Vaheguru Ji, In my house, only me and my are amritdhari; other family members is my dad and friend who is living with us temporarily. So basically, I try to read as much gurbani as I can but my dad and friend think I'm crazy lol. Just because I don't get that involved in their worldly affairs, I'm less of a human being. Sometimes my ego kicks in and I missing my amritvela because I want to please my dad or friend by staying up late with them. I never missed nitnem with gurus kirpa and I want to keep it this way. So my question is how do I make them understand that Sikhi is important to me? How do I answer questions such as "you only have interest in Sikhi and that's …

by Guest PKaur- 3 replies

I met my husband while studying at college, we got married and have 2 beautiful children, my husband took his amrit last year on vasakhi, my son is a singh and my daughter knows what our religion is about. We go to gurdwara each week, constantly have the sikh chanel on in our house. A few people kept pressuring me to take amrit when my husband did which made me angry as I felt I should when im ready not because people are telling me to, this made me say to everyone that i will never to do. I told my husband that if it was right for him then he should do it and I will support him 100% which I have, it was hard at first for me to come to terms with, as his appearence change…

WAS THERE MYSELF, COUPLE SINGHS TURNED UP FROM OUTSIDE AND THEY WERE SWORN AT AND I SAW THREE OF THEM ASSAULTED WHAT IS GOING ON? WHERE WAS THE SANGAT? THE COMMITTEE I THINK IS EITHER SERIOUSLY MISGUIDED OR ARE BEING RUN OVER. AS A PANTH WE NEED TO TAKE ACTION AND THROUGH PYAAR EDUCATE THE SANGAT THAT THIS IS NOT GURMAT

Omnipotence Paradox

VJKK VJKF The omnipotence paradox goes like this: Can god create a rock he cannot lift? If you answer yes, god is not omnipotent because god will not be able to lift the rock If you answer no, god is not omnipotent because god can’t create that rock. I have one possible answer and that is that it is unknowable. But this is not a satisfactory answer to this question. My question is, any solutions to this sangat ji? VJKK VJKF

Community Center?
by Guest anon- 2 replies

We have a gurdawara and and it was granted some money to build a community center, this center is attached to the gurdawara by a hallway but is certainty capable of be a freestanding building, should children be allowed to do bhangra, gidha in this structure or not. when donations for the building were being collected they were specifically for the building, the gurdawara didn't give money from "its own pocket" to pay for it but rather asked for donations to the new hall, Opinions? Thoughts?

My mum got a card from the family and the party is next week. My uncle is part of the commitee and said that they havwe planned to lie to everyone who rings them and tell them that they dont do any anti sikh activity. I heard my mum talknig to him when i got home from school. I told my mum not to go to the party but she wont listen. She told me that Grays sikhs decide there own sikhi and dont need outsiders or little kids telling them wats right and wrong. I felt sorry for the brothers who came to the stupid vote meeting. they got harrassed for no reason man. it was wrong. i will try be there.

Cutting hair and migraines
by Guest Conflicted- 3 replies

I suffer from migraines and they can be set off by pressure on my head via tying hair up and leaving it loose isn’t an option since my hair is very fine and sticks to my face, and since I was combine skin and acne rosacea it aggravates it a lot so my face just gets uncomfortably hot and flares up bright red. I’m limited to hairstyles and often tie it up in a pony tail and plait at home. I cut my hair in September last year to mid neck and I felt amazing. I could just hop in the bath and not worry about anything lol. I’m just a bit stuck really because I want to leave my hair as in not cut it but I’m conflicted since it was so much easier to have it short. It’s currenly up…

What do you think of Sikh parents who try to portray the illusion that their family are devout religious Sikhs but are only maintaining that illusion so they look good in the community?
