Bibi & Farla

Farla/Farra - A loose piece of turban cloth adorning the top of the Dumala (see above) worn by Akali Nihangs. The cloth is always 'neela' (dark blue) in colour.

A Singh with a farla can be thought of as a General within the nihang army - an ancient tradition tracing back more than three centuries.

You are given a farla as a recognition of your commitment, devotion, immense knowledge and tremendous service for the khalsa panth. Those are just a few of the attributes. If the significance is not clear then perhaps the fact that; the vast majority of Nihang Singhs do not recieve a farla in their entire lifetime, simply knowing how to tie a farla doesn't make you that important or a general its the acknowledgement of accomplishing something, seva, knowledge, wisdom, etc.

I saw alot of singhs in India who wore a farla, but I doubt many of them obtained it from accomplishing something important or noteworthy. Not sure about Nihung Singh maryada about bibian being able to wear farle or not.

Bhul chuk muaf.

farla does not mean anything extraordinary.......its something seen only within the Nihang Samparday of Sikhs...it implies that a Nihang Singh has done something special to recieve the honour of carrying the blue nishan sahib which is the nishan of the Nihang Samparday... but bibia (women) are not allowed to recieve farla because Nishan Sahib's are only allowed to be carried by men....such as at Nagar Kirtans where Panj Piare carry Panj Nishan
