is it appropriate to say "rituals"?

A more appropriate word would be ceremonies or traditions. Rituals have the connotation that they are hollow and done thinking that the act itself will grant the performer some favor. Ceremonies and traditions have a history and a philosophy behind them and the words themselves are more appropriate, as the significance is not lost.

Technically, ritual is correct, but the connotation behind the word is very negative. They could have chosen better wording.

I concur with ms514,"ceremonies or traditions" are more appropriate words.

Some Sikh families still use the word Pooja instead of SEWA.

We have strayed away from the path the Gurus had left us.
