Its human nature that higher the status of the man, the more he respects him. But he ignores the person lower to him. But in case of gurmat, it is

'neecha ander neech jaat, neechi huun att neech ll

Nanak tin ke sang saath, vadeya suon kya rees ll'

Respecting Guru ji doesn't mean showing respect to Guru Granth Sahib ji only. Real respect to guru ji means respect to his words, his people and his 'kudrat'.

Now the ques. arises why we should 'respect' Guruji? Because He is the only one who shows us the way to God. Without Guru ji, there will be whole darkness in the world of knowledge. And last but not the least, He only, posses the patience to ignore our sins, defaults and then hug us in His arms. Our Guruji is the only Guru who has given the status to his disciple 'sikh' as 'Guru' and Himself his 'daas'.

'VAHO VAHO GOBIND SINGH APPE GUR CHELA'.

Forgive me if i have written something wrong.

Because Guru is God, God is Guru. There is no difference between Guru and God, they are truly one.
