Defination Of Gurbani

hard to say in 1 or 2 lines the definition "gurbani" as there are tons of definitions given in sri guru granth sahib ji as to what gurbani is, and what gurbani does for a person, and for the world. but a pankti that gives an idea as to wat gurbani is as a whole and describes the big picture:

vwhu vwhu bwxI inrMkwr hY iqsu jyvfu Avru n koie ]

waho waho bani nirankaar hai, tis jevad avar na koe (ang 515)

bani is god, and there is nothing else like it.

Bani or Vani(in sanskrit) literally means "voice". Gurbani means "voice of the Guru"...though dass agrees there are many other arths of Gurbani.

Mohkam Singh ji, Guru Sahib also wrote numerous Hukamnamas to Sikhs in Kabul and other places. Still the panth doesn't considers them as Gurbani. It was also Bani(voice) which came from SatGuroo ji.

All writings of our Gurus are Gurbani. Our Gurus were one jyot.

You asked for a definition from Gurbani itself ... and then in your own definition made up your own sentances. You tell us what the definition of gurbani is, using gurbani.

This is the new argument being used to say that certain Gurbani within Dasam Granth Sahib Ji, is not Gurbani but is 'literature' which was being used by people like Darshan a few years ago.

I think we need to stop and remember that Sharda in Sikhi goes a long way. A life spent in sharda is better then a life spent questioning, arguing, fighting about whether Gurbani is Gurbani or not (especially if you get it wrong!!)

Id rather do ardas and say Maharajh I dont know anything about Gurbani to be able to say that this or that isnt written by you, so ill just do satkar as best I can, if im wrong then forgive me. For me this is better then saying, no no no this aint, that aint.

the paranoia some people in this forum have is unbelievable :o labeling someone as kalaafghana for just asking a genuine question. some people just can't stand anything which is not inline with their 'groups' mentality here :wacko:

bebiha ji, one thing about Gurbani is that it comes DIRECTLY from Sachkhand.(specific guns of Gurbani have been clearly been given in SGGS ji)dont quite have time now, will write a detailed post at a later time

As far as I know he has never said or believed in such thing. You are just making up your own story.

He use to call bani from SGGS as Gurbani. (because SGGS has Gurgadhi)

Sri DG Bani as Bani. As it is Guru Sahib's rachna.

The rest without SatGuroo are called Kachi Bani.

though god knows best what happened to him recently.

kala afghhana is the one who fabricated these theories what is gurbani.This thesis did not exist before him.

Everything that came form Guru's mouth is Gurbani.Sikhs ahd ten gurus.

No discussion on this point should be entertained by moderators as this proposition is anti Gurmat

and designed to confuse sikhs.

ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਹੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥

Vaahu vaahu baanee nirankaar hai tis jaevadd avar n koe ||

Waaho! Waaho! is the Bani, the Word, of the Formless Lord. There is no other as great as Bani.

Goojree Kee Vaar Guru Amar Das (ai ang 515 SGGS JI )

ਜੈਸੇ ਤਉ ਸਕਲ ਨਿਧਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਮੁੰਦ੍ਰ ਬਿਖੈ ਹੰਸ ਮਰਜੀਵਾ ਨਿਹਚੈ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦੁ ਪਾਵਹੀ ॥

Jaisae to sakal nidhh pooran samundra bikhai,hans marajeeva nihachai prasadh pavehee ||

As in ocean all materials are found but Hans definitely gets its prasad(suchche moti ) from the ocean,

ਜੈਸੇ ਪਰਬਤ ਹੀਰਾ ਮਾਨਕ ਪਾਰਸ ਸਿਧ ਖਨਵਾਰਾ ਖਨਿ ਜਗਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਵਹੀ ॥

Jsae parabath heera manak paras sidhha, khanavara khan jag pragattavehee ||

As in high mountains Diamonds, preciuos stones,Paras(phillosphers stone) etc are there,but only an established miner finds these things and reveals to the world.

ਜੈਸੇ ਬਨ ਬਿਖੈ ਮਲਿਆਗਰ ਸੌਧਾ ਕਪੂਰ ,ਸੋਧ ਕੈ ਸੁਬਾਸੀ ਸੁਬਾਸ ਬਿਹਸਾਵਹੀ ॥

Jaisae ban bikhai maliagar sondhha kapoora,sodhh kai subasee subas bihasavehee ||

As in forest Sandal,Camphor etc.are available but a perfumery expert man can distill them and

make available as good perfumes.

ਤੈਸੇ ਗੁਰਬਾਨੀ ਬਿਖੈ ਸਕਲ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਹੈ,ਜੋਈ ਜੋਈ ਖੋਜੈ ਸੋਈ ਸੋਈ ਨਿਪਜਾਵਹੀ ੪੬॥

Taisae gurabanee bikhai sakal padharathh hai,joee joee khojai soee soee nipajavehee ||

Similarly each and every thing of this world is available in Gurbani but only those who invent ( khoj )

can get them out of Gurbani.
