  1. I believe that Katha should be limited as it is very dangerous play when novice or bad person starts mixing his own manmat views in it. Why we should we listen or follow the advice or views of the person who is on the stage? We don't know who he is and what views he got. Taksali style katha is ok where a person keeps their own views on control and they do have another person right next to them reading bani every other line. Too many people from india are entering in katha field as it is easy to get in and make quick money. I believe that there should limit to this.

  2. A lot of dhal, but mostly dairy products - milk, cheese/paneer, whey powder and yoghurt. I think that protein from animal sources is just easier for the human body to assimilate. I started lifting exactly two years ago and became a vegetarian about 5 months into my programme. I was pretty much clueless about nutrition at the time, and I was horrified when all my noob gains started vanishing. So I looked some things up on the internet, learned that dairy was probably a better source of protein than the saag and dhal which had been my staples since becoming veggie, and made the appropriate changes to my diet immediately. Most of my old mass returned very quickly - could probably be attributed to muscle memory. Also helped to have a couple more protein shakes.

  6. I was leaning towards people's perceptions of the divine being affected by such claims, as opposed to the Big Guy being slighted by us mortals.

  9. Do you live in the Punjab? Some urban Punjabis have a reputation for directing their sneering contempt at those of us with rural backgrounds. I'm also surprised that you've encountered so many amritdharis among them - In my experience, many of them are full of self-loathing, the first to shun all trappings of their faith and Punjabiyaat in order to ingratiate themselves into the wider Indian Hindi-speaking mainstream. No, they are not right. Just ignore them brother. Who cares what they think of you? It is only for Guru Sahib to say whether your faith in them is genuine. I myself used to be a mona and was confronted with this sort of nonsense by other Sikhs. I told them that whereas they had been born into Gursikh households and had Sikhi handed to them on a platter, I had to struggle against the wishes and expectations of my family and those closest to me to find it, to fight against all their bullying and their blackmail. I told them I had to fight for my Sikhi, make sacrifices for it. That would promptly shut them up. Try it for yourself.

  10. Make it relevant to people's lives. End of the day the gurdwara should be a place to recharge the spiritual battery and meet fellow Sikhs but how many gurdwaray are like that these days? And the commitee's that look after them should be serving the needs of the sangat and not serving the needs of their bank account or their own friends and family. Sahejdhari / mona Sikhs make up 80% of the sikh population yet these people are not even catered for in the gurdwara hence they only come 1-4 times a year during a wedding, vaisakhi or guru nanak birthday gurpurb or new years day. So gurdwara needs to be centered around their needs more as for new comers into Sikhi like recent converts there is no facility for them. Many westerners are interested in becoming a Sikh but have no idea what to do or have a community to welcome them. What kinda of impression must they get? Sikhi more like a secret society or a race than a religion.

  11. This "censor everything I don't like" mentality that a lot of Sikhs have should stop. Either grow a thicker skin or debate them. Crying about it looks pathetic and only encourages people to post more controversial material because they know it makes some people angry.

Abusive and inactive accounts may be removed at moderators consent without any prior notice, to reduce database load. OTHER RULES ==================== BRINKERS = NOT ALLOWED I'm within the rules. Some users find sport in seeing how close they can get to being thrown off a message board. The Admins/sewadars will often have a set of rules (typically known as the "Terms of Service" like this one) which specify how people should conduct themselves. One type of poster, a "brinker", attempts to get as near to the edge as he or she possibly can without actually going over. Unlike the troll, who directs his or her efforts at the users of a system, the brinker is actually toying with the SikhSangat. He or she can be a thorn in the side of the administrator, holding the good name and popularity of the system at stake. Administrators hesitate to throw people off the system unless they have broken an explicit rule. LANGUAGE Although we do our best to cater for all, we do have certain limitations on SikhSangat. Language is one of them because you will notice the vast majority of posts are in English which has a universal base as it is one of the most used languages in the world. Communication is a problem in this world. It is one of the main causes for World Wars and poverty as well as in divorces and so on. And having taken these points into consideration, SikhSangat would like to request to all Sangat to please use English language to your advantage and post on this forum with language that every other member can understand. We all use slang language in our day to day speaking, but the advantage of this being a forum, means you can think longer about what you want to say with more time to express it. Extreme use of slang language is confusing to many members on this forum and will no longer be tolerated by moderators. Members can use Punjabi language in their posts. We will allow slang to a certain extent but SikhSangat reserve the right to choose the level allowed and will from hereon be moderating certain members more closely. ADVERTISING We do not allow people to post threads or to send private messages or emails to users here that advertise or solicit any services. Explicit advertising in sigs is also prohibited. Advertising, spamming and trolling is not allowed. This includes using the forum email and Private message system to spam other members. There is SikhSangat Advertisement program which can be seen here: http://sikhsangat.com/adverts SIGNATURE RULES Links in signatures must follow these guidelines: A link and promotional text for a site that is not commercial provided the site is not against Sikhi or does not violate SikhSangat community standards.
