What happens is that during winter, the body uses up all the sugar during sleep to keep itself warm and burn fat in the process. (Sugar is key ingrediant in converting fat into energy). So when one wakes up in the morning the body is depleted of sugar and we feel tired due to sugar deficit.

Begin your morning (first thing after waking up) by drinking some juice of soda pop which has lot of sugar content. I usually drink lime juice with sugar after waking up. And it makes me alert right away.

p.s. that would be juice OR soda pop according to your preferance.

Regular intense exercise will keep your metabolism in check (there are certain yoga sadhanas that can help as well) and help you feel fresh and alert when you wake up. Also don't eat heavy meals before sleeping. It's always harder in winter anyway.
