Celebrating Gurpurbs

I find it astonishing that Many Gurdwaras are celebrating Gurburbs on the "Nearest weekend" for the convenience of the sangat and their working patterns.

I think the main program, when all main Kirtani Jatha's are called should be on the Actual Gurpurb day, even if it falls on a working day.

Whilst I agree, it means the Kirtani Jatha's will be playing to nearly half-empty halls if the Gurpurabs are held during the week. However, in the Gurudwara I've frequented since childhood, the turnout during the week for occasions like Guru Nanak Dev Ji's Gurpurab, Bandi Chor, Vaisakhi, Guru Gobind Singh Ji's Gurpurab, the December Shaheedi events, etc., is still packed during the weekday as much as anything on the weekend. I guess its about the Shardaa of the sangat too.

Shouldn't matter if the hall is half empty. We have the halls nearly completely empty on the Gurpurb day, its disrespectful. No mosque will hold Eid prayers on the nearest weekend will they?

Works better for me. Gurdwara I goto regularly has it on the day, where as the second gurdwara in town has it on the nearest weekend but they do hold a program at night. So I get to attend both Akhand paths and celebrations

Too right! Gurpurabs should be celebrated on the day!!!

We dont celebrate days associated to us on a different day ie birthday, anniversary etc
