is it mandatory to change your last name to Singh once you have taken amrit? My punj Pyaare told me to when i received the daan but some people say you don't need to. I also want to change my last name to Singh but just haven't gotten time to go yet, but just asking for people's opinions on what they think

I understand the meaning of getting rid of your last name and having Singh and Kaur instead. But someone once said to me if we all did this, how would we know who we're marrying- i.e they are not already distant relatives or something? That's probably one of the reasons why people keep both last name and singh/kaur

i think we have been given that order so that no one is different so that every1 can be treated the same (castesystem). becus normally the surnames are used to find out which caste the person is from.

just wat i thought,

yeah, dhan sikhi... thanks exactly what i think too.. but i dont understand why people cause such controversey over changing your last name...i mean its not like we're forcing them to do it, i dont see how it affects them in the first place...they waste so much time arguing about this stuff, although they're onces who say dont worry about chaning your last name just read bani, but fully they're ones standing there arguing

srry, guess im just kinda ticked

So your surnames means to what caste your from and not that of your family? Does this means that you might be marring your sister?

No offense intended. Its just that one day other person may say the same thing.

:TH: Okay, first of all Akal Purakh chardi kalaa bakshe, and congratulations for taking Amrit. I am assuming you just took it this week or something. :TH:

Now, if you think you should change your last name to Singh, than brother change it. However, this is my personal opinon, if the Panj Pyare told you to change it, then I think you should do every bit you can to follow their "rules", and the reason for that is because, they are the ROOP of Guru Gobind Singh, when you are taking Amrit. Imagine it Guru Gobind Singh telling you to change your last name, I know it can be hard to imagine that, but just attempt too. Now, if you think there is no need to change it nobody can force you too, but I would recommend you too change it, it doesn't have to be right away, because you have to have proper documentation to change your name in Western Countries. But yeah, you are right focus on Bani and Bana

There are quite a bit of Amritdari's that use their last name ON PAPER, physically they don't follow it. Just because its' on documentation doesn't mean you are following it.

Whatever you do, BEST OF LUCK! :TH: and Congratulations for taking AMRIT.

BOLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEEEEEE SOOOOOOOOOO NIHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAALLLLL.....

SSAAAAAAAATTTTTTT SSSSSSSSSRRIIIIIIIIIII AAAKKKKAAALLLLLLLLLL :D
