Misconception about Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji

Recommended Posts

Once listening to katha of shaheedi of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, I came across a misconception about Guru Ji. This story is being preached by most of the dhaddis, and parcharaks everyday. The kathakaar said that Bhai Jaita Ji could only pick up Guru Ji’s head by placing it with his father’s head first. In other words, Bhai Jaita Ji chopped off his father’s head, switched it with Guru Ji’s head and then went to Anandpur Sahib. This is well written in Sooraj Parkash and Panth Parkash.

Both granths are respected in the Panth but everyone knows that these two granths are not 100% correct. In fact, no puratan text is 100% accurate. The only way we can disapprove a story is by comparing it with Gurmat and our history of shaheeds. Gursikhs have always fought for truth and righteousness. They never cheated and were beyond any mischievous actions. The story is not only a false account of history but a dark spot on the sacrifice of Bhai Jait Mall Ji. If I assume he cut off his father’s head then he must’ve done it at a secret place. Then leaving the body behind and taking the head to be switched. But it is a known fact that the shaheedi took place in the public so there was no way Bhai Jaita Ji could do such thing behind a wall. Was there no trace of blood when he was taking the head? No one in the public notice? If no, then with such cleverness he could’ve picked up Guru Ji’s head. What happened to the body? Was it discovered later? Did muslims not notice that the head was different? Bhai Jaita Ji could have done ardaas to Guru Ji to bless him with courage to pick up the head without chopping off anyone’s head.

Bhai Jaita Ji had to pick up the head of Guru Ji which was a very difficult task but picking up the body was even more difficult task. Bhai Lakhee Shah did this seva but he didn’t switch it with his father’s body? There are many more holes in the story but I don’t want to make it a long post.

The truth is that Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji took five Gursikhs with Him to Delhi. Father of Bhai Jaita Ji is nowhere mentioned because he never accompanied Guru Ji. Three Gursikhs became Shaheed and two were given the responsibility of taking the head back to Anandpur Sahib. This fact is well supported by Taksal and books written by Missionary College. Guru Ji had already told Bhai Jaita Ji to stay alarmed. Guru Ji said “at the time of my shaheedi, wind will blow so fast and the sky will be filled with dust. No one will be able to see anything. You stand spreading your cloth and my head will come right into it. Then go back to Anandpur Sahib. No one will be able to see you.” Bhai Jaita Ji did as instructed. Bhai Lakhee Shah picked up the body and no one was able to catch him.

Gursikhs have no fear of anyone. They sacrifice for truth and never cheat. They never lose faith in Guru Ji. I had a discussion on this with a respected “Sant” but he was unable to prove his point. All he could say was he had read the story in the granths, then chelay started yelling and told me to leave. One thing people should know that Sooraj Parkash was written from three old texts including Prem Sumarag. No actual research was done by Bhai Santokh Singh Ji. Bhai Veer Singh Ji has written “Sooraj Parkash Nirnay” (not sure if the name is correct) in which he has pointed out which sakhis are correct and which are not. We shouldn’t take everything to be 100% correct. We should do vichaar by keeping Sikhi and history in mind. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

I heard that bhai jaita ji burnt his own house down to cremate the body of guru ji so it wouldnt seem suspicious and then he took the head to guru gobind rai

    • Umm, that's totally irrational, bro. There are plenty of prakash-dara Singhs in Punjab (less than we'd like, but still plenty). No one cares that you are sabat soorat. It isn't 1986. You can walk around in chola, kurta-pajama, or jeans. Whatever. If you want the look @dallysingh101 is referring to, just go into a cheap clothing shop (not a Western-style mall) and buy some shirts for 250 rupees or a track suit for 2000 rupees. You'll get the cheap stuff made in some sweatshop in Bombay.
    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
