Sikh university student advice

WJKK WJKF I started university in September 2016 and I am studying Medicine. I have not taken amrit but I believe I am on a good path with Sikhi. Before attending uni, I used to always do my paath in the morning and evening. At the start of uni, I did do my paath as usual. But as the year continued I started to not do it every day due to revising late and having to get up early in time for lectures. My timetable was busy and I was very tired trying to keep up with everything. Although I was attending Sikh society I started to feel as if I was slipping off the path I had worked hard to stay on. I feel as if my mind started to loose its focus on Sikhi and …

Sikh views wanted for national media

Some members on this board constantly complain of underrepresentation in the media - or how it is the "wrong sikhs" speaking out (like Sunny Hundal). So why don't you tell this national newspaper all about your lives in the UK? It's a libral paper, which Sunny has previously written for, but don't let that put you off. Here's the link. Try not to swear or slag off other races and religions, otherwise they won't publish it! https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/nov/25/what-is-your-experience-of-being-a-sikh-in-the-uk

Has anyone else heard of apne mainly north americans / canadians getting married in mexico or other beach or holiday destinations, what are your views as regards to the SGGS ji being taken to beach resorts for lavan ceremony is this beadbi and is maharaj ji being given full respect / satkar or have apne stooped even lower in there self conceit. As far as i can find out their is only one sikh organisation in mexico not even sure if it is a Gurdwara or a kundalini yoga group so are they responsible for SGGS ji being taken to beach resorts etc and if so are they just making money and if not how is SGGS ji being taken to these places and by whom. http://blog.shandrophoto.c…

I need help...my father passed away in March this year suddenly and as a family we are still in shock. As he was a carer for my mother, she in particular is finding it hard. As I've stepped in to look after her I'm trying my hardest to cheer her up in different ways. My fathers favourite colour was red and in a small attempt to cheer mum up I bought some really small earrings that's have red in them and said wear these when you think of him. My mum used to wear such colourful clothing and due to "reet revage" she now wears sombre clothing but she says can't wear these small earrings because its not according to the customs for widows in the Asian community. I really ne…

Sikh Without Jatha
by Guest singhqa- 1 reply

VJKK VJKF! I am new to Sikhi and do not have a 'jatha'. I understand there are various jathas that bless their sangat with Amrit, each with their interpretation of the rehat that the baptised should follow. For example, common difference include: Keski v Kes Some allow Amrit to be blessed on those without Amritdhari spouses Only consumption of food prepared by Amritdharis v not eating the 'leftovers' of non-amritdharis - the latter being not concerned with who prepared the food Consumption of tea / coffee v it being forbidden etc etc I have no jatha as mentioned below. In my opinion, giving your head to the Guru and adopting the prescribed rehat are the only things t…

I recently have been to a wedding at a Gudwara and was amazed to see so many Sikh women wearing the wrong type of clothing inside the Gudwara. I saw many women wearing low cut tops, sleeveless suits, sarees suits, low cut suits on the back, tight trouser suits and also when sitting in front of the Gurugranth Sahib their heads were not covered or half covered. I very much thought this to be extremely derogatory and a huge lack of respect to our Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Its not a fashion show to go to the gurdwara!! I wanted to know what are the sangats views on this and what can be better done to put sense into these people who do these things. Is this the modern Sikh…
