Help With Charity Work

Just some questions that came to mind, when thinking about charity work.

Basicially, you know when marathon runners run, they get sponsered, why do they get sponsor?

and like, if someone does charity walk, cycling etc. Why do they get sponsored?

Yeh, I know the money raised goes to the charity they are helping, but 'Why' do people sponsor them? :S

maybe coz their money is going to a good cause, like punh-daan. They think they are doing somthing gud for society. And helps cover costs of the charity events, such as setup, and organisation etc, first aid kits, etc etc.

Lets Say you do a charity event, walk, run, bike ride etc for Khalsa Aid, Oxfam etc. then the chosen charity will provide you with relevent clothing with their logos etc. They will need to know that you are actively fundraising and at least meet a minimum fundraising target , ie £2000 etc.
