This is a topic which is being ignored by every one, one only pays attention to it; if it comes to that person. Many of us think that we can wear kirpans in schools of Ontario, we can! but for your knowledge let me tell you it's just a privilage not a right. Means that being a privilage it's just an advantage given to us(sikhs) by the government of Ontario that sikhs can wear only 6 inch kirpan in schools, they can tell us to take it off when ever they think it is a danger to public life (unfortunately this is what they think), but if it is passed as a law that sikhs has the RIGHT to wear kirpans they can not tell us to take it off, no matter where we go in Canada.

Lets take the issue of Gurbaj Singh from montreal , I was so effected by the courage and the love this sikh have for sikhi and for guru ji that he denied to take off his kirpan as a result he is not allowed in school. For more than one year he is studing at his home. He and his family are new immigrants from India, but they are still fighting in courts so that we who were born here( in Canada) and still ignoring this important issue can go in schools wearing kirpans, how unthankful and selfish we are. Here is the link (http://www.sikhs.ca/kirpan/thekirpancase.html ) which tells you the whole story, it deeply effected my heart when i read the story that people could be so racist and unthankful, unthankful because they don't know that if a sikh wears a kirpan he will use it to protect the poor not to chop apples or to show off.

Guru Gobind Singh Ji say :-

If a sikh does not have a shaster with him, he is equal to goat , a sikh should not show

himself to others without a shasters. Now it's up to us that IF WE WANT TO BE A GOAT OR A TIGER (SINGH).

I would like every one to teach their community about sikhs, and five K's don't just tell tey are symbols, they are much more than symbols, get your dasvandh (10% of your income) involved in this issue, otherwise that day is not far when kirpans will be banned in Canada.

well..i've been wearing my kirpan to school all the time(Malaysia)..n i haven't got caught yet...but if i do...there is one teacher who knowz abt our religion n i can explain to them...they can't take it off me...

we have to educate our ppl more abt sikhi..so that when ppl ask them sumthing..they'll know how to explain to them abt our religion...

our 5 kakaars aren't just symbols...itz a part of us...we can't afford to remove anything which is soooo attached to us..

Unfortunately, at school, the adults think that you are not capable of being responsible with 'a weapon' as they see it!

They seem to think we are all raving lunatics and will stab everyone!

Its hard to explain to Education Authorities the rules under which a kirpan can be used. They never understand..they just think it can all be misused!

They only way we have been able to wear a kirpan is by hiding it..

me and my friends wear kirpans to school and i kno that some teachers kno that we have kirpans, but they kind of respect it... and they do not tell any one else .. and our first principal knew.. and he was cool with it.. but since the principals keep changing at my school.. we dont keep tellin the new ones.. but anyway.. the teachers that already knew.. dont really mind.. and yeah!!

But there is the one teacher that i heard of and he heard about the kirpan and got all freaked out and stuff.. but that was someone else and they dropped out :T:

I was thinking, take it form a view of a school offical.. would he let someone wit a kirapn into a school, his duty is to protect the children

then the thing comes up he samritdhari so he knows when to use it, but what if he isnt i mean all sikhs arent good... look at the guy in cali who killed the other sikhs

you dont kno anythin about that case.. the guy that was shooting had severe depression and had some mental problems and people just get frustrated sometimes!! and he got shot too.. and the guy shooting and the people shot werent sikhs.. a sikh keeps hair .. they didnt..

even though SOME people *cough* GORAY *cough* think that they were.. so dont worry too much about that one..

Sikh student loses fight to wear kirpan to school

Montreal -- The Quebec Court of Appeal has overturned a lower court judgment that allowed a Sikh student to wear a ceremonial dagger to school.

The appeal court agreed with the Quebec government, the Marguerite-Bourgeoys school board and the administration of l'École Sainte-Catherine-Laboure, all of which opposed the wearing of the kirpan due to security concerns.

The court said public safety takes precedence over religious freedom and also noted there is "zero tolerance" for any knives in schools. Julius Grey, lawyer for 12-year-old Gurbaj Multani, said he will appeal the ruling to the Supreme Court of Canada. CP

and i showed it to my geography teacher and hes like "A DAGGER ,I AGREE WITH THEM [quebec]" im like well u dont no what its for and he was in a rush so i couldnt tel him so i want to know if anyone can supply me with some good links for him to understand kirpans
