The Enemies Within our community:

On the 6 of June 2009 it will be the 25th anniversary of the massacre of the Sikhs at Amritsar at the hands of the Hindu Government. The Massacre at Amritsar was just the beginning of abuse by the Indian government against the Sikhs. A further massacre took place after the death of Indira Gandhi, the Hindu prime minister who ordered the attack on Amritsar.

The Sikhs have suffered enormous and untold harm at the hands of the Indian government and its agencies, which knowingly and recklessly encouraged violence against them. To this day, even though the identities of the perpetrators are known they have not been tried for the crimes committed against the Sikhs. But we know who is responsible for this and that we cannot expect any justice or fairness from them and we also know exactly where we stand with them and that they are not to be trusted.

Just as we know who are our enemies outside our community we also need to identify the enemies within our community.

In Gravesend, a monument to honor the memory of the young men who gave their lives for the Sikh cause was erected. The Gravesham Gurdwara Committee or some of the people making the decisions on behalf of the committee have ordered the demolition of this monument. This Monument was erected as a lasting recognition of the sacrifices made by Sikhs and the honor we wished to bestow upon them.

On the 2nd of May 2009 at 2.00 to 6.30pm at Woodville Halls in Gravesend an event is taking place to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Massacre and make young Sikhs aware of our past. This event is being organized by the very people who have ordered the destruction of the monument erected in memory of the Martyrs who sacrificed themselves for the Sikh nation.

So the question is who are these people who on the one hand are keen to commemorate these sacrifices and shed a light on this very dark period in the lives of the Sikhs and yet on the other hand are willing without any thought and consideration to desecrate the memory of the martyrs. They are without a doubt the enemies within our community. We as a Sikh community need to stand up to them and put a stop to their planned destruction.

We have raised objections to their plans but they are not willing to reverse their decision. They wish to demolish the monument to allow vehicular access to The Education Centre, Khalsa Avenue, which against opposition they are turning into a Day Centre.

We need you on our side. We need to put a stop to these kinds of decisions being taken by the Gurdwara Committee. They have no right to desecrate the monument and they have no right to turn The Education Centre into a Day Centre. Therefore if you also feel that what is being planned is wrong please show your support by signing the petition underneath and contacting the Gurdwara Committee with your objections at: Clarence Place, Gravesend Kent.

We the undersigned:-

1) Oppose the planned destruction of any part of the monument and desecration of the memory of the Sikh martyrs therein in favor of access roads being developed by the Gurdwara Committee to accommodate the hugely unpopular conversion of The Khalsa Avenue Education Centre into a day centre.

2) We strongly oppose the conversion of the Khalsa Avenue Education Centre into a Day Centre.

The gurdvara commitee are really really funky and dont give a damn about anything and any maryada. . . all about money money money

Thats why the Panj is the only option for authority in running our gurdwaras. Each of which should be appointed because of his or her's Bana, Bani & Seva

yeah we need a central or at least pious authority to sort out all gurudwaras here. otherwise they'll just be run like giant cornershops.
