  1. 15 minutes?! Bas?!?! And what happens if you find out once you are engaged that she previously dated when in school, will you feel kind of ripped off that you only got to spend 15 minutes getting to know her meanwhile some other person got to go out with her for X number of months/year whatever? I guess it's okay if this is completely arranged, however just be prepared and figure out your expectations on how you might handle finding out things about the person you might not want to hear.
  2. Why actually bother helping our kaum, when instead we can bicker about 'who is sikh' and have beard measuring competitions to prove whose more 'sikh' than the other?? Why bother actually helping the victims of the attack and using the gurdwara funding on them, when instead we can simply use the riots as a political tool to fire up rallies for Khalistan and give money too the loud-mouth corrupt committee blowhards?? Why actually help the victims of the riots when instead we can further divide our community into non-amritdhari and amritdhari groups?! I think our time/money/effort is much better spent on ego-driven political in-fighting than it would be to actually help the victims of the attack that anger the right-wing fundamentalist types in our religion.
  3. It was right in the same way that mughals thought "it was right" to kill Sikhs and Hindus a few centuries ago, anyone that thinks this act was "right", has pretty much gone full circle from being a Guru Ka Sikh, to exactly what the Guru's stood up against.

  5. Gurdawaras are where the Guru Granth Sahib Ji Resides. Did the Gurus not talk about social and political issues...............does the phrase Miri Piri mean anything to you ?? Do the terms Gurdwara and Takhat mean anything to you?!?! Sikhiwiki was correct, the Guru's DID seperate politics and religion, Guru Ghar was meant for spiritual enlightenment and Thakhats for political discourse, unfortunately they have merged since Sikhs have lost the plot, I find it hilarious even today that great Western countries are fighting the constant battle of Church and State whereas the Guru Jis had such foresight centuries ago.
  6. Hey all, just thought I would post here for some ideas, I'm getting a Rhodesian Ridgeback and was pondering some names for it, currently I'm thinking something along the lines of "Bunty", "Bittu", or "Juggi", but I'm not entire sold on any of them, any other ideas?
  7. Not sure if I'm posting in the right section however I am looking for an article I read on Sikh Sangat in regards to a Scottish/American journalist who was trying to shed more international light on the Sikh plight in Punjab after she was beaten by Indian police while there because she was getting a bit too nosey about what was happening in Punjab, so they hired thugs to "teach her a lesson", does anyone know where this article is? Would be much appreciated.
  8. If he was intoxicated and un-armed why would a "brave" Sikh have to take out a weapon and potentially kill the person? Why couldn't they have simply laid a solid series of thapardhs on him so that he wouldn't return?! It seems rather extreme to raise a sword when a simple beating and kick to back to have them exit would have sufficed.
  9. I find it amusing that some Sikhs completely misunderstood the entire philosophy of "Khalistan" and have since simply make it a tiny little area within a map, and somehow that will solve all injustices that have happened to the faith. Newsflash, if such a puny joke of a map layout to display "Khalistan" ever happened, how long before Sikhs started fighting amongst themselves for power, before there would be a ban on haircutting, girls wearing jeans, pop music etc. etc. It would be like going from one dictatorship to another, however this time with the ruling fists using religion as there tool.
  10. LOL! Yah, try going back to a Gurmukh life and see how much these "friends" stand by you, they're there but it's currently fun and convenient that you're around. You got yourself in a little bit of trouble due to bad judgement, and you came to a Gurmat board to seek advice, thats all the proof you need.
  11. Sadly some of the drivel that is on that hate filled site has shades of some things I've read by the holier-than-thou types on this forum here.
  12. Who knows for certain if there were 'hindus' at this mingle or simply monas and thats what's gotten the original posters kachaa in a knot, either way, it's good the Gurdwara is showing some initiative in helping to guide Sikh youth towards staying within the community, instead of sitting on the benches (or message boards) and just angrily decrying any type of attempts others make, without doing anything themselves.
  13. If my sister was to ever consider marrying a Hindu and would therefore be worried that I would "bash up" the priest and go fanatical about the entire thing, it would be pretty obvious why she wants to leave the life of a "Sikh" household and move to more tolerant pastures, again, as I stated in my post on the second page, anyone who applauds such behaviour needs psychotherapy.
  14. http://www.thestar.com/News/GTA/article/636064
  15. Anyone applauding this behaviour is warped, just as warped as all the parties in this unfortunate incident. You talk about dastars being in mittee?! Your condoning of this type of rubbish leaves ALL of our dastars in mittee, but I shouldn't be shocked, fundamental zealots with a warped sense of thinking come to religion like a moth to a flame, happens in every faith, and obviously there are more than a few nutcases in Guru Ji's saroop on this forum.
  16. Confusingh I agree with you, however it will always be human nature for the uneducated to mask their inferiority by draping themselves with their remedial understanding of organized religion. It happens in every faith, the bible-belt in the United States has some of the most low IQ hillbillies you'll ever meet in your life, but they think they're superior to the educated North because "Jesus is on their side", with Muslims it's pretty evident that the faith has been hijacked by the Taliban, and Sikhs no doubt know all about low-rung right wing Hindu fanaticism. To think that our community is somehow immune would be as ignorant as those you speak against. I also find the lack of many of the artistic aspects of Guru's gift being tossed to the side quite depressing. The lack of studying music, and raag (the raag of which was so important Guru Ji begins with it in every shabad), simply being ignored, and having just a vaja and tabla bang away with rudimentary skill since these committees don't have the teachers themselves to provide the knowledge. What happened to the classical instruments?! Although you say it's Talibinisation, I think it's more everything has been so simplified as to appease those who don't fully understand the religion, have an inferiority complex, and therefore drape themselves in all the garments of Sikhi so they can bully everyone, but really have only a simple understanding of everything. It's like a saying a Christian friend once told me about fake religious types, you can strap a white collar around a donkey, but that doesn't make it no priest.
  17. We've gone from great Sikhs such as Bhai Khaniya Ji giving water, and then first aid to the wounded regardless of being Sikh or Mughal with Guru Ji's blessing, to this sort of knitpicking of a very ill person who seeks help of his own community. It's depressing sometimes how mightily we've fallen, and completely lost the plot.
  18. Just got me thinking the last Sikh Raj, Maharaja Ranjit Singh had too much respect for Khalistan as to contain it with borders (but that's a whole other topic), but could a secular nation of Punjab be a viable option for Punjabis, Sikhs, Hindus and Muslims under secular law with seperation of temple and state as it was under Majaraja's rule, or would religious elements and division turn everything into chaos (again)? Pre-Partition Punjab
  19. Agreed 100%, I highly doubt Guru would ask his Sikhs to give someone with obvious mental health issues a thrashing because of such an incident, and the ones condoning such anger fueled vengeance have completely lost the plot of Guru's teachings.
  20. I'm sorry but this made me laugh out loud. Where did you hear this story?! Do you actually think such knowledgeable souls have had a "who can meditate the longest" competition?!?! Because obviously both of them are so egotistical as to have such a "showdown" <_< Are you JOKING?!?! You obviously have a lot to learn.
  21. How on earth is this 'besti'?!?! People really need to chill out, yes, Sikhs CAN be nerds, so what?!
  22. Couple things, was this in fact a Gurdwara Election meeting? Or simply a community meeting of the Ramgharias? Also secondly, if they were not in a Gurughar, are you sure they actually would refer to alcohol and meat as "Langar"?! Was this confirmed by anyone?

    Dreams

Sounds like you're having an episode of Sleep Paralysis, quite a common phenomenon, here's some information on it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_paralysis
  24. If it was listed as an ingredient of a baked good, then regardless of whether it has any alcohol content is irrelevant since its a cooked food product the alcohol (if there is any at all) would burn off in the process.
