Dhaul Daram Dia ka poot, Santokh thaap rakhia jin soot.

Je Ko Bujhai hovai sachiar.  Dhavalai upar keta bhaar.

The mythical bull is righteosness

the off spring of mercy

Which keeps the earth balanced

with the thread of patience

If one learns this, realises the truth.

How much is the load on that bull.

gurfateh jio

Vahgur Jee Ka Khalsa

Here is another translation:

DOlu Drmu dieAw kw pUqu ]

dhuul dhurum dhaeiaa kaa pooth

The mythical bull is Dharma, the son of compassion;

sMqoKu Qwip riKAw ijin sUiq ]

sunthokh thaap rakhiaa jin sooth

this is what patiently holds the earth in its place.

jy ko buJY hovY sicAwru ]

jae ko bujhai hovai sachiaar

One who understands this becomes truthful.

DvlY aupir kyqw Bwru ]

dhuvulai oupar kaethaa bhaar

What a great load there is on t

he bull!

DrqI horu prY horu horu ]

dhuruthee hor purai hor hor

So many worlds beyond this world-so very many!

iqs qy Bwru qlY kvxu joru ]

this thae bhaar thulai kuvun jor

What power holds them, and supports their weight?

*My* interpretation of this:

Some people used to believe that the entire world was held up on a bull's shoulders (and then some belived that it was on some elephants on some turtles swimming in a huge ocean or something). Anyways, I think what this means is that we believe that there is such a bull holding up our world, but infact it is waheguroo's laws of physics, his rules, his "dharma" that controls and holds up the world (ie: "what a great load there is on the bull [and there are] so many worlds beyond this world .. what power holds them and supports their weight?")

Answer: Waheguroo!

vwihgurU jI kw Kwlsw!

vwihgurU jI kI &iqh!!

agreed with the above explanations......

also another way to look at it, I think I heard this in the explanation of Japji sahib by Giani Sant Singh Maskin, or maybe somewhere else:

First you gotta have daya, then comes dharam. Cuz dharam is the son of daya so how can you have the son before the mother? get it  ?

In other words, how can you be a dharmi person if you don't have daya? You have to understand what it means to have daya, then you will learn what it means to have dharam.

another example of this is the punj pyare. First one was Daya, the second one was Dharam. Guru Gobind Singh's Khalsa would have the characteristic of daya first, then dharam, then the other 3 in their respective order...
