Sadh Sangat Jee - With so many issues around CWG and the mess being discussed through out the world and UK newspapers full with CWG news - I wonder whether -

(1). 1982 Asiad had no organisation mess?

OR

(2). DoorDarshan was controlled by Indira (Govt. Of India), and none of the mess was allowed to come outside?

OR

(3). The system was well managed and highly efficient in 1982 and the system has become inefficient in 2010 (28 years later) (I can't believe this is TRUE).

Things were done differently back in 1982, India as a state was run autocratically by Indra and her dynasty. I suppose all the corruption stayed in house and control/accountability may therefore have appeared to be greater. Also standards were lower 28 years ago. India is still living to the poorer standard/processes of 1982 and fail to see how more superiod their neighbours like China actually are.

In contrast 2010 Commonwealth Games are being pulled together by a huge number of agencies, contractors, middle-men who hire subcontractors, who pass it down to more agencies, who field it out to even more subcontractors, and with each link of the chain, palms are greased! Therefore the perception of control seems less in 2010 than 1982.

Also as mentioned above, the Media was completely controlled under Indra's regime and she knew how to look after the BBC and other non-Indian news agencies in India at the time. Hence the bais propganda and loyal chumchay like Mark Tully.

There is a big difference between Asian games and commonwealth games. Asian games are restricted to Asian countries whose level of tolerance is very high.

Level of expectations is low as well. You will be surprised that India was the starter of Asian games and first asian games were held in New delhi in 1958.

Commonwealth games is a different story where first world countries are also participants. So host has to provide a first world infra structure.

She was an autocrat and ran the country as a dictator back then. She will more than likely be written down by mainstream historians as a "strong lady" but if any intelligent person delayers her regime they will easily see she ran the state through intimidation and manipulation of the Indian people with out and out control over the economy and media.

Would this had been acceptable and tolerated even by Asian countries 28 years ago? I believe the pictures above don't present any acceptance even from a middle-class 3rd world resident.
