Amritsar, June 8

The Amritsar Police today arrested senior Dal Khalsa leaders, including Mr Kanwarpal Singh Bittu and Mr Sarbjit Singh Ghuman , national general secretary and district president, respectively, for organising a march carrying saffron flags and provocative placards with pictures of Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and damaging Akal Takht on the eve of Operation Bluestar anniversary.

The police have also registered a case against Mr Simranjit Singh Mann, President, Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), Khalistan ideologue and President, Khalsa Raj Party, Dr Jagjit Singh Chohan, and 10 others for raising the demand of Khalistan in front of Akal Takht to mark the ‘genocide day’ on June 6.

According to Mr R.P.S. Brar, district police chief, the kotwali police had registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code against Mr Mann for demanding creation of a buffer state of Khalistan between India and Pakistan. Dr Chohan was booked for his confession that he was in touch with ‘India’s most wanted’ militants of Pakistan and distribution of pamphlets in the Akal Takht complex demanding the creation of a separate state for Sikhs.

A case under Sections 124 A , 153 A &B have also been registered against Mr Harcharan Singh Dhami , Mr Satnam Singh Paunta Sahib (hijacker of an Indian Airlines plane), Mr Satwinder Singh Kot Khalsa and others in the Civil Lines Police Station.

Earlier, taking serious notice of ‘provocative sloganeering’, ‘brandishing naked swords’ and ‘hooliganism’ by Mr Simranjit Singh Mann with his supporters in the Golden Temple on June 6 the SGPC chief took up the matter with the President, Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Home Minister Shivraj Patil besides the Chief Justice of India for taking legal action against him (Mr Mann).

Now Sikh's can't even protest peacefully about genocide and raising demands for self determination in their own home state without being arrested and charged.

Pathetic Indian's urghhhhhhh ......So much for freedom of speech and the idea of India being a civilised free nation.

I wonder if they charge Muslim Kashmiri Leaders when they do the same????? grin.gif
