KARACHI: Some 20 Sikh families, residents of Adam Khan Goth near Gulshan-e-Maymar, Karachi, on Thursday held a protest demonstration at the Karachi Press Club against atrocities by a local landlord and closure of their place of worship, Gurdawara Guru Nanak.

Carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the local landlord, Vadera Alam Khan, Sikh men, women and children chanted slogans against disconnecting electricity of their place of worship and threats being given to them for vacating their homes.

They demanded of the Sindh Governor, Chief Minister, Home Minister, IGP and other concerned authorities to take stock of the situation as in addition to threats by the local landlord, area police were also pressurizing them to vacate their homes and worship place.

Later, talking to newsmen, representatives of the affected Sikh community, Sardar Dhoni Singh and Sardar Krishan Singh, said the local landlord, Vadera Alam Khan, was trying to grab land of their Gurdawara and homes where they were living and forcing them to flee the Goth.

"He has also lodged a fake FIR against us and at his behest, local police are browbeating us and meting out threats to us" he charged, and demanded of the authorities to provide them

protection.
