Sports vs Bhangra

Well, the main thing guru sahib says about playing sports or dancing or anything else is that if your mind is attuned on akaal purkh constantly, even those activities are fruitful. But, alot of the times the mind tends to do these activities through attachment and ego.

Sports

If you like basketball, for example, you play because either you want to do it for competition, or enjoyment, you may also do it for exercise, but there are other exercises that you might not enjoy or compete in but are only for staying healthy like jogging, where your mind is focused just on your path, and nothing else, its an inner battle that you must fight, like how long you can run, so again we go back to the concept of fighting the mind :e:

Bhangra

Bhangra is associated with music, and we've all gone through the discussions of what music can do to one's mind. Music could be keertan, where one sings of Vaheguru's praises, which brings you in bliss, and higher on the level of spirituality and another type of music is worldly music, where you sing about worldly things, and relationships. Now, we all know bhangra and keertan don't go together, hence the music played during bhangra is NOT oriented around akaal purkh, therefore its false to even listen or dance to such tunes.

Khalsa Fauji I'd be careful of what you say.  Doing Simran and dancing are totally opposites.  Just because you don't understand Simran and the power that it creates doesn't give you the right to talk garbage.  Try doing some Simran, then talk.

Gurfateh!!

Veer Ji, i wasnt talking garbage, i was just giving a moorakh view on that method of simran and how easy it is to use Gurbani Tukhs against many practices.

And i shall be trying to do simran, have been trying for many years and will keep trying.Doing simran is unique and individual to every being. I would not say there is any wrong or right way. Thanx for the advice though :TH:

Try to see if u get something out of it... Please take care

satnaam sada satnaam ji

dandauth bandana bhenjee

..answers in CAPS:

I have a very lame question here. Isnt it very contradicting for a Sikh to

dance... one who wants to obtain a high level of spirituality?

U see, 'mann' is still not connected to 'dil'.

GOD IS YOUR INNER CHILD.  WHAT QUALITIES DOES A CHILD HAVE?  THEY LOOK AT

EVERYTHING WITH AWE AND WONDER...NOT BORED OF LIFE LIKE ADULTS.  THEY RUN

TO MEET THEIR PARENTS WITH OPEN ARMS AND FULL OF LOVE, UNLIKE ADULTS WHO

RESENT THEIR PARENTS.  THEY LOVE ANIMALS AND NATURE AND OTHER BABIES AND

CHILDREN, UNLIKE ADULTS WHO CAN BE CRUEL TO OTHERS, AND DISCRIMINATE

BETWEEN GENDERS , RELIGIONS, COLOURS.  TELL A KID TO TOUCH ELDERS FEET,

THEY HAVE NO RESISTANCE.  UNLIKE AN ADULT WHO HAS TO THINK OF WHAT PEOPLE

WILL SAY.    AND FINALLY PUT MUSIC ON AND THE CHILD DANCES WITH JOY, OUT OF

LOVE AND HAPPINESS.  PUT MUSIC ON FOR AN ADULT AND THEY WANT TO DANCE, BUT

THEIR WRONG INTERPRETATION OF RELGION SAYS NO ITS WRONG.

A CHILD IS CLOSE TO GOD BECAUSE A CHILD LIVES OUT THEIR HEART.  BUT AS

THEY GROW UP AND ARE TAUGHT THE LOGIC OF RELGION AND SOCIETY, THEN LOGIC

OVERRULES THE HEART.  AND EVENTUALLY THEY DESTROY THE INNER CHILD AND LIVE

A MISERABLE, DEPRESSED EXISTANCE.....AND ONTOP OF THAT THE RELIGION THEY

TURN TO FOR HELP IMPOSES MORE LOGIC  WHICH KILLS THE INNER CHILD FOR GOOD.

IN BANI BABA NANAK JI SAYS 'NACHAN KUDAN MAN KA CHAO'...MEANING THAT

DANINCG AND JUMPING ARE JUST DESIRES OF THE MIND.  AND THIS LINE IS QUOTED

BY RELGIOUS HARDCORE.  YES BABA NANAK JI SAAW A GROUP OF DANCERS AND THEY

WERE MAKING FOOLS OUT OF THEMSELVES TO FILL THEIR BELLY.  THERE WAS NO

SPIRITUAL MERITS IN WHAT THEY WERE DOINGS.  AND YES, YOU CAN RELATE THAT

TO THE DANCING AND JUMPING OF PEOPLE WHO GO TO PARTIES TO GET DRUNK, TO

FLIRT , TO SHOW OFF ETC.    BUT THERE IS A ANOTHER SIDE TO DANCING , WHEN

YOU ARE LIKE THE CHILD IN LOVE WITH GOD, AND IN THAT LOVE YOU SING, YOU

WRITE POETRYR (GURBANI IS LOVE POEMS TO GOD), AND YOU DANCE ...IT COMES IN

BANI, ALTHOUGH RELGIOUS HARDCORE FORGET TO MENTION THIS ....GURU AMAR DAS

JI SAYS 'GURMUKH NACHAY GURMUKH HASAY' ..THE GURMUKH DANCES AND THE GURMUKH

LAUGHS.  THIS LAUGHING AND DANCING IS EXPRESSION OF PURE GOD FILLING THEIR

HEART WITH HAPPINESS.

THE PATH TO GOD, IS THE PATH TO YOUR OWN HEART, THE SOURCE OF BLISS.

RELIGIOUS PEOPLE SHOULD HAVE THE REDDEST, BRIGHTEST FACES, THE HEARTIESTS

LAUGHS,  OPEN HEARTS, ARMS OUT WIDE TO HUG EACH OTHER, TO HUG THE WHOLE

WORLD, AND DANCING INTHE LOVE OF THE LORD.  INSTEAD THE ONES WHO HAVE NOT

BECOME GURMUKH, TAKE A FEW ONE SIDED QUOTES FROM GURBANI AND BRAINWASH

YOUNG PEOPLE LIKE YOURSELF.  YOU ARE ALREADY MORE IN TUNE WITH YOUR OWN

HEART THAN A RELGIOUS PERSON WHO HAS KILLED THEIR HEART AND IS IN THE

PROCESS OF KILLING OTHERS HEARTS..STARTING WITH TRYING TO CONTROL AND JUDGE

THEIR OWN FAMILIES, THEN CRITICISING AND LOATHIGN THEIR GURDWARA COMMUNITY,

THEIR WHOLE LIFE IS HELL, THEY HAV NO PEACE OR HAPPINESS IN ALL THE

RELGIOUS THINGS THEY DO.  THEY GET A TEMPORARY BUZZ FROM DOING SANGAT FOR A

FEW HRS AND DOING KIRTAN, BUT THE REST OF THEIR LIFE IS FULL OF NEGATIVITY.

WATCH OUT FOR PEOPLE LIKE THAT.  DONT FOLLOW ANYONE, NO MATTER HOW GOOD

THEY LOOK IF YOU SEE THEY DONT HAVE LOVE IN THEIR HEART FOR THE WHOLE

WORLD, AND ESPECIALLY THEIR ENEMIES.
