There is a clear problem with the institutions in which we raise our kids, the media's sensationalism of fear to attract viewers and blind nationalism that desensitizes us from the rest of the world and from multiculturalism.

The opposite extreme to USA (in my opinion) is Great Britain that is too politically correct that gore are afraid of minorities. Take the pakistani grooming gangs for example and how the Scotland yard didn't acknowledge it happened up until it started to happen to gorian.
