One time Gyani Mohan Singh Ji Rare Sahib wale visited Sant Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji Bhindranwale and asked Mahapursh what the signs of a Brahmgyani were.

Sant Ji smiled and said, When one has completely destroyed any essence of ego such that it does not come even to them in their dreams. When one has defeated all vikaars and sees Wahegurus light everywhere in each and every soul then the nishani of Brahmgyan will be hoisted. Gurmat principles demand that even when one achieves such an avastha they still should think of themselves as the slave of everyone.

Bhai Paramjeet Singh Mahalpurwale said that one evening at Sachkhand Sri Punjokara Sahib Ji when all the sangat was standing for ardas after katha he began to feel unwell and took hold of Sant Jis arm for support. At this point Bhai Sahib thought to himself that as I am standing near a Mahapursh Naam Simran should start. As soon as this thought passed though his mind Naam Simran began in Bhai Sahibs heart. Bhai Sahib stated that when he was near to Sant Ji Naam Simran continued but as soon as he moved away from Mahapursh this type of Naam Simran stopped.

To achieve Brahmgyan one must be completely in love with the beautiful charankamal of Satguru Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj. It is not something which comes about just like that but requires effort.

For example one time on the Avtar Purab of Dhan Dhan Satguru Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj Sant Ji and twelve other Singhs from the jatha had organised 127 Sri Akhand Paat Sahibs to be conducted. Mahapursh at 2am in the night would go into a hut and sit there doing Naam Abhiyaas until 11am when he would come out. In the evening Sant Ji would do paat for one hour and the rest of the Singhs from the jatha would listen with their Sri Pothi Sahibs.

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰਦੋਖ ॥ ਜੈਸੇ ਸੂਰੁ ਸਰਬ ਕਉ ਸੋਖ ॥

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੈ ਧੀਰਜੁ ਏਕ ॥ ਜਿਉ ਬਸੁਧਾ ਕੋਊ ਖੋਦੈ ਕੋਊ ਚੰਦਨ ਲੇਪ ॥

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਾ ਇਹੈ ਗੁਨਾਉ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਉ ਪਾਵਕ ਕਾ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਭਾਉ ॥੧॥

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਤੇ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ॥ ਜੈਸੇ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਜਲਾ ॥

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਇ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ॥ ਜੈਸੇ ਧਰ ਊਪਰਿ ਆਕਾਸੁ ॥

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੈ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਸਤ੍ਰੁ ਸਮਾਨਿ ॥ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਅਭਿਮਾਨ ॥

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਊਚ ਤੇ ਊਚਾ ॥ ਮਨਿ ਅਪਨੈ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਤੇ ਨੀਚਾ ॥

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਭਏ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥੨॥

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸਗਲ ਕੀ ਰੀਨਾ ॥ ਆਤਮ ਰਸੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਚੀਨਾ ॥

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੀ ਸਭ ਊਪਰਿ ਮਇਆ ॥ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਤੇ ਕਛੁ ਬੁਰਾ ਨ ਭਇਆ ॥

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸਦਾ ਸਮਦਰਸੀ ॥ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਬਰਸੀ ॥

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੇ ਮੁਕਤਾ ॥ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜੁਗਤਾ ॥

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਾ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਗਿਆਨ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਾ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥੩॥

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਧੰਧਾ ॥ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਲੇ ਧਾਵਤੁ ਬੰਧਾ ॥

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੈ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਭਲਾ ॥ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸੁਫਲ ਫਲਾ ॥

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਾ ਦਰਸੁ ਬਡਭਾਗੀ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਉ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈਐ ॥

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਉ ਖੋਜਹਿ ਮਹੇਸੁਰ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਆਪਿ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ॥੬॥

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਾਹਿ ॥ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੈ ਸਗਲ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਾ ਕਉਨ ਜਾਨੈ ਭੇਦੁ ॥ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਉ ਸਦਾ ਅਦੇਸੁ ॥

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਾ ਕਥਿਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਅਧਾਖ੍ਯ੍ਯਰੁ ॥ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸਰਬ ਕਾ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ॥

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੀ ਮਿਤਿ ਕਉਨੁ ਬਖਾਨੈ ॥ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਜਾਨੈ ॥

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰੁ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਉ ਸਦਾ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੁ ॥੭॥

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸਭ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਕਾ ਕਰਤਾ ॥ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸਦ ਜੀਵੈ ਨਹੀ ਮਰਤਾ ॥

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਜੀਅ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ॥ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਅਨਾਥ ਕਾ ਨਾਥੁ ॥ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਾ ਸਭ ਊਪਰਿ ਹਾਥੁ ॥

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਾ ਸਗਲ ਅਕਾਰੁ ॥ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ॥

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਬਨੀ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸਰਬ ਕਾ ਧਨੀ ॥੮॥੮॥

If above is the definition of BREHAM GYANI,no human being can be

called with such a pious ADJECTIVE which can only be used for

SATGURU or Akaal Purakh as is told above:-

"NANAK BRAHM GYANI AAP PARMESUR"

and

" BRAHM GYANI AAP NIRANKAAR."

and

"BRAHM GYANI KI MIT KAUN BAKHAANE,

BRAHM GYANI KI GAT BRAHM GYANI JANE."

and the above two lines are narrated at another place in GURU GRANTH

SAHIB JI like :-

"KARTE KEE MIT KARTA JANE KAI JAANE GUR SOORA"

My own understanding of the term "Brahm Gyani" is when one follows the entire teachings of the SGGS. For example..........

ਸੁਖੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਿਜਹ ਪਰਸੈ ਨਹੀ ਲੋਭੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਅਿਭਮਾਨੁ ॥ ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਨੁ ਰੇ ਮਨਾ ਸੋ ਮੂਰਿਤ ਭਗਵਾਨ

ਬਰ੍ਹਮ ਿਨਵਾਸੁ ॥੧੮॥ ਿਜਿਹ ਪਰ੍ਾਨੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਤਜੀ ਕਰਤਾ ਰਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਿਨ ॥ ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਵਹੁ ਮੁਕਿਤ ਨਰੁ

ਇਹ ਮਨ ਸਾਚੀ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੧੯॥ {ਪੰਨਾ 1427}

............If we read the saloks Guru Ji says that if we control our five vices then we are in the state of Brahm Gyan.

Dhan se sei Nanaka pooran soi sant.

Never ignore or forget pooran brahmgyani mahapursh....there way is the only way, because they followed gurbani to the letter, not just read it but performed it and became so intune with god ....that they became god themselves....."brahmgyani aap parmesur".....if we are lucky we will meet and gain the charan dhoor of such pooran mahapursh......"sant ka marg dharam ki pauri, ko vadhbhagi paye"....so please as we do khandan of all the false money making pakhandis out there...lets not forget that true pooran brahmgyani are also out there....they dont sit on thrones or appear on magazine/newspaper covers.......because they are performing gurbani....the performance is far more important than the theory........"avar kaaj tere kitai na kaam, mil saadh sangat bhaj keval naam"

ਸਾਧੋ ਰਾਮ ਸਰਨਿ ਬਿਸਰਾਮਾ ॥

Holy Saadhus: rest and peace are in the Sanctuary of the Lord.

ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨ ਪੜੇ ਕੋ ਇਹ ਗੁਨ ਸਿਮਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਮਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

baedh puraan parrae ko eih gun simarae har ko naamaa ||1|| rehaao ||

This is the blessing of studying the Vedas and the Puraanas,

that you may meditate on the Name of the Lord. ||1||Pause||

ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਮਤਾ ਫੁਨਿ ਅਉ ਬਿਖਿਅਨ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ॥ਹਰਖ ਸੋਗ ਪਰਸੈ ਜਿਹ ਨਾਹਨਿ ਸੋ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਹੈ ਦੇਵਾ ॥੧॥

lobh moh maaeiaa mamathaa fun ao bikhian kee saevaa ||

harakh sog parasai jih naahan so moorath hai dhaevaa ||1||

Greed, emotional attachment to Maya, possessiveness,

the service of evil, pleasure and pain - those who are not touched by these,

are the very embodiment of the Divine Lord. ||1||

ਸੁਰਗ ਨਰਕ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਿਖੁ ਏ ਸਭ ਤਿਉ ਕੰਚਨ ਅਰੁ ਪੈਸਾ ॥

surag narak anmrith bikh eae sabh thio kanchan ar paisaa ||

Heaven and hell, ambrosial nectar and poison, gold and copper

- these are all alike to them.

ਉਸਤਤਿ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਏ ਸਮ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਲੋਭੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਫੁਨਿ ਤੈਸਾ ॥੨॥

ousathath nindhaa eae sam jaa kai lobh mohu fun thaisaa ||2||

Praise and slander are all the same to them, as are greed and attachment. ||2||

ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਏ ਬਾਧੇ ਜਿਹ ਨਾਹਨਿ ਤਿਹ ਤੁਮ ਜਾਨਉ ਗਿਆਨੀ ॥

dhukh sukh eae baadhhae jih naahan thih thum jaano giaanee ||

They are not bound by pleasure and pain - know that they are truly wise.

ਨਾਨਕ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਤੁਮ ਮਾਨਉ ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਕੋ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ॥੩॥੭॥

naanak mukath thaahi thum maano eih bidhh ko jo praanee ||3||7||

O Nanak, recognize those mortal beings as liberated, who live this way of life. ||3||7||

And, here is the definition of PURAKH and MAHAPURAKH :-

ਜੈਤਸਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ਘਰੁ ੨

Remember in meditation the Lord, Har, Har, the unfathomable, infinite Lord.

ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਦੁਖੁ ਮਿਟੈ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥

jis simarath dhukh mittai hamaaraa ||

Remembering Him in meditation, pains are dispelled.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਮਿਲਾਵਹੁ ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ਰਾਮ ॥੧॥

har har sathigur purakh milaavahu gur miliai sukh hoee raam ||1||

O Lord, Har, Har, lead me to meet the True Guru; meeting the Guru, I am at peace. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹੁ ਮੀਤ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥

har gun gaavahu meeth hamaarae ||

Sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, O my friend.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਖਹੁ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੇ ॥

har har naam rakhahu our dhhaarae ||

Cherish the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, in your heart.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਣਾਵਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਈ ਰਾਮ ॥੨॥

har har anmrith bachan sunaavahu gur miliai paragatt hoee raam ||2||

Read the Ambrosial Words of the Lord, Har, Har; meeting with the Guru, the Lord is revealed. ||2||

ਮਧੁਸੂਦਨ ਹਰਿ ਮਾਧੋ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਾ ॥

madhhusoodhan har maadhho praanaa ||

The Lord, the Slayer of demons, is my breath of life.

ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਮੀਠ ਲਗਾਨਾ ॥

His Ambrosial Amrit is so sweet to my mind and body.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਹੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਸੋਈ ਰਾਮ ॥੩॥

har har dhaeiaa karahu gur maelahu purakh niranjan soee raam ||3||

O Lord, Har, Har, have mercy upon me, and lead me to meet the Guru, the immaculate Primal Being. ||3||

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ॥

har har naam sadhaa sukhadhaathaa ||

The Name of the Lord, Har, Har, is forever the Giver of peace.

ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ॥

har kai rang maeraa man raathaa ||

My mind is imbued with the Lord's Love.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮਹਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ਰਾਮ ॥੪॥੧॥੭॥

har har mehaa purakh gur maelahu gur naanak naam sukh hoee raam ||4||1||7||

O Lord Har, Har, lead me to meet the Guru, the Greatest Being;

through the Name of Guru Nanak, I have found peace. ||4||1||7||
