Adhering to their principles and innate spirit, while keeping pace with modernity, recently, a number of Sikhs in their Sikhi swaroop have appeared in Media, Fashion shows and Modeling.

Right from the Hollywood actor, Waris Ahluwalia to the Kenneth Cole guy Sandeep Caberwal, Singhs in their identity have indeed tried to make a mark in the International media. Back home, in India too, Graviera Mr. India 2004- Jaspal Singh Sehgal, voice of India, Ishmeet Singh and Indian Champ, Rohanpreet Singh have brought us laurels. The successful image of these individuals has overpowered the distorted and negative image of Sikhs so far portrayed in the Bollywood industry. What needs to be done further is to pick up from here, revolutionize it and take it to still greater heights.

Unless we tell our stories, the world will not know us. Silver Screen is a didactic and democratic medium that reaches far and wide. Then why not use this educative and entertaining medium effectively to tell the world who we are? Be it schools or colleges, offices or playgrounds and beaches the Singhs and Singhnis always stand out because of their distinct identity. Kudos to all those who are educating everybody just by being ‘what they are’. Many organizations have also taken up the task to educate the world about Sikhs. We should take this cause further by using media as a tool to do it more effectively.

We, at Noor Nissan Films have taken up the task of introducing Sikh actors to play lead roles in the mainstream cinema. We also specialize in training the aspiring actors of all ages. If you have your heart in it, you may contact us at sixthriver@gmail.com . Soon we are going to have audition for four main roles for our new film, “The Sixth River”. We are also going to make a database of all the actors for many more of our films to follow.

Noor Nissan productions pioneered the task of making films for the Sikh Diaspora with their maiden venture , “Kambdi Kalaai”. Now we are taking a step ahead and introducing Sikhs and their stories in lead roles on the International level. If you are a Sikh and have the desire to be on the big screen, now is the time to act and be proactive and tell us about it because we have the platform where you can prove yourself. Moreover, it will give you an opportunity to become a role model for many others who aspire to be a part of this medium. What really do Sikh kids see as role models in media today? The Brad Pit’s or the Sharukh Khans? We want to introduce a protagonist in our film that kids look at and say “I want to be him,a proud Sikh!”

Our Requirement:

1. 20-25 Yrs. Old, Tall (at least 5ft 9”), well built, turbaned Sikh boy with untrimmed beard. American accent is important.

2. 5-9 Yrs. old Sikh boy

3. 5-9 Yrs. old Sikh girl

4. 65-75yrs. old turbaned non-trimmer Sikh Man

For the preliminary selection please fill out the audition form from

http://www.nn-films.com/thesixthriver.html and submit it not later than 15th May.

After the preliminary round we will have a semi final round .The finalists will then be selected for a crash course in Acting which will include personality development, enhancing communication and Acting skills.

We are also offering internship programs to people of all ages who are interested in the art of filmmaking. Internship programs will include guidance and training for production and direction.

Since this is something to do with the Sikh community, I would urge every Sikh to be a part of it. Kindly display the printout of this information in Schools, Universities and Gurudwaras.

Hope to see you on board.

    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
