In Paragraph # 6 of this news, Dr Darshan Singh Bains has been mentioned. Is this Dr Darshan Singh of Toronto Akhand Kirtani Jatha? If yes, then congratulations to Dr. Sahib. It is a matter of happiness and pride for all of us, if this is true.

Panel to make rules on jathedars

Varinder Walia

Tribune News Service

Amritsar, October 21

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has constituted a 21-member Religious Advisory Board (RAB), which would frame rules for the appointment and removal of Sikh high priests. The board would also scrutinise the complaints being received by Akal Takht before they are taken up by the Sikh clergy.

Though the SGPC has announced that Akal Takht is competent to take suo motu notice of any matter concerning the Sikh Panth, some intellectuals feel that this is an attempt to dilute the authority of the Sikh clergy.

Mr Calcutta, however, claimed that the RAB had been constituted on the directives of the Akal Takht Jathedar and the decision was taken unanimously at a Dharm Parchar Committee (DPC) meeting held at Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib recently.

However, Sikh intellectual Gurcharanjit Singh Lamba said the rules for the appointment and removal of jathedars had already been framed by the seven-member Justice K.S. Tiwana Committee during the stint of Mr Kirpal Singh Badungar. While the new board had certain controversial members, the Justice Tiwana committee comprised of only legal experts. Mr Lamba demanded that the SGPC should first clarify what had happened to the recommendations of the Tiwana committee.

Without mentioning the controversy over the Dasa

m Granth or other religious matters, Mr Calcutta said the RAB would take up all pending issues.

The members of the board are Bhai Jasbir Singh Khalsa Khannewale, Bhai Joginder Singh Talwara of the Akhand Kirtani Jatha, Mr Kanwarpal Singh, a leader of Dal Khalsa, Dr Gurbax Singh (USA), Dr Darshan Singh Bains, Mr Sukhdev Singh Bhaur, Mr Manjit Singh Calcutta, Dr Kharak Singh, Principal Ram Singh, Dr Santokh Singh Bhopal, Mr Kewal Singh Mumbai, Jathedar Inderpal Singh Khalsa, Mr Khajan Singh Calcutta, Dr Bikram Singh (Patiala), Baba Surajpal Singh, Mr Bhag Singh Ankhi, Mr Gurbax Singh of the UK, Dr Kuldip Singh Tulida (USA), Dr Balkar Singh and Dr Inderjit Kaur (wife of Bhai Harbhajan Singh Yogi).

Mr Calcutta said the committee would be competent to initiate talks with other Panthic organisations to resolve various Panthic matters. It would send its recommendations to the DPC and the SGPC.

He said the RAB could take up the case of sending a rare bir of Guru Granth Sahib to foreign country allegedly at the behest of Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti, Jathedar, Akal Takht. He clarified that Mr Prithipal Singh Sandhu, a close relative of Jathedar Vedanti, was no more a personal assistant to him and had been assisting him only in his personal capacity.

Come on singh, It doesn't matter if he's akj or taksal, or whatever. I don't mean to hate but u're congratulating him only if he's from AKJ???? :) That's not right.

I did not write the article or the comments that you have mentioned. But I believe that Singhs in AKJ don't consider themselves as different from Sikhi or Khalsa Panth. And even for me if I post something with AKJ written before it, I don't feel that it is different from Sikhi in general or Khalsa Panth. Akhand Kirtanee Jatha is just a name for a group of chardee kala valay amritdharees who do kirtan, not an outside group from Sikhism.

Why can't the person specify it? Maybe the person is from Toronto and associated with the akhand keertanee jatha and knows a Dr. Darshan Singh with the Jatha and wants to know if it's him. What's the big deal about? He probably knows the singh, might have done sangat with him and so is congratulating him and others who do sangat with him. What's wrong with that? It's not like he put anyone else down.

Japman, forget about it. He probably mentioned it because Bhai Darshan Singh Jee is well known in the toronto area. He is very well respected, he is especially respected in the Jatha. I think he is like one of the leaders(?). So obviously the Jatha will be proud of him. There is nothing wrong with it.

    • Definitely the Guru Sahibs would be a heavier Scriptures to handle. Dasam Granth is more towards Bir Rass, Guru Gobind Singh showed his Greatness (of course, they would never say this) by separating his own Baania.  And the BIGGEST test of all?? Do we try and read Dasam Granth, Understand n show respect like we do to SGGS? Or... Do we QUESTION it? Guru Gobind Singh Ji is testing us.
    • My wife will be going for an MRI scan next week but her Kara won’t physically come off.  Is there any way the mri scan can be done with the Kara still on?  The alternative is we will have to try to saw it off before the scan.
    • was researching this and came back to this thread. Also found an older thread:
    • Net pay after taxes. If you don't agree, think about this: If you were a trader and started off in China with silk that cost 100 rupees and came to India, and you had to pay total 800 rupees taxes at every small kingdom along the way, and then sold your goods for 1000 rupees, you'd have 100 rupees left, right? If your daswandh is on the gross, that's 100 rupees, meaning you have nothing left. Obviously, you owe only 10% of 100, not 10% of 1000. No, it's 10% before bills and other expenses. These expenses are not your expenses to earn money. They are consumption. If you are a business owner, you take out all expenses, including rent, shop electricity, cost of goods sold, advertising, and government taxes. Whatever is left is your profit and you owe 10% of that.  If you are an employee, you are also entitled to deduct the cost of earning money. That would be government taxes. Everything else is consumption.
    • No, bro, it's simply not true that no one talks about Simran. Where did you hear that? Swingdon? The entire Sikh world talks about doing Simran, whether it's Maskeen ji, Giani Pinderpal Singh, Giani Kulwant Singh Jawaddi, or Sants. So what are you talking about? Agreed. Agreed. Well, if every bani were exactly the same, then why would Guru ji even write anything after writing Japji Sahib? We should all enjoy all the banis. No, Gurbani tells you to do Simran, but it's not just "the manual". Gurbani itself also has cleansing powers. I'm not saying not to do Simran. Do it. But Gurbani is not merely "the manual". Reading and singing Gurbani is spiritually helpful: ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਭਾਖਿਆ ॥  ਗਾਵਹੁ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਪੜਹੁ ਨਿਤ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੈ ਤੂ ਰਾਖਿਆ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ The Lord's Bani and the words are the best utterances. Ever sing hear and recite them, O brother and the Perfect Guru shall save thee. Pause. p611 Here Guru ji shows the importance of both Bani and Naam: ਆਇਓ ਸੁਨਨ ਪੜਨ ਕਉ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਲਗਹਿ ਅਨ ਲਾਲਚਿ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਰਾਣੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ The mortal has come to hear and utter Bani. Forgetting the Name thou attached thyself to other desires. Vain is thy life, O mortal. Pause. p1219 Are there any house manuals that say to read and sing the house manual?
