One who calls himself a Sikh of the Guru the True Guru shall rise in the early morning hours and meditate on the Lord's Name. Upon arising early in the morning, he is to bathe, and cleanse himself in the pool of nectar. Following the Instructions of the Guru, he is to chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. 17. Rajbir Singh, 10th class student at Guru Hargobind Public School was sent to the Principal's office after he greeted his teacher, Ravroop Singh, with Waheguru ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh. Principal, Palwinderpal Singh beat him up with sticks and broke his hand and fingers. Rajbir Singh told that the previous principal never had any issues with students greeting teachers with Fateh, but the new principal wanted students to say "Good Morning" instead of Fateh.
  18. My question is little bit inadequate, I don't have the tendency to ask such a big question. Shouldn't there be only one place to take amrit ?, I mean only one group of Panj Pyaare as our GURU not anyone from the crowd. But only five Brahmgyani's from the whole world should have the right to do amrit ceremony. As we see at Kalgidhar Patshah's time only Five did the ceremony for thousands. And they were real sikhs. Not just from outside, I mean they were enlightened. What are your views?

  23. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh People may ask why we Sikhs are forbidden from performing the 4 Bajjar Kurehits, and why we must not associate with the 5 Mel. An article has now been uploaded at the following link explaining why we are not allowed to partake in such activities, with quotes from Sri Sarbloh Granth Sahib Ji and Sri Gurpartap Suraj Parkash Granth: http://budhadal.org/site/faq/ Below is an article for newcomers to Sikhi to read, where they can know the difference between a "Sikh" and a "Khalsa", and why Sikhs wear a turban, with significance from other world religions: http://budhadal.org/site/sikh/ Saad Sangat Ji, still more to come yet! Check out a daily Hukamnama from all 3 Granths here: http://budhadal.org/site/hukamnama/ More articles will be uploaded for the Basics of our Dharam. Watch this space! Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh!

    Jhoot Help

Hello My brother is a amritdhari and so is my sister but she is married and lives elsewhere, I have a question about Jhoot, we are careful as we have separate cookery for meat etc, but he has one plate and bowl cutlery for himself that no one uses apart from him , the other day we ordered a pizza from a takeaway and I Picked up a slice first, he then said to me its jhoot now I dont want it and another time we had pizza and he put in everyones slices for them and then when I went to get one myself he said its jhoota again now, I was like how I have only touched the one slice I am picking up how does that make the rest of the box jhoota as well, we had a arguemnet and he said he is just following rehat marayda and is trying to be strict in his jeevan,. Do other people hold similar views on Jhoot or is it just my brother, he says sucham is very important, Thanks for reading
  25. While we are busy debating and dissing each other over trivial issues, our enemies are yet at it again desecrating our religious symbols and killing our people. I said this months back and I repeat, when Sikhs are about to be killed by dushts they are not asked whether they eat meat, believe in Kes or Keski as Kakkar... They are killed because they are SIKHS. Then why can't we unite as Sikhs instead of dividing ourselves? Now this might be a political ploy too, remember it is during the election period where parties can do anything to malign the other side.
