What if a guy and girl that knew each other (and wanted to eventually get married) werent really into sikhi when they met, but as the years went on one of them got really into sikhi and decided that he/she wanted to take amrit, would this be wrong? (Please dont turn this into a "its wrong to date before anand karaj" post, these sort of things happen in the real world without the individuals involved knowing its right or wrong, a lot of the times the initial meeting of the two isnt planned, it just happens).

Gursikhi jeevan is a personal relationship between you and your guru, and i believe that guru sahib doesnt bless everyone with a gursikhi jeevan.

As a sikh i dont think its right to abandon your partner simply because you now decide you want to go on the path of sikhi. I think sikhi, more than anything, teaches us how to see the beauty in the differences of all beings. So this talk of both husband and wife MUST BE AMRITDHARI doesnt sit right with me, what if one simply isnt ready or even on the path of sikhi? Do we force them? Or does one hold themselves back from taking amrit until their partner is ready?

Sure, in an ideal world both individuals would be amritdhari and live a gursikhi jeevan, but thats hardly the case nowadays, what to do???

Thank you for your responses in advance sangat ji, i really really do appreciate it!

Guest _fool_

just few questions for u.

how old r u?

how long have u been with thisperson?

do u and ur girl/guy have similer thinking?

believe it or not but later on inlife the differences that we have create big problems in married life. right now its the lovey dovey love(which is blind). u need to sit back and think about this whole thing. also talk to ur partner. u r right about

As a sikh i dont think its right to abandon your partner simply because you now decide you want to go on the path of sikhi.

but also ask ur self what is the goal of ur life?

Gursikhi jeevan is a personal relationship between you and your guru, and i believe that guru sahib doesnt bless everyone with a gursikhi jeevan.

ur right on this one as well.

again im gonna ask u questionz which u need to find the asnwer for urself.

if u wanna live a gursikhi jeevan dont u think it would be good to have a partner who is also on this path?

the thing is u already know that only few are blessed with gursikhi jeevan thn why do u wanna be a with a person who is not on the same track?

there isn't just one person out there for us to fall in love with! try to understand this universe by reading gurbani. ur just asking this question and giving ur own explanations to satisfy ur mind that its ok and its not a problem to have someone who is not a gursikh as a life partner.

think before u do anything. we will have to reap what we sow.

when it comes to relationships we, influced by so many things:our friends having g/f or b/f, our families wanting us to marry someone, or the music/media, end up with someone who is beautiful from "outside" or the person we get attracted to. but the thing is prob a lil more and u will see that there is more to a relationship them those few things. thats why people DATE...so they can find out if the person has smilier belifz and kinda walking on the same path.

i hope u get wht im tryin to say here.

Sikhi is personal but i have seen many couples get into these petty fights just cuz one doesn't care about sikhi and the other person does. do we want peace at home or lil fights about "sikhi"

i have met many people in life who dont know much about sikhi...and when i sit to talk with them....i find my self on a diff page thn that person. im not talking abot dating but just in genrl.

its better to ask urself hard questions right now rthr than dealing with them after getting married and having to live witheach other just for the sake of it!

use gurbani as ur guide=)

forgive me if i offended u in anyway.

much love

kaur

Guru ji is inside everyone.

Its about realization.

If Guru ji is within you, how are you not blessed with a gursikhi jeevan?

just something to think about.

Bhul Chuk Maaf.

    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
