  1. I would come home with a report card and get 97% in a class and mommy dearest would say: "baki dey thin percent kithay gey?"
  2. use a hot water bottle, it works wonders. also, avoid cold drinks, stick to room temp or warm.
  3. This "Gurdwara" has been aroundfor years...its common knowledge as to what goes on or as far as i remember it is. I don't remember if thingswere done to protest in the past...
  4. Amardeep Singh - Great reply Singh, its fairly obvious you don't have much information on Jakara  . Thats ok, generally speaking most individuals against it don't. first things first - jakara.org Go there and read it in detail. You'll realize that - the cost is now $110 (i believe it was 90 when it started and then 100 the years after that). In that $110 you get three nights stay at a hotel, all meals paid for except one, rides to and from airports if need and of course all the events. Second, as you'll see posted on the Jakara/gt road radio forum (in reply to your post(s)) there, there have been several other keynote speakers that are good speakers as per your standards. Last year it was NOT Monita Rajpal, but was Pardeep Singh Nagra - a Canadian boxer who did face many struggles...you may read up on him yourself to see what it is that he's accomplished. They are not making money on this. At all. As for the speakers, as mentioned by Amardeep, Tigerstyles is/has put out a album as a tribute to 1984, they infact have worked with BOSS (which is an organization you seem to admire). Furthermore, in terms of Jakara and its staff. Come attend Jakara, see what its about, its improving every year...if after that you have suggestions, suggest it to the staff, they are more than open to it. Your points would be given more credit and validity if you had in fact experience the conference (not camp) and then suggested your changes. I do have a question for you d o you feel as though there are in the wrong for having the lazer tag, picnic and bowling available? Are those prohibited as well as the dancing, or just the dancing? In terms of the dancing it is a talent show, and it isn't just a party covered by a talent show...ppl do present their talent and its awesome. Once again. Come attend...see waht its about .... and then give your criticism, but still i'm sure the staff will take your opinion into consideration =)
  5. would all of you have been this outraged if the were attacking any other race? or are we only outraged when it applies to us. What if they were making fun of Jews or african or americans...and by the way...personally I think it was insulting to arabs and not sikhs...b/c technically the blame is still being placed on all arabs in general... we all got selfish and only saw what was there about us... this really isn't what sikhi is about. the fact that it took me so long to notice the injustice towards arabs is what makes me sick...
  6. Anon I'm well aware of what went on after 9/11..do you understand that snl is taped in NYC...those people, amongst many sikhs, experienced the affects of 9/11...THEY can joke about their city being bombed... THE joke was actually reflecting reality...where people mistake SIkhs for terrorists and they actually are not. I'm not saying it was the best way of protraying the message or trying to belittle the fight for justice on behalf of sikhs, but its not completely false either. Situations such as those did take (obviously they werent loaded with comedic tone).
  7. Ok I can understand how it can be offensive...BUT at the same time...generally speaking...when something or someone is popular...it makes it to SNL...some ppl take it as a compliment to be spoofed on SNL b/c it means that they are well known enough for SNL to mention it.... I mean...someone made a comment about nuns and the pope..how does that make us differend from them then? we all laughed at what the person said..its the same thing...if we can make a joke lets learn how to take one.
  8. I think there is still Asa Di // at Al Hambra gurdwara on Sundays starting about eightish...how you ending up in OXNARD?!?!?!
  9. Hum nahi changay bura nahi koey... We are all sitting here pointing out what is wrong with these people. First of all as mentioned above, these "pictures" have absolutely nothing to do with sikhi and hold no meaning. We do not believe in Idol worship. For the indvidual listening to sukhmani sahib...at least he's listening...i mean i'm not saying one shouldn't treat gurbani with respect, but he's doing something good...maybe not perfect...but good. you know? the possiblities are endless...him being a butcher is his honest living, it could be helping him from avoiding to other means to make money. its aidin ghim in being honest.
  10. SOGGS PErsonally i think each individual has a different way of learning, you believe that a person shouldn't go to SGGS first but other sources, i however completely disagree. I think thats the first place theys houdl go to....this is our guru, our guide, our leader (and when i say this i mean the baani on the pages of SGGS not the pages itself). This leads me to the fact that reading the words online or in pothiyan is the same as reading them from SGGS. Bani is bani. IT doesn't change based on ways of reading it. SIkhi is not about restrictions, its about discipline, and the discpline is maintained when in formal congregation ti should be one that does not commit kuraits AND a amritdhari...I personally think to preach to the sangat, simply being amrit dhari is not enough, but thats a whole other discussion.
  11. lik eit or not this institution is the Sikh voice on A LOT of desicions...being more proactive is our panthic duty, simply ignoring and chosing not to be involved is a cop out.
  12. I am just completely and utterly shocked ppl are actually telling others NOT to do simran That is one of the major themes of gurbani...wow...just amazed. the next time anybody complains about why ppl are so against traditional sikhi, i'd like to remind them of what was said here.
  13. There's nothing wrong with having feelings for another person. That is a beautiful part of Akah Purkh's world. However, if these feelings distract you from your spiritual path and take you away from it rather than making it stronger, than one might want to reassess what is important to them. Loving someone, respecting them, it helps you understand how your love for Waheguru is different, how his love for you is different. Every relationship is there to help you somehow. Its a learning experience. Just be sure to be aware of your actions, thoughts and yourself.
  14. HOw is amrit dharis having a monopoly on god any different than the Brahmans being a higher caste in hinduism? Like many have mentioned above naam is for everyone. Its just saddenning that someone would actually discourage someone like that. THen we wonder why our quam is headed where it is. I respect the institution of amrit highly, however to say someones simran doesn't count? why is anyone even counting? Do it with no expectations and simply for the love of Akal Purkh. If we have pre-determined expectations then it defeats the purpose.
  15. Wow. After reading this article I expected some sort of not sympathy, but outrage at least. It doesn't matter WHERE THE HELL HE'S GOING, he should not be discriminated against. Why are you all so prejudiced? It doesn't matter who it is, what they 're doing, an injustice is an injustice. For so-called "sikhs" you have pretty narrow-minded thought proccesses. And by the way, it isn't nescecarry to go to a club to get drunk, he could just be going to hang out with friends...people do do that. and now....lets have you all tell me why i'm wrong and why i'm the worst sikh born =)
