Job description

The Gurdwara is currently looking to add to its religious staff.

The minimum salary will be £6.50 per hour with additional benefits to include accommodation and meals.

The role and duties:

1. Must be Amrit Dhari (initiated in to the Sikh faith)

2. Extensive Knowledge and understanding of the Sikh religion and Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji Will have completed the Giani Course and have studied the following areas: (1) Gurbani (2) Sikh History (3) Sikh Philosophy (4) Gurbani Kanth (5) Kirtan Theory (6) Kirtan Practical and (7) Discipline at an accredited academy.

3. Must be Gurmukhi Literate to recite the daily Sikh prayers from the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, singing hymns, saying prayers, conducting weekly diwans, preach Sikh religion to congregation and to deliver Akhand Paths sahib, Sahij paths,and Sukhmani Sahib paths from the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

5. Well versed in the Prakash Ritual awakening of Guru Granth Sahib Ji and the Hukum Nama command for the day from the Guru Granth Sahib Ji

6. Ability to perform marriage and engagement ceremonies, funerals and other religious ceremonies in accordance to the Sikh Maryada

7. Preparation of Degh (holy offering)

8. Must have ability to interpret doctrine, articles of faith for religions / organisation.

9. Provide spiritual and moral guidance and assistance to adults.

12. Must have a charismatic personality and be able to preach the Sikh religion to the congregation and engage members of all ages from all backgrounds; only persons that can demonstrate a good written and oral command of the English, Gurmukhi, Punjabi and Urdu languages will be considered for the role.
