Background to what the talk will be on

... In recent years Sikhs have encountered various challenges to their Identity at different levels. Sept. 11 and the war in Afghanistan led to the awareness of Sikhs of a forgotten community of the Afghani Sikhs. For the rest of the world, Sept 11 caused people to examine who the Sikhs are and where they come from. More recently the Turban has been banned in France and in the UK the controversial play "Behzti" has invoked anger and mixed messages about how Sikhs are portrayed in the media. With all these issues what has emerged is that Sikhs have become visibly invisible and these problems have made Sikhs re-examine their relationship with the Media. UNITED SIKHS, which has been in the forefront of global Sikh ID issues, will present a talk on its experience in dealing with these and other issues that Sikhs face in the Modern world.
