Hello Mr. Lehal

I hope you are doing well. I am an admirer of your work towards keeping Panjabi alive in this technical age.

What we need is a downloadable version of the excellent Panjabi-English/English-Panjabi dictionaries that Punjabi University, Patiala has published. I use the published dictionary quite frequently (when I haven't got online access). It would be nice to have a version that I can use on my laptop offline. I think you were involved in developing the brilliant online version (unless I am mistaken). Though I must say, it can be a bit slow at times. Any plans to develop a standalone version?

I haven't checked your link yet, so forgive my ignorance in advance, if such a tool has already been developed.

If you have the time and the inclination can you also let me know if the lexical database (of the online dictionary) is updated regularly when missing words are discovered? As a suggestion (and I hope you don't find me impertinent in this), it may be an idea to have some sort of contact point where people can pass on words they come across that aren't in the dictionary for whatever reason? So that it can be revised accordingly.

On a related note, I've been attempting to read some older Panjabi texts recently, like Suraj Prakash, I noticed some words that are not in the more modern dictionaries (which is understandable to an extent) or Mahan Kosh. I was wondering if any work was being done towards preserving more archaic vocabulary, before some of the older generation, who may have knowledge of their forms and usage, leave us?

Regards and God bless

Thanks for the appreciation.

Yes, I was the team leader in development of the Gurmukhi-Shahmukhi-English dictionary. We have now enhanced the speed of the online dictionary. Regarding offline version, there are certain issues involved due which it is delayed. Your suggestion regarding adding new words to the dictionary is good and incidentally we are also doing the same for the new version. Actually, we are now enhancing the dictionary to make a tool tip dictionary, which will display the meaning of any Punjabi word in English if we place the mouse on it.

You are most welcome to send me your suggestions in future too.
