RE: IMPENDING RELEASE OF OFFENSIVE FILM

Please consider this correspondence as expressing my official grievance, disgust and complaint against the upcoming film directed by Apoorva Lakhia and produced by Shree Ashtavinayak. The protagonist of this film will be a highly controversial and detested person who goes by the name of Kanwar Pal Singh Gill.

This latest film is in a long line of offensive films which attack the credibility, morality and beliefs of Sikhs the world over, I would go so far as to say these films attack the very fundamentals of the Sikh faith.

The person that is Kanwar Pal Singh Gill, who is a convicted sex offender, needs a closer examination to rightfully understand the greatly disliked position he enjoys amongst adherents of the Sikh faith.

He is considered responsible for the murders of thousands of Sikhs from the state of Punjab which has earned him the adage of "the Butcher of the Punjab", many mothers and fathers can attest to this, their details can be provided.

To add to this long list of murders there are countless claims of human rights violations and flagrant abuses that bear the name of K.P.S. Gill. Among these is the story of Bhai Gurdev Singh, Area Commander for the Khalistan Commando Force who was tortured and then boiled alive by the police. Police officers under the command of K.P.S. Gill used inhumane torture against alleged Sikh militants. Many thousands of Sikhs were killed without investigation or trial into alleged militant activates. Women, Children, Elderly no one was spared. People who have investigated these murders have themselves become targets and victims of this orchestrated slaughter. I bring to your attention the case of Jaswant Singh Khalra.

In 1995, while washing his car in front of his house, Jaswant Singh was abducted by under-cover commandos of Punjab Police at behest of Senior Superintendent of Police Ajit Singh Sandhu and taken to Jhabal police station. Although witnesses gave statements implicating the police and have named former police chief K.P.S. Gill as a conspirator, police denied having ever arrested or detained him, and claimed to have no knowledge of his whereabouts.

In 1996, the Central Bureau of Investigation found evidence that he was held at a police station in Tarn Taran and recommended the prosecution of nine Punjab police officials for murder and kidnapping. Those accused of his murder were not charged for ten years, though one of the suspects committed suicide in 1997. On November 18, 2005, six Punjab police officials were convicted and sentenced to seven years imprisonment for Jaswant Singh's abduction and murder. On October 16, 2007 a division bench of Punjab and Haryana High Court, chaired by Justices Mehtab Singh Gill and A. N. Jindal, extended the sentence to Life imprisonment for four of the accused; Satnam Singh, Surinder Pal Singh, Jasbir Singh (all former Sub Inspectors) and Prithipal Singh (former Head Constable).

Jaswant Singh's contribution to humanity and Human Rights is evident from his work. He collected data and information in relation to the abduction, murder and secret cremations of thousands of Sikhs in the Punjab, he identified K.P.S. Gill (then Director General of Punjab Police) for coordinating and leading these mass cremations. The list he complied contains the information of Sikhs cremated in just two Tehsils (Sub Administrative Division) of Punjab. The Supreme Court of India and National Human Rights Commission of India has certified the validity of Data.

Jaswant Singh's assertion was that there were more than 25,000 abducted Sikhs killed by corrupt police and cremated as unidentified and unclaimed, while there are many Sikh families waiting for their disappeared beloved ones. The list he compiled is available to view at the following url: http://www.tribuneindia.com/2004/20040730/nhrc1.htm

Aside from the numerous allegations levelled against Punjab police and K.P.S. Gill documented by various Human Rights Organisations of torture, unlawful arrest, illegal detention, rape and murder; the character of K.P.S. Gill has become proven to be unsavoury, untrustworthy and prone to corruption.

The tenure, K.P.S. Gill held of the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) was plagued by corruption and mismanagement as well as charges of misappropriation of funds and match fixing. The IHF vice-president Narendra Batra resigned from his post after the 2008 Olympics failure stating, "I am ashamed because all of us have failed". Batra also alleged "autocratic" functioning by K.P.S. Gill and sought the resignations of the entire board of IHF officials. After repeated demands for the resignation of K.P.S. Gill one hundred members of parliament successfully petitioned for his removal.

Many films have been made that act to undermine the principles of The Sikh Way of Life. A recent example of this is the popular film Slumdog Millionaire, there is a scene in this movie that deviously attacks the very fundamentals of our noble traditions. As you may recall when the two main characters are 'train surfing' they attempt to steal some food from a carriage which is occupied by a Sikh family. The camera is focused on a 'fat Sikh boy' who has a 'roti' in one hand and a banana in the other, his entire family is enjoying an ample meal, when through the window the 'young Jamal' attempts to procure one roti from a stack. He is caught and the 'father of the fat Sikh boy' who fights 'young Jamal' for this roti. The comedic value of this scene is as evident as the subverted attack on the principles of The Sikh Way of Life it represents. It is a well known fact and centuries old tradition as advocated by our first Guru Ji that Sikhs are to employ and live by a principle known as 'Vand Keh Chakhna'. 'Vand Keh Chakhna' can be loosely translated as 'Share Your Food'; this is a point of morality for Sikhs who view all of mankind as equals and pray every day for the benefit of mankind. Aside from the principle of 'Vand Keh Chakhna' Sikhs, centuries ago were instructed to have a 'Langar' (free kitchen/meals) in their Gurdwaras, open to all. The idea of Langar enshrines and upholds the tenants of equality, humility, respect, love and piety which are very close to the hearts of all true Sikhs.

For many watching these films the perception they hold of the Sikhs is being slow eroded, and for others who have no idea what Sikhi stands for are being shown a widely distorted picture. Sikhs are well aware of how the machinery of Indian government can silence the voice of minority protests and enforce the legitimization of particular stereotypes across the media. Now 'bollywood' is attempting to cash in on hysterical stereotypes and is in the process of enforcing a new deliberately malign and often ridiculed image.

Sikhs will no longer stand for others to laugh at their expense, while their rights and liberties are being violated in a state which is their ancestral home, Punjab.

Sikhs have fought in every war of consequence since the 17th century, and the contribution they have made is renowned. We fought for the independence of India and even though we are a minority we account highly amongst the dead and imprisoned. Sikhs fought for the independence of western nations during the two Great Wars and again sacrificed countless of their young and noble warriors. The debt the free nations of the world owe the Sikhs has not been accounted for.

I leave you with the words of Winston Churchill speaking in relation to the Dastaar (Turban) of the Sikhs.

"Those who know Sikh history, fully well know England's relationship with the Sikhs and are also aware of the achievements of the Sikhs. They should persistently support the idea of relaxation to the Sikhs to ride a motorcycle with their turbans on because it is their religious privilege...British people are highly indebted and obliged to Sikhs for a very long time. I know that within this century we needed their help twice and they did help us very well. As a result of their timely cooperation, we are today able to live with honour, dignity and independence. In the war they fought and died for us wearing the Turbans. At that time we were not adamant that they should wear safety helmets because we knew that they are not going to wear them anyway and we would be deprived of their services. At that time due to our miserable and poor situation, we did not force it on them to wear safety helmets, why should we force it now? Rather we should now respect their traditions and by granting this legitimate concession win their applaud. " – Winston Churchill

Yours faithfully, in anticipation,

Calm down Citizen Soulja, their are three threads on thesame subject.

Funny how u dont take your own advice, I remember how you "Arrogantly" advised everyone when

it came to reports by myself and various other members of Sikhs being beaten up and having beer

poured over their turbans follwing Pakistans victory at the cricket matches :

You said : DO naam simran, everything will be ok, and called me " scaremongering"

Yet you ; Mr "Im so scared of a Bollywood film", seem extremely flustered

and angry about a film which hasnt even been made.

Get real you dont even know what the script is yet and your jumping out of your pram!

Even SENDING a petition at this stage is JUMPING the gun and sounds childish

I would advise re the petition that it looks fairly weak at the moment, as full names and addresses of all those signing it must be MANDATORY,

to make it look more authtentic; Otherwise it seems fake, as anyone can type many fake names!

As for your your letter, their are parts that are good, but I think drags on a bit a bit.

You go from sounding very intelligent , using good vocabulary to sounding quite amateurish

in the first few paragraphs, DONT use words like Disgusting etc, as you sound too angry,

stick to the cool intelligent approach.

PS ; You criticised my use of flyer / leaflets, yet you want to borrow that idea for this cause???

THIS IS WHAT I SAID in relation to all your hype and propaganda about how 'our' girls are getting converted and our boys getting beaten up:

GURU JI REPEATEDLY SAYS NAAM JAAPO NAAM JAAPO NAAM JAAPO

YOU HAVE NOT READ AND UNDERSTOOD WHAT I AM SAYING

Let me repeat:

WHEN ALL OTHER MEANS HAVE FAILED IT IS JUST TO DRAW THE SWORD

The answer to our problems is SIKHI PARCHAAR

The best PRECAUTION is EDUCATION (SIKHI PARCHAAR)

let me make it clear:

i DO NOT think Sikhi is a non-violent pacifist way of life, it is not. In fact it is our job as Sikhs to stand defiantly in the face of tyranny, oppression, and injustice where ever we may find it, in whatever form.

But what you fail to realise is that this is not our only motivation we as Sikhs are Saint-Soldiers it is our utmost priority to seek divinity within our selves and attain oneness with God. So if you are a true Sikh you can never be wrong, you can never be stopped, you will always fulfil your goals.

We like many others before us only wish to ensure that out people are protected from the abuses of an Oppressive Fascist Government. If this means the establishment of an independent state then so be it. If this means the passing of legislation that guarantees our autonomy as a nation then so be it. If it means alerting the Worlds Human Rights Organisations to the Torture, Rape, Genocide, Dissemination of the Faith of the Sikhs then so be it. If it means guerilla warfare then so be it.

What we are doing in relation to this film is a form of Sikhi Parchaar, dispelling falsifications and educating as to the reality of our traditions and way of life!!

When you were talking about these conversions I said that Sikhi Parchaar is the best solution as it will stop the problem arising in the first place; as educated people are empowered to protect themselves from ideological attacks and false propaganda. If all our youth were aware of their rich history and noble traditions then they would have a greater love and affinity for Sikhi.

I'm not angry in fact I'm quite happy that these HINDU EXTREMISTS are trying to release a film about the murderous KPS Gill as it gives us an excellent opportunity to air our opinions and grievances about this callous man. GOI has tried to close this issue and keep referring to Gill as a super cop when he's just a devious murderer who sanctioned the use of vile tactics against Sikhs (and their families) who fought for SIKHI and the Sikh Way of Life!

I dont need to know what the script is. I know what the intention behind the film is. When has India ever shown Sikhs as freedom fighters? Bollywood has a track record of insulting and mocking Sikhs. It is in the indian political interest to subjugate minorities in favour of the Hindu majority. That is why Naxalites, Tamils, Dalits, Christians, Muslims, Sikhs and all other minorities are being killed and abused. This is not a recent occurrence but has been happening since the partition.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1O2WwESwJhw

watch this film and you see how the tactics being used are exactly the same as the ones being used against the Sikhs and other minorities.

I don't believe I'm jumping the gun, I believe im organising a strong resistance and creating and facilitating a pre-emptive strike as I advised you to do in relation to the issue of conversions, namely education as a means of prevention and deterrence.

Who's sent a petition? At this stage we're just collecting signatures. Also there are measures in place to ensure the authenticity and validity of data gathered.

Also I did not tell you not to create posters, rather I sarcastically commented on your desire to 'do something':

mani so scared of 'pakis' wants to "do something" (i think he wanted to create a flyer)

for which im sorry if I offended you.

also,

please provide examples of how i go from sounding intelligent to 'quite amateurish '

i will try to accommodate

also the intention is to get across some emotion, as many familys were killed, Mothers, Sisters, daughters horrifically abused and many thousands of Fathers, brothers and sons tortured and murdered in fake encounters, so yes there is an underlying tone of aggrievement

Well done on the letter by the way, as u will note that I did COMPLIMENT you.

Your first paragraphs are very good, but try to use antoehr word instead of disgusting or detested maybe abhorrent and loathed?

You also need to make is a bit shorter and to the point.

The Slum Dog millionaire example is WEAK, why not Jo Bole SO Nihaal where Sunny Deol makes fun of SInghs ie his turban twisted after the be scene, or theway he grunts when he gets turned on.

What abotu Singh Is KIng with the Shaved face Singhs??

    • was researching this and came back to this thread. Also found an older thread:
    • Net pay after taxes. If you don't agree, think about this: If you were a trader and started off in China with silk that cost 100 rupees and came to India, and you had to pay total 800 rupees taxes at every small kingdom along the way, and then sold your goods for 1000 rupees, you'd have 100 rupees left, right? If your daswandh is on the gross, that's 100 rupees, meaning you have nothing left. Obviously, you owe only 10% of 100, not 10% of 1000. No, it's 10% before bills and other expenses. These expenses are not your expenses to earn money. They are consumption. If you are a business owner, you take out all expenses, including rent, shop electricity, cost of goods sold, advertising, and government taxes. Whatever is left is your profit and you owe 10% of that.  If you are an employee, you are also entitled to deduct the cost of earning money. That would be government taxes. Everything else is consumption.
    • No, bro, it's simply not true that no one talks about Simran. Where did you hear that? Swingdon? The entire Sikh world talks about doing Simran, whether it's Maskeen ji, Giani Pinderpal Singh, Giani Kulwant Singh Jawaddi, or Sants. So what are you talking about? Agreed. Agreed. Well, if every bani were exactly the same, then why would Guru ji even write anything after writing Japji Sahib? We should all enjoy all the banis. No, Gurbani tells you to do Simran, but it's not just "the manual". Gurbani itself also has cleansing powers. I'm not saying not to do Simran. Do it. But Gurbani is not merely "the manual". Reading and singing Gurbani is spiritually helpful: ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਭਾਖਿਆ ॥  ਗਾਵਹੁ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਪੜਹੁ ਨਿਤ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੈ ਤੂ ਰਾਖਿਆ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ The Lord's Bani and the words are the best utterances. Ever sing hear and recite them, O brother and the Perfect Guru shall save thee. Pause. p611 Here Guru ji shows the importance of both Bani and Naam: ਆਇਓ ਸੁਨਨ ਪੜਨ ਕਉ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਲਗਹਿ ਅਨ ਲਾਲਚਿ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਰਾਣੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ The mortal has come to hear and utter Bani. Forgetting the Name thou attached thyself to other desires. Vain is thy life, O mortal. Pause. p1219 Are there any house manuals that say to read and sing the house manual?
    • All of these are suppositions, bro. Linguists know that, generally, all the social classes of a physical area speak the same language, though some classes may use more advanced vocabulary. I'm talking about the syntax. That is, unless the King is an invader, which Porus was not. When you say Punjabi wasn't very evolved, what do you mean? The syntax must have been roughly the same. As for vocabulary, do you really think Punjabis at the time did nothing more than grunt to express their thoughts? That they had no shades of meaning? Such as hot/cold, red/yellow/blue, angry/sweet/loving/sad, etc? Why must we always have an inferiority complex?
    • I still think about that incident now and then, just haven't heard any developments regarding what happened, just like so many other things that have happened in Panjab!
