Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!

Actually, there is another topic dealing with those: and the overall consensus was that yes, it IS bad considering how the animals are treated.

Salok, First Mehla:

If one accepts the concept of impurity, then there is impurity everywhere.

In cow-dung and wood there are worms.

As many as are the grains of corn, none is without life.

First, there is life in the water, by which everything else is made green.

How can it be protected from impurity? It touches our own kitchen.

O Nanak, impurity cannot be removed in this way; it is washed away only by spiritual wisdom. ||1||

If you look at the Salok in context to WHY it was written, it makes perfect sense to the discussion at hand.

Guru Nanak wrote this Salok in reference to the Jains, who believed that everything and anything had life in it, therefore their entire lifestyle was centered around not trying to kill anything. They would walk around with cloth over their mouth so they wouldn't accidently inhale bacteria or bugs, they would watch every step their feet made; in general, they tried not to mess with the whole circle of life stuff.

If you intend to live your life in this way, you're wasting your time. Anything and everything you do will accidently or intentionally kill something. When you step out of your house you've probably killed over 100 things already.

Deal with it. That's how life runs. If you say "allow this, I'm not going to eat that because somewhere in the world a bee is dying" you're going to cause yourself a lot of problems morally.

Draw the line somewhere, before you waste your whole life on that which doesn't matter.
