  1. Please don't insult SIKHS by referring to those people. There is a huge difference in getting a sikh name and earning one. In this age and time, most of the sikhs are sikhs just because they were born into a sikh family and have no regard whatsoever to the core beliefs. As for khalsa_girlji, if your teacher is prejudiced against sikhs hearing one article of misdeeds by a so called sikh family, you can question them about the countless criminal acts committed by whites in the country. Should we simply put it as an act of christianity? The oklahoma blast was done by a white guy and killed numerous... Should we propagate it as an act of christians around the world. Of all the people, teachers in schools and univ. need to be more subjective in their approach and make effort to educate themselves before coming to a conclusion about a particular religion. Still it is disgusting to see killers roaming around in the garb of sikhs!
  2. Americans living in a bubble is soo true and their education system need big time revamping. BUt there certainly are individuals with in depth knowledge. I met an old black guy, who knew indian cities like back of his hand and i was surprised to know he has never been to india. He just read a lot. So its matter of interest. As i mentioned above, even indian generation is lost on basic info about their own country. Half of the girls in my school days didnt knew capital of pak or bangladesh, which are neighbouring countries. It was because they were not intrested to know. Resources are out there for anyone to learn, but basic information should be mandotary in schools, which is lacking in america.
  3. But veerji i highly doubt he does parchar in clubs... but then i know nothing about him, his jeevan and his avastha.... but its my personal opinion that one with gurujis kakkar should be setting good example. Feeding manmukhs with pure manmat is not an act of gursikh. It is sad he does that, but seeing sangat being complacent about it is worse. There's actually two of them, they're brothers and of course they dont do prachaar in clubs. But think of it like this, if on one side they're making pointless bhangra songs and the other side they're making dharmik songs which talk about the heroic deeds of Gursikhs and the kurbanian they made, im sure that one day the same person listening to those bhangra songs will listen to the dharmik songs and possibily be inspired. I was inspired in the same way, i regularly listened to bhangra songs (still do, just not as much) then heard some dharmik tracks (some of them being tigerstyles) that had good music and amazing lyrcis, that slowly got me more into Sikhi and made me want to become a better Sikh, as a result i cant go a day without reading Gurbani! to you for soo much love for bani. But i cant visualise a gursikh dj'ing in club. Could you see granthi of your local gurudwara dj'ing at night in a club? I can't. Parchar has to be done in right way. guru nanak devji used to go to bad places, but used to sing elahi bani and nothing else. Guru Gobind shinghji's horse would not even take a step into a tabacoo field, and we are not worried gursikhs visiting places where such things are abundant. But then everyone has their share of flaws and noone is perfect. May guruji put right sense in every gursikh. I understand what ur saying and ultimately no Sikh should indulge in manmat activities that take us away from Sikhi. But things have gotten so bad that we're really not left with many options, we have to unfortunately go into areas that a Sikh shouldnt have to and inspire others. It is obvious that one who finds peace at a club isnt going to find peace at a gurdwara, and one that finds peace at a gurdwara, well he doesnt need to go anywhere else to find peace, but there has to be a method to bring the ones who have fallen off track back to Sikhi. We dont have Sikhs in the media to inspire others, and if we do, they dont even have Sikhi saroop, so that doesnt help. So what method do we use? We cant go up to someone who doesnt have any morals or values, who drinks, smokes, cuts his or her hair and start talking about Waheguru and Sikhi, there has to be a smart approach, one that brings them closer without us preaching over them, only then will people of today be inspired. People during our Guru's times believed in God and actually tried ways to get closer to him, it was mainly the practices (mindless rituals and superstitions) that our Guru's questioned, today people dont even believe in God, and even if they do, they dont care. So things have gotten a lot worse than they once used to be. The question is do we need QUANTITY or QUALITY? Sikhism is not a missionary religion. Guruji went around preaching the true message of GOD, and it was left upto ppl to follow it or not. Gurudwaras, sikhs camps and likes are better place for parchar. One who has inclination to learn will find the path. Preach to someone who is intrested to learn. Someone coming to gurudwara has intention to learn whereas one in club doesnt. Moreover tigerstyle might be earning for his gigs. Parchar is to be done selflessly to be able to produce results. On the end note, we can go on debating this forever. I dont know much about tigerstyle's jeewan and might earn sin doing his nindya here. If you were inspired by him to join sikhi then its great thing to know. Its different matter if you would pursue same approach to do parchar or not. I certainly will not. So lets hold on to u our personal beliefs and pray to guruji so that right sense can prevail. Waheguruji ka khalsa Waheguruji ki fateh
  4. Those who fall into the category described by Akali veer are NOT SIKHS. Simply keeping kesh and kakkar does not make you sikh. Sikhi has to be earned, with humility and love in heart. Sikhs have been overwhelmed with punjabi culture of strong pride and machoism. Of all these so called defenders of faith you'll hardly find a soul with humbleness in heart. And the root of this problem is these so called elders are feeding their kids to hate passionately. If only we could teach our kids and next generation the true message of love and humility from Sri Guru Granth Sahibji, we could build a generation worthy to be labled Singhs and Khalsa! Till then we should work to make our jeewan worthy enough.

  6. The trend is not with americans only.... most younger generations even in india hardly knows common things. Couple of years back MTV did similar survey around 26 jan (india's republic day) and 90% of college students around country hardly knew basic facts about the day or their national flag, bird, flower and stuff like that. Most answered 26 jan is independence day. But they all knew the latest going on about the movies or songs......

  8. IT's so sad to see guruji kept in a glass cage. Guruji is eternal living guru and putting them in a glass cage is disgusting. Something should be done to stop this beadbi.... and as for saroop.... guru nanak devji wrote ikonkar on a piece of paper and took lavan around it for their anand karaj. BANI IN ANY FORM, ANYWHERE IS TO BE RESPECTED. If you have a piece of paper with ikonkar written on it, it is to be fully respected. I guess ppl nowdays are weighing more on personal considerations rather then showing UTMOST respect to shabad guru.
  9. Gurji went to bad ppl to enlighten them.... they used bani to put on track the souls who has forgotten the path of waheguru. An amritdhari gursikh is guruji's roop and should strive hard to keep up its image. To go Dj'ing in clubs is like putting oil in fire. DJ's play songs which promote, pride, ego and glorify 5 vices. It does not matter how many tacks tigerstyle released about shaheedi, as most youngsters will also see him going to clubs and it certainly does not give a good impression. Is there any track from him stressing on humility one should possess or respect. Shahidi songs are high on birras and thus most listen to feed their ego. Now if tigerstyle could make even one soul in those clubs to relinquish that lifestyle and follow the path of guru then otherwise but then noone is perfect, but i personally feel guruji's saroop should not be taken to such places.
  10. I personally think it is to do with our inner ego of being better sikh and knowing all about sikhi. Most ppl like myself enter path of sikhi and have steep learning curve, which brings in this pride, that we know all. And then we are ready to judge others based on heresay and rumors. Most ppl also tend to support so called jathebandis and are totally blinded by their peer groups. Most are internet warriors and would do least on other issues pertaining to sikhi and would waste time debating online. I am one of these ppl and pray to waheguru to put some sense into my head!
  11. More programs to educate kids and youth. They are the future of sikhi and their sponge like minds can absorb a lot and can help them build good jeevan. All i see is kids running around as it is their field trip. Also i agree with sitargirlji that translations should be avoided. We should not get dependent on english translations. If we can make effort to practice our nitnem and amrit rehit, then why shrug to learn gurmukhi to read guruji's message in unaltered form!
  12. The tribune article shows the hardwork done by some migrants who moved to punjab and made it big time. But discriminating against all migrants is not good. Sikhs migrated to wetern countries and started very much like those bihari migrants and made it big. Would they like if the western govts. want to kick them out? Its the state leadership that needs to be checked. Political parties use them as votes and indulge anti social elements.
  13. I remember faintly being a 6yr old kid in amritsar during operation bluestar. We used to go to wagah border for retreat ceremony and salute the soldiers there. When the curfew was imposed crpf were given shoot at sigh orders. Me and couple of other siblings were playing in our "gully" when we heard some soldiers passing main road. we rushed to salute them, unaware of political situation, only to run back and being chased by some of those crpf guys pointing their guns at us. If we had stood there a second more they might have shot us. Also after the operation i went with my parents to golden temple and saw tank marks on floor. I used to ask my parents why indira gandhi is not our prime minister. and remember ppl listening to sant jarnail singhji's tapes at night. Operation bluestar was bad, but the worst was the way it was burried. Until you leave india you cannot get the true picture of events that happened.
  14. Soon Lalu parsad yadav would be fighting elections from punjab.
  15. There are french UN troops too in lebnon. They should see singh with turbans serving the UN and should feel ashamed of banning the same in their own country.
  16. I put mine to remind me to be humble all the time. It does not matter how much knowledge you get, its all fruitless unless you become humble.
  17. I heard this news last year. They were saying it is not TAJ MAHAL but a shiv temple named TEJO MAHALYA. They even had a website made and authored by some westerner to proove their claim.Next they will start calling Golden Temple as a Shiv mandir. If someone has seen durgiana mandir, it is an exact copy of darbar sahib. I heard a story that some hindu guy went to hajj and saw shivling in kabba, and after that incident everyone has to eat beef brfore entring in there.
  18. NOt quite.... Last week i was in BAY AREA, supposdly the focal point of sikhs. I was standing outside my aunts house when couple of teenagers drove in a car and hurled eggs at me. Though they missed, but they did this in braod daylight. In the same area couple of weeks back a sikh guy was stabbed outside his home by a neighbourer. No doubt california has a huge concentration of sikhs, but most americans still dont know diff. between sikhs and muslims. Also in the last year or so, 2 sikh taxi drivers has been killed in richmond area.
  19. This jaipur case will end up like many cases pertaining to sikh issues, which have been hyped for political reasons and then forgotten after a while, without getting any desired output. The french ban still stays, innocent sikhs are still languishing in jails, SGPC men drag other sikhs by their kes. Do we really think SGPC will fight for sikh cause. Closing down cities is a political stunt that every indian political party plays, be it shiv sena, rss or akali dal. It only hurts the common man by disrupting their business and yield no result. Instead ppl need to go stage dharna in front of governor's house or CM's house and force them to take legal action against culprits. It was funny to read that parties like Shiv sena were helping out for the "bandh" in Amritsar city. Next thing we will see is different parties blaming each other for being anti sikhs and this case will die down eventually. Sikhs need an organisation without political ambitions, who can sincerely work for their cause.
  20. Sorry for going offtopic, but it seems that Das_nimana has good links with akal dal(mann) and DKI with dal khalsa. I would like to request you both to forward a letter to these organisations on behalf of sangat along with the pictures of a sikhs kes being disrespected. You can find the letter in post no. 73 at the thread http://www.sikhsangat.com/index.php?showtopic=20306&hl= (thread about kes being pulled by fellow sikh). Its disheartning to see sikhs fighting for respect towards kes outside punjab (france and now in jaipur), whereas right in punjab sikhs enjoy pulling other sikh by his kes. Also if someone knows a reporter from tribune or indianexpress, please let me know. We should be highlighting this grave disrespect towards guru's mohar right in the heart of sikh nation. "In the past few months, brawls and turban mangling have become so common in our religious leaders and supporters that it has hurt Sikhi’s image to the core. Keeping religious views aside, if we think practically what are we conveying to the world here? The turban once considered as Sikh’s pride is mauled and thrown on the ground in every clash. Television media posts these images in the newspapers and websites which have mass following. Soon they are all over the internet as popular email forwards. Nobody has the time to read the entire article. People enjoy them and consider Sikhs as “Bunch of Bozos”. People develop an image in their mind based on what they see. We often target Bollywood for portraying Sikhs as subjects of mockery and farce. What Sikhs are doing among them, nobody cares. We always go by the slogan “Sikhi Will Never End”. Can a child be motivated and encouraged to wear a turban when their own religious leaders don’t have respect for it? Admit it or not, the number of people practicing Sikhism is dwindling day by day. We blame Anti Panth and RSS elements for that. Aren’t we just helping these agencies to achieve their objective in a much easier way? SGPC which is the main governing body who is supposed to set examples in front of people, their task force is always on the forefront in these incidents. What they want to portray? We tell people all over the world that Sikhs are different than Muslims and our Gurus have always spread the message of peace in the word. Even a child knows that smashing turbans and ripping of each other’s hair is no way close to the definition of peace. I don’t want to write a long article on Sikh values and digress from the main issue. My only attempt is to remind every Sikh to our moral values and respect for our 5K’s. As I said before a visual image has more impact than the write up, may be the following images will teach a lesson to our Sikh community."
  21. You got it right bro. :TH: Time for us to stand up!
  22. Leadership is failing sikhs because the common sikh is not standing to confront these goons. These leaders know now one will be challenging them no matter what they do. We should be coming togther to raise a common voice to be heard. Thats why i was requesting youth from all jathebandis to get togther as one on this important issue. We protest in from of indian embassies, we protest when a sikhs hair is chopped off, then why shouldn't we protest when a sikh is dragged by fellow sikh from his kes.
  23. Hmm Intresting.... No Cops or Politicians???? We need more sikh youth to represent sikhs in govt. It nice to see sikhs becoming surgeons and helping out people. Well i am a Product Development Engineer with a medical device company and we are designing new device for knee surgery. So by the time we need to replace our good old knees with those metal parts, it would be much better then they are now. I really wanted to be a cop and maybe i will try to be one sometime. A singh in uniform looks tight. And i guess its a good way to reach out to ppl. Duchess those are nice photoshop stuff. I too play around with it once in a while, but you certainly have talent. In the end no matter what profession we choose, its our depth in sikhi that matters most. But its good to see singhs/singhniya in every field. :TH:
  24. Do we have representatives of various jathebandis here? Does anyone know? They should take this issue to them and proove its significance. We had a recent case of boy's kesh being chopped off. What will we tell them if things like this are happening in punjab and by the same organisations who need to defend it.
  25. A friend of mine drafted an open letter and I request everyone to print it out along with the above pictures and post in your local gurudwaras for sangat to know. Also email to SGPC and the Thakht Jathedars to take serious action for such disrespect for sikhi saroop. No matter what that guy did, He didnt deserved being dragged by hair. "In the past few months, brawls and turban mangling have become so common in our religious leaders and supporters that it has hurt Sikhi’s image to the core.
