  1. Wowww! I never knew the founder of Hollywood Wax Museum was a Singh! Chardhi Kalaah... -------- LOS ANGELES - Spoony Singh, who once said he founded the world famous Hollywood Wax Museum to give tourists who couldn't find any real celebrities in Hollywood the next best thing, has died. He was 83. Singh died Wednesday at his Malibu home of congestive heart failure, his family announced Friday. It was while touring Hollywood looking for famous faces in 1964 that Singh thought of the museum. The closest he came to spotting a celebrity was seeing stars' footprints in the courtyard of Grauman's Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard. "So, I thought, let's bring the stars back to Hollywood Boulevard. Let's allow people to get close and look into the eyes of their favorite entertainers," he recalled years later. "Believe me, I didn't know if it would even work." People lined up for half a mile waiting to get in when the museum opened on Feb. 26, 1965. The nearly 200 figures of Hollywood stars have changed over the years as their fame has ebbed and flowed. Marilyn Monroe, however, has remained a perennial favorite. Singh, who handed over day-to-day operation of the museum to family members in 1990, shrugged off critics who called the museum cheesy over the years. "Look, I know other museums are more stately and artistic," he told the Los Angeles Times in 1970. "But on Hollywood Boulevard, dignity kind of gets lost in the shuffle." Singh helped develop the Hollywood Guinness World Records Museum, which opened in 1991, and another Hollywood Wax Museum, which opened in Branson, Mo., in 1996. Singh was born in Punjab, India, in 1922, and moved to Canada with his family at age 3. He operated saw mills and an amusement park in Victoria, British Columbia, when he paid his fateful 1964 visit to Hollywood. Singh, whose given name was Spoony Singh Sundher, is survived by his wife of 63 years, Chanchil, six children and 11 grandchildren.

  10. sorry but can i plz ask u abt wot to SHUKRANA abt this news or topic? When such an amazing GurSikh who has done so much for the Khalsa panth leaves for his righteous home and merges with the True Guru, we have to be happy for them. Sad for us, yes, for we have lost such an amazing figure. But i remember meeting him a month ago only, and he was looking very frail and it did prepare me for some news i guessed i would hear of him soon. And i got the call this afternoon and was very very saddened to hear it. But "shukrana" hai uss Malak da, jis ne sanu aise GurSikh parchaarik peje san iss duniya te... we are very greatful for to Maharaj for blessing us with such amazing parchaaraks in the first place...
  11. lol Its very... unique. APDF, I am sure people must have it as their desktop background seeing as it was so fantastically brilliant... (!)
  12. Beautiful. Very True. Have to admit, even NOW i dont realise the true worth of my Mother - how much she has done, does and will do for me. I have it easier than most people, that my mom is really really devoted to Sikhi and i recently realised that if i ever want to gain mukhti, it will be through her - doing her seva, and treating her like my Guru, which she is.
  13. I believe people who are GurSikhs do go Gurdwara every day, either morning or evening. When people titled as Sants or Baba come, those GurSikhs attend along with people who are not GurSikhs and do not regularily attend the Gurdwara - therefore, we do need parchaaraks who are highly renowned throughout the world, to come to our Gurdwaras and bring in "thousands" because they will bring in a lot of non-GurSikhs. Maharaj has given us all a gift - a gift of individuality, therefore not everyone will be Gurmat minded and attend Gurdwara on a regular basis. Such parchaariks classes as saints will bring them in though and maybe, just maybe, it can be the start of a new, Gurmat orientated life for them...? Forgive my mistakes
  14. Amrit sanchaars held every first Sunday after sangraand.
  15. In the same respect, if i was to sell you a CD for £100 (lets say), you will treat it better and have more more respect rather than me giving you the CD for free. You cant add value to Gurbani with money. i agree with that, and donations are given willfully, not enforced. When you enforce people to donate for a service, that becomes selling. But SikhNet has been running like that for years and years now and it seems to be doing okay. Its not as though they are asking you for a lot of money anyway. It probably doesnt even amount to dasvand.
  16. Normally around Vaisakhi time although i believe Southall(?) have one during the Gurpurab time of Guru Nanak Dev Jee... I am sure others know more on that though.
  17. Any problems, let me or Anjaan know (if neone else can volunteer to help, please add ure name). We know there are some sevadars who wouldnt mind doing seva of transport to and from the train station, as seva of course.
  18. There are also trains from Rolfe St direct into Wolves or as Bass Veer Jee said, there is also the Metro service which is probably best from there.
  19. Also, to add, Bhai Tajinder Singh's body will be flown to India where his sanskaar will be done with his family there. IF anyone will be travelling to India in the next 1-2 weeks, please let Anjaan or myself know and we can give you information on smagams [being discussed at the moment] which will take place in their memory, especially for Bhai Tajinder Singhs family, who will all be there.
