Last time also Singhs played gatka at Indias got talent show ( and judge sajid made remark).

Today , for second time and in semi finals , they performed gatka .

It seems this time all judges have given positive vote , rest in hands of Indian public

( though I find it pretty ironic that Indians are now being asked to JUDGE a martial art which once saved them . We can't judge gatka . Its god given )

I just got the video

I saw the commercial for this over a month ago while I was in Punjab, the commercial showed the part where Saqib made his remark to entice the viewers into watching it. I didn't, however, watch it until i came back to the states on youtube. In my opinion the guy made a mistake and i'm sure he knew it, the only thing he could do was blindly cling onto what he originally said.

What I found very funny and sad was one of my relatives agreed with Saqib about what he said to justify his X. What's funny is that they would have probably changed their view after they saw the video and saw what the two bibis said...This just goes to show how the media can change everyone's view on a subject just by how they present it.

By the way, just to clarify, gatka is a presentable form of shastar vidhiya (knowledge of weapons) that the Guru jis and Singhs used back then. Gatka was the only allowed form by the British as shastar vidhiya was banned.

Gatka never saved anyone, it's a circus entertainment act to please crowds...definitely not a real warfare art. Why do people still insist on telling fairy tales...

Those sources are off, gatka means the use of a stick in sparring. It's a limited view, shastar vidhiya .

Regardless to his views, what he says about gatka is true. Look kat these three links:

Gatka was introduced after the British took over india, they banned the practice of shastar vidhiya entirely and allowed gatka because it was an extremely toned down version of shastar vidhiya.

Giddar Singh has a lot of views I don't agree with, but you can't deny the fact there's a clear distinction between shastar vidhiya and limited gatka.

None of these links are working.

but I don't deny the fact there's a clear distinction between shastar vidhiya and limited gatka. it's a part of shastar vidhiya.

But don't compare it with a juggler's show.

I do gatka as well, no way do I think it's anything close to a juggler's show. There's immense skill involved on different level in gatka...

I was just saying gatka wasn't what they had used back in the day. The links were from the Singh from the UK's site who teaches shaster vidhiya...Again, i don't agree with a lot of his views, but what he has to say regarding shastar vidhiya is pretty accurate imo.
