  1. I admit poems sometimes piss me off...especially when they don't rhyme... it's jus not my thing!
  2. have you trieed asking it very very nicely?
  3. well we do the same thing we call them "muslims" and "hindus" when they may or may not be following the principles. and we can't rely on "education" because it would be propagandistic...Hindu A might say something different from Hindu B who might say something different from Hindu C in terms of principles... same ways for muslims. so why don't we say the right terms when we talk about "hindus" and "muslims"?
  4. you can nominate them by emailing unitedsikhs
  5. talikhaak ji makes a good point, i should renege my comment. for those who WANT to be inspired, stuff like lectures/kathas are definitely positive. i guess it depends on the type of person you're trying to reach out to
  6. whoa... that's a lil big for a first outreach? don't get carried away, you're not gnona change the world overnight. plus the more and bigger events you do, the less that others will be motivated to carry on ni their own cmomunities. they'll jus think "let those guys do it" focus in your communities, hell, i'm sure your local gurdwara has more than enough people you could "work on". why go to wonderland, cne, ontario place, marineland, or whatever? if you live in mississauga, there's PLENTY of people there who don't have a clue. same goes for brampton, same goes for subruban ottawa, suburban montreal, and subruban new jersey. Surrey's not quite heaven-on-earth either, with respect to the amount of people who've turned away from Sikhi. what's your goal in doing parchar? inspiring "apostate" sikhs to come back? or inspiring others in the already-sikh community to wanna do their part? there's a fine line between the two.
  7. the mormon community does a wicked job at attracting youth to their churches. i have a friend who was telling me of all sorts of things.. the biggest one is having youth dances (which obnvviously wouldn`t work for our community) and it's also their most successful initiative... it's a clean atmosphere, but teenagers are usually down to have an excuse to hang out at a dance and try to uhh.."pick up" but what ends up happening is that some of these non-committed teenagers make friendships with people inside the church, who then teach them spiritual-based things..and it sprouts from there. i know that in toronto, jaspaul singh's wicked at getting people out weekly to play hockey, so there's a bunch of singhs and non-singhs who get together and play hockey together..thingsl ike that are important..if that can be extended to include a group dinner every other week or something where everyone can hang out... that's the secret. the key is building relationships outside of sikhi and spirituality... people that have left sikhi have left it for a reason, and they've made that choice... they do NOT want to be coerced back into it, they do NOT wana be preached to... and that's usually the fear they have of retaining sikh friends...that they're just gonna get preached to all the time... the best way of doing parchar is by not doing parchar,... or to rephrase, the best way to do parchar is to not intend on donig parchar... lectures don't appeal to people... people need interaction. people need companioinship.. people need person-to-person relationships.... in relation tothe majority, there's probably very few souls out there who get isnpired only by naam/keertan/bani, few souls who get inspired by lectures/vichaars/camps... and probably more who get inspired cuz of a friend... no i don't have stats, but human nature would suggest that to be true, and gurbani backs it up that only the luckiest of the lucky get inspired by naam. sometimes it takes other activities/initiatives to get people INTO it... before they actually create a relationship with baani.
  8. i think that's sant ji's bare bare bare bare barest minimum. anything more is kamayee, type.
  9. a) i don't dance b) i take the akirtghan stance, and say if someone else wants to, i don't care. I don't do it at receptions or whatever, but i love others doing it cuz it at least brings some khushi... and for those people that think that "every song is horrible", you're living in a world of ignorance, and your judgement of dancers is equal to any person who insults without any knowlege on the matter like i said.. i don't dance.. i used to in high school.. and then i decided it wasn't a productive thing for me in my jeevan. That's MY choice, not a blanket statement. but...here's a shabad, and i'm gona post the link, cuz almost every line makes a reference to a dance... now obviously, it's a stretch, it's talking about a devotional dance, but here you go. http://www.sikhitothemax.com/page.asp?ShabadID=1478
  10. I admit i never thought that this thread was actually gonna succeed!
  11. oh shoot you know what? i have to walk my dog at 830 that morning, and i can't let anyone else do it...he bites...but not me...and so.. yeah can't make it! sorry!
  12. can i come too? i will need a ride arranged for me, however.
  13. memorizing is strong.... do ardaas as soon as you feel comfortable and can do it ik mann ik chit naal.... ardaas is just as ipmortant as the baani itself, in my opinion anyways. if you feel you can achieve that by doing a silent ardass in your thoughts, then do that..if you feel the need to do it on your own with a voice, then wait for the right time to do it.
  14. haha, well i can't tell if you're serious or being sarcastic and funny.... but i think there's more pressing matters to worry about than numbers, which is why i specifically talked about 96 crore. Considering that that is the topic at hand, i didn't expect people to take it as a blanket statement and assign it to all things and all situations as you did!
  15. if Guru Maharaj supposedly said we`re gonna be 96 crore...why`re we so worried and caught up in numbers... we`ll grow when we grow.
  16. i laughed in a sad kind of way when i read a news headline that UK Kids Helpline is getting ready in case Harry dies in the book... makes you think a) what a great author she must be b) what a sad lot of kids must be livin in the U.K c) you UKers don't have enough activities for kids to get lost in d) I can't wait to read it  hehehe friend of mine made me read them... i had been refusing for 6 years, and finally cracked last month... read the first four within a week haha...the fifth one was a bit too long, didn't realy enjoy it, but #6 was fantastic...so waitin for 7.. not gonna buy it though..probably jus borrow it from someone in a week or two
  17. Teen Taal Dhagay Titkut Dhinna Ginna Dhagay Titkut Dhinna Ginna Takay Titkut Tinna Kinna Dhagay Titkut Dhinna Ginna Dhagay Titt Dhagay Titt, Dhagay Titikut Dhinna Ginna Takay Titt Takay Titt, Takay Titikut Dhinna Ginna (notice that it finishes with "dhinna ginna") How about a fast roopak beat? Dhagay naati titikut, dhaagay naati nakay dhina
  18. well jaap saahib talks about the many Gunns of Parbraham, of which "Anaam" is one...which implies "without name"? i'm just taking a stab in the dark here..my comprehension of dasam baani is laughable... so i could be not taking it in the right context. plus, a shi'a friend i used to work with used to insist that god was nameless for muslims... didn't know that there was actually 99 names
  19. hehe..for jokes i find the article abuot "God" particularly funny hahah.. and Bill, son of God, Jesus's suppose "half brother" haha
  20. just visited bhajneet's profile and saw this one.. totally agree amritvela isn't the morning hours amritvela is the Vela that is Amrit...any Immortal Instant and how is an instant made immortal? as smartsingh insinuated...naam baani, for sure, but importantly, naam baani when your mind is at calm... jadon mann tikkda, and you can really vibrate with simran and stuffs.
  21. TOTALLY agree Bhajneet!!!!! was gnona post the same thing, but you said it wayyyyy bettterrrr. If you can't inspire yourself, then you likely won't be inspired by others, nor will you be able to inspire others yourself! No spark = no potential for fire.... you can't start a fire under just any circumstances...it's gotta be dry(your own self must be ready and willing), there must be a source that's already lit (you must be willing to allow the outside to inspire), and most importantly there must be oxygen (ofcourse...the entity that allows the transfer of energy to occur from the match to the dry item)
  22. in response JKaur89. it's ultimately up to you, i'm not gonna convince you one way or another. I'm also not gonna ask you for your survey results when you said "many people don't know this information is not true"....considering right at the top of each article is a brief sentence that pokes fun at the severe LACK of fact in each article. i'll be honest, it takes a serious doofus to misconstrue that article as truth...did you read it? the 6th "k" is Kiwifruit... you REALLY think that someone wo's read the whole article and the spiritual nature (which they actually somewhat address) of the other 5 k's is gonna believe that the 6th k is kiwifruit? regardless, it's up to you, I'm just saying pick a better batle to fight. if you wanna do this one, all the power to you, and good luck!
  23. you guys the POINT of that website is to NOT be factual, to make things AS EXTREME and AS RIDICULUOS as possible if you put REAL information onthere, when people read it, they'll think the REAL stuff is a joke... really guys, you REALLY think there's people out there who go to a website called "UNCYCLOPEDIA" with the slogan "the content-fere encyclopedia" people go there to laugh, knowing (or thinking anyways) that everything there is non-factual and unreal....... it's almost a DISSERVICE ot put accurate and proper information on there.... so please... chill
  24. am i missing something? where's the arth and i believe that "aaj moray aaey hain" comes more than once... i might be wrong... but there's oneline that goes pavan pavitr mitr aaj morey aaey hain, but i think there's another one too
