Dal Khalsa, Tat Khalsa Resolve To Boycott ‘badal Dal’

Holding the Badal family responsible for the December 5 police firing, some Sikh organisations today resolved to boycott the ‘‘Badal Dal’’ in all religious and political elections.

The organisations including Dal Khalsa, Delhi Gurdwara Dharam Prachar Committee, Tat Khalsa and several others said that Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal was an ‘‘enemy of Sikhs’’ and appealed to Sikhs not to vote for his group in any elections.

They demanded a CBI inquiry into the firing incident. Stating that only an independent agency could bring forth the truth, the panthic leaders said after the inquiry, they would knock at the doors of the Human Rights Commission, Prime Minister, the President and the United Nations.

Holding BJP MLA Harish Bedi a prime accused in the firing incidents, the panthic leaders said he incited the violence in Ludhiana. They resolved to continue with the struggle till Bedi, his son, Honey Bedi, and police officials resorting to firing were booked for the murder of Darshan Singh, a victim of police firing.

Without naming any organisations and leaders, the panthic leaders named them as ‘‘agents’’ of Badals, who were indulging in ‘‘anti-panthic’’ activities. They would boycot them and warned to name them in public if they did not stop their activities.

Interestingly, the leaders today thanked AICC spokesperson and Ludhiana MP Manish Tewari for taking up the matter in Parliament.

All these resolutions were passed during an ‘ardas diwas’ organised to pray for the health of radical Sikhs injured in the firing. Prominent panthic leaders present on the occasion included Bhai Ranjit Singh, former Jathedar of Akal Takhat, Bhai Satnam Singh Paonta Sahib of the Dal Khalsa, Bhai Tarsem Singh, chairman of Delhi Gurudwara Dharam Prachar Committee, RP Singh Chandigarh, Bhai Jarnail Singh of Tat Khalsa and Bhai Baljinder Singh Jindu.

Also, Sangat may want to note after numerous requests from the Panthic Jathebandhia and Sant Samaj, to hold only one united meeting yesterday, these groups did not listen in an attempt to disrupt unity. Jarnail Singh and his Tat Khalsa were in particular invited to share their views at a joint meeting, but they did not listen. As a result, in their own meeting in which was also present the principle of the missionary college, and others who go against Sree Dasam Granth Saahib, no hard or fixed stance/decision was taken apart from boycotting Badal and his Akali Dal. Very few people came to this meeting and only a few of their own likeminded Jathebandhia were present.

I was surprised by the fact that they actually mentioned Manish Tiwari by name.

While it's true that, according to various websites, the MP for Ludhiana brought up the violence in the Indian Parliament, in no way was he standing up for the Sikhs. Rather, the Congress party is taking the line that Badal mismanaged the affair and President's Rule should be imposed in Punjab. Also, they said everyone has the right to hold any samagam they want, which basically means a pro-Ashutosh statement.

I think what Tiwari and the Congress would have preferred would be to use even more force, put down the Sikhs for good, and have the Ashutosh samagam go on for the full 3 days.

Another smaller faction of Dal Khalsa in India must have attended the Tat Khalsa/Missionary College...etc meeting yesterday if it was not the mainstream one (as according to the news report above and others, some faction of Dal Khalsa in India did attend the second smaller split meeting, but must not have been the mainstream organisation - the media should make a differentiation of this).

The more core Panthic organisations that set-aside their personal issues and collectively come together on one platform, the better long-term (and short-term) outcome the Khalsa Panth can achieve.

They are having feet in two boats. Ludhiana gathering was Sarna sponsored and was a filure as few people attended.
