PRESS RELEASE

Tuesday 15 August 2006

YOUNG SIKHS LEAD PROTEST TO DEMAND FREEDOM AND SIKH INDEPENDENCE

For the last three years young Sikhs have been turning up and playing a greater role in the annual June remembrance rally and march in central London, organising a series of candle lit vigils in November and turning up for Sikh lobbies of Parliament to make the Sikh message for justice and freedom more effective.

Young Sikhs supported by organisations such as the Sikh Federation (UK) have gradually been trying to change the focus and increase the professionalism of the June event. The activism of young Sikhs has sent an important message to the Indian authorities and Sikhs across the world about the pro-active stance of Sikh youngsters in the UK and that they will never forget 1984.

Young Sikhs in the UK have also given new life to the Sikh independence struggle and the hard work of the last few years has demonstrated that the future campaign for Sikh independence will be in safe hands.

Smaller annual protests in London are also organised outside the Indian High Commission in London on 15 August and 26 January, to coincide with Indian Independence and India's Republic Day respectively. This year young Sikhs were encouraged to get more actively involved in providing a new impetus to the 15 August protest as they are directly linked to the issue of freedom for the Sikhs and how the Indian State has totally failed the Sikhs.

For the protest taking place on Tuesday 15 August young Sikhs made a bigger impact by introducing new aspects to the protest. The police were persuaded to allow the protest by Sikh youngsters to be directly outside the Indian High Commission, which proved to be a positive step. Although the Sikh protest was peaceful there is little doubt the Indian authorities will be furious with the Metropolitan Police and the UK Government as this resulted in a good visible impact. It is certain that many more young Sikhs will turn up next year.

For the first time ever the Hindu Human Rights Group also planned a 'protest' which they advertised on their web site as taking place between 2-5pm. It was clear from the handful of Hindus that turned up, that this protest was organised by the Hindu right wing and was an attempt to disrupt minority communities, such as the Sikhs and Kashmiris who are campaigning for their freedom. Around a dozen young Sikhs from the South of England watched on to see a small fearful and silent group of young right wing Hindus reveal placards with some strange slogans: 'Hindus second class citizens in our own country', 'Indian Government is anti-Hindu' and 'Congress Government stop ant-Hindu policies'.

On 15 August 1947 India's independence was achieved, but only as a direct result of enormous Sikh sacrifices

Despite being less than 2% of the population

• Over 70% of those martyred were Sikhs;

• Over 80% of those exiled and imprisoned were Sikhs; and

• Over 70% of those sent to the gallows were Sikhs.

The brave and proud Sikhs were the ones that sacrificed their lives to deliver Indian independence

The British have always valued the loyalty of the Sikhs and in May 1947 an opportunity was offered by the UK Government for the Sikhs to establish an independent Sikh State.

But the short-sighted Sikh leadership at that time decided to stick with India - they were made certain promises, but were deceived.

The Indian leadership totally betrayed the Sikhs.

When the goal for complete independence was first set the Indian leadership, including the likes of Mahatma Gandhi, said:

"After India achieves political freedom no constitution shall be framed by the majority community unless it is freely acceptable to the Sikhs"

The Indians reneged on this promise and that is why the Sikhs refused to sign the constitution following Indian independence.

The Indian authorities have systematically discriminated against the Sikhs and panjab since 1947.

They have subverted or suppressed all legitimate political demands for greater autonomy.

In the last 30 years the Indian authorities have unleashed a rein of terror through gross violation of human rights of Sikhs - torture, fake encounters, disappearances, extra-judicial killings - in an attempt to extinguish the calls for freedom and Sikh independence.

In June 1984 the Indian army attacked the golden temple complex and 125 other Sikh Gurdwaras in Panjab and massacred tens of thousands of innocent Sikh pilgrims.

This laid the foundation stone for an independent Sikh state – Khalistan.

In November 1984 tens of thousands of innocent Sikhs were massacred in Delhi and over 130 cities throughout India by well-orchestrated mobs under the direct supervision of senior Indian politicians and officials.

Over 250,000 Sikhs have been murdered and disappeared since 1984.

Many Sikh political prisoners still languish in Indian jails without charge or trial.

The Indian State has totally failed the Sikhs.

The world must stand up to Indian state terrorism.

State sponsored terrorism is the true face of Indian democracy.

An independent Sikh state - Khalistan is the only solution.

Khalistan Zindabad

Bole So Nihal, Sat Sri Akal

Leaflet distributed on 15 August 2006 outside the Indian High Commission in London

INDEPENDENT INDIA IS A FAILURE FOR SIKHS

KHALISTAN IS THE ONLY SOLUTION

Today marks India’s Independence Day and prolongs the suffering of the Sikh Nation at the hands of the corrupt Indian authorities.

THE FACTS

• The Indian authorities have systematically discriminated against the Sikhs since 1947 and subverted or suppressed all legitimate political demands for greater autonomy.

• In the last 30 years the Indian authorities have unleashed a rein of terror through gross violation of human rights of Sikhs in an attempt to extinguish the calls for freedom and Sikh independence.

• In June 1984 the Indian army attacked the Golden Temple Complex and 125 other Sikh Gurdwaras in Panjab and massacred tens of thousands of innocent Sikh pilgrims. This laid the foundation stone for an independent Sikh state – KHALISTAN.

• In November 1984 tens of thousands of innocent Sikhs were massacred in Delhi and cities throughout India by well-orchestrated mobs under the direct supervision of senior Indian politicians and officials.

• Over 250,000 Sikhs have been murdered and disappeared since 1984.

• Many Sikh political prisoners still languish in Indian jails without charge or trial.

• In the last 25 years more Sikhs have fallen victim to the army and police each year than were killed during the entire seventeen-year dictatorship of Pinochet in Chile.

• Illegal detention and torture of Sikhs is common place and well documented by independent human rights organisations.

India not content with silencing the genuine voice of the Sikhs in the Indian sub-continent through gross human rights abuses have been using all means possible to try and stop political opposition from Sikhs living abroad.

The Sikh Nation urges the international community and the UK Government in particular to no longer stand by and allow India to deny Sikhs their right to self-determination. Foreign governments must speak out publicly to stop the genuine Sikh voice of freedom and independence from being silenced through widespread abuse of human rights.

The stability in the Indian sub-continent is a matter of concern to the entire world. The possibility of nuclear war in the region is a real possibility. This would have devastating implications for not only the Sikhs, but also the rest of the world.

An independent Sikh State of KHALISTAN is the only solution

• A nation where all its citizens would be safe and secure

• A nation without social division

• A nation with a strong dynamic and productive economy

• A nation where hard work is rewarded by rising living standards

• A nation investing in infrastructure and good public services

• A nation where education and health care are given priority

• A nation with real influence in the world

Make the world a safer place to live – support the Sikhs right to self-determination and our campaign to regain our lost sovereignty.

Pro-Khalistan Sikhs take Christian names to gain support

LONDON (ICNS) -- Sikh people who demonstrated in London demanding Khalistan, a separate Sikh homeland, also discussed atrocities against Christians in India in their attempts to garner support for their cause.

Some 150 Sikh people demonstrated before India House on Aug. 15 when India celebrated 60 Independence Day. The demonstrators held placards with slogans such as ‘India get out of Khalistan’ and ‘Khalistan is the only solution.’

Protestors distributed leaflets saying religious minorities are unsafe in the Hindu majority India. They demanded a separate homeland based in north western part of India, where Sikhs will be a majority.

A report on the protest program posted on the Sikh Sangat News site was eager to show that religious minorities were unsafe in India.

“The Indian government has murdered over 250,000 Sikhs since 1984,” accused the report. It said more than 300,000 Christians in Nagaland and over 90,000 Muslims in Kashmir were also killed.

Missionary Graham Staines was murdered along with his two sons, ages 8 and 10, by a mob of militant, fundamentalist Hindu nationalists who set fire to the jeep, surrounded it, and chanted “Victory to Hannuman,” a Hindu god, the site noted.

The persons who have murdered priests, raped nuns, and burned Christian churches have not been charged or tried. The murderers of 2,000 to 5,000 Muslims in Gujarat have never been brought to trial, it said in an attempt to garner larger support for its cause.

It said an Indian newspaper reported that the police were ordered not to get involved in that massacre, in a frightening parallel to the Delhi massacre of Sikhs in 1984.

It alleged Indian police of arresting and murdering human-rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra who exposed the torture, murder and mass burial of some 50,000 Sikhs. Police also killed Jathedar (Sikh priest) Gurdev Singh Kaunke. But people responsible for the murders were not booked.

“Is Jaswant Singh Khalra celebrating? Is Jathedar Kaunke celebrating? Is Graham Staines celebrating?” “How can a democracy celebrate the kind of violent repression that claimed their lives?” Self Determination was they key to basic human rights being ensured for Sikhs said Dr. G. S. Aulakh, who took a lead in the demonstration.

We should not focus on the hindu bit that just makes Sikhs look as bad as the Islamic nutcases. The fact is the Indian elite who hold the power are made up of fake sikhs, christians, pareses(zoroestrians), bramins who all act for their own personal gains they do not care much for their follow co-religionists who they will use when they need votes.

Eg, the "Indian super cop" julio riberio he is a Indian christian who adopted the policy of "bullet for bullet" and oversaw the creation of Indian terror squads (Indian blackcats dressed up Sikh seperatists) who killed many a innocent people the vast majority being innocent Sikhs and Hindus.

The guy who lead the operation on darbar sahib was a fake Sikh (General brar), the man who lead the fake encounters and killing fields of Sikhs in Punjab was also a fake Sikh (KPS Gill) the president of India who oversaw operation blue star was also a fake sikh (zail singh).

These people do not care about religion they only care for Indian nationalism and the personal gains from it. So next time offical statements are released to the press, lets remember who are the real oppressors of the Indian Sikhs are.
