Chelsea dentist who threatened to pour bleach down his wife’s throat in their controlling and abusive marriage has been jailed for three years.

Dr Amandeep Goma, 39, rigged up the family home with cameras to monitor wife Sonia’s housework, threatened to slit her throat while criticising her mothering skills, and repeatedly struck her with household objects.

Goma monitored his wife’s text messages, kept a tight grip on her finances, and controlled the amount of interaction she had with her own children.

But Goma, who ran luxury dental clinics in Chelsea and Harley Street, was having an affair with a colleague behind his wife’s back. His wife eventually went to police in November last year, having endured escalating threats and violence during the first pandemic lockdown, and Goma’s lover, Nanki Kaur, also reported him for two violent assaults.

At Southwark crown court on December 2, Goma was jailed for two-and-a-half years by Judge Gregory Perrins, who said his abusive and controlling behaviour had been hidden “behind a veil of respectability”.

At Westminster magistrates court, Goma was jailed for a further six months for the attacks on Ms Kaur, including one where he tried to strangle her.

The court heard his Chelsea Dental Spa business is now likely to be sold in the wake of his convictions, while he is banned under restraining orders from contacting his now ex-wife and former lover.

Goma and his wife, who have two children together, had an arranged marriage in India in 2011 and initially lived with her parents in Manchester when they first moved to the UK.

Mrs Goma’s family were aware of problems in the marriage after they set up home in Earl’s Court, and Goma’s controlling nature intensified when the country went into lockdown in spring last year.

She told police how he had fitted cameras to keep track of her activities, and sometimes rushed home from work to confront her if he was unhappy.

Prosecutor Arizuna Asante said Goma “threatened to pour bleach down her throat” on March 24 last year when displeased with the standard of her cleaning. She reported being kicked, grabbed by the hair, and “repeatedly struck” by her husband, and on April 15 Goma “threatened to slit her throat”, the court heard.

Matters came to a head in November last year when Mrs Goma discovered her husband had been having an affair.
