  1. Wjkk Wjkf ji Singhson: thats beautiful!! ^^ phen ji, If you want to create a logo, you can have better results if you get someone with knowledge of Adobe Illustrator. Photoshop jpgs etc are not vector images and will distort on resizing, you should get a logo made in vector format, which will not distort on resizing/enlarging etc. Just a tip! fateh ji!
  2. Wjkk Wjkf phen ji please dont let it bother you. Anyone who is unique is bound to face such issues. Also, try to look from others viewpoint as well, its the cultural difference, it might be that they just cant relate to the concept of turban on a woman, its almost similar to some of the things they involve themselves in and we as Sikhs cant relate to that. So, dont let it bother you, we beling to a different set of philosophy and it is going to have its challenges just wanna say - wear your crown with pride! Bhull Chukk Maaf ji
  3. hahahaha, omg this is ssoooooooooooooooooooooooo funny!!! thanks for posting this hahahahaha lmaoooo :LOLz:
  4. wjkk wjkf ji ur blessed then phen ji! ps: keep the polls coming please! :D
  5. Wjkk Wjkf jeo Veer ji, when a bad habit is formed, it is really hard to break away from it. Ideally, it should be rooted out before it develops into a thick big tree. Guru Nanak Dev ji describes this in the follow vaak. A frog in a pond eats the weed/algae formed along the sides of the pond. At the same time, a bumblebee comes flying and sits on the lotus flower and starts sucking the nectar. ਦਾਦਰ ਤੂ ਕਬਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਨਸਿ ਰੇ ॥ dhaadhar thoo kabehi n jaanas rae || You frog, you will never understand. bhakhas sibaal basas niramal jal anmrith n lakhas rae ||1|| rehaao || You eat the dirt, while you dwell in the immaculate waters. You know nothing of the ambrosial nectar there. ||1||Pause|| Guru Nanak Dev ji says: o frog, you do not know, inspite of living in immaculate waters, you still eat all the dirt. ਬਸੁ ਜਲ ਨਿਤ ਨ ਵਸਤ ਅਲੀਅਲ ਮੇਰ ਚਚਾ ਗੁਨ ਰੇ ॥ bas jal nith n vasath aleeal maer chachaa gun rae || You dwell continually in the water; the bumble bee does not dwell there, but it is intoxicated with its fragrance from afar. Mere Sache Patshah says: O frog, just look around, this bumblebee does not even have the privilege of dwelling in a pond like you, it comes flying from far away and still is enjoying the fregrances. And you, o frog, inspite of living in the waters, do not enjoy the nectar of the lotus right in it. Guruji word is just like that lotus, full of fragrances and nectars but, maaf kareo, people inspite of being in such a pond, so close to getting the pleasures of the naam, still do not enjoy it. Veer ji, I will never be able to do justice to the gurbani tukks but what I am trying to say is its a shame that inspite of having amrit naam, seems like she is not enjoying that nectar of naam. She is trapped in maya, just like we are, but this can be solved if she tries. Shes already an amritdhari, she just needs to be in good sangat, and her temperament/lobh will start to fade away. As a practical solution, see if you can take her to gurdwara sahib during evenings? say to her, ma lets go do rehraas sahib at Gurdwara sahib today, start with 'small' gestures like that then see if there are any changes within her. Talk to her, have a ma-puth chat sometime (when shes in the right mood ) and see if you can talk any sense to her. Of course, you must know your mom inside out, try to understand exactly what triggers her towards greed? is it any sort of inferiority complex thats why she keeps buying all the new suits? to keep face in the society? veer ji, i might be totally wrong, but the point im trying to put forward is just analyse her personality a little bit and see if you can remove the mist. For this, I think you will need help from Akal Purakh Waheguru ji, do more naam abheyaas, increase your avashta, and your positive aura will certainly have effect on her. Pray to Waheguru ji after your nitnem to give your more strength to bring your beebi ji on the right parth, that may she get rid of her krodh and moh. If one augan is suppressed, the other 4 get discouraged and eventually they all START to die, of course only a brahmgyaani will be able to get rid of them completely, but we as human beings can only try! Veer ji, just pray to Waheguru ji, there is no illness that He cannot cure, clear your heart and pray and then do the ardaas, things will improve with Waheguru ji's grace. Till then, be in His Hukam, and face the situation with a smiling face, it just might be a test for you! All the best veer ji, may Waheguru ji bring all the lost happiness within your family. Bhull Chukk Maaf and Fateh ji!
  6. Wjkk Wjkf jeo Veer ji, its nice to hear you have got the pyaas in your heart to learn more about Dhan Dhan Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj. Let me say this before I even attempt to answer: I am not an expert at rehat, nor I am an expert at gurbani (perhaps never will) but still, this is what I do for sehaj paath on the computer (i have a pdf file but its pretty much the same thing i suppose): 1. Firstly, id suggest you delete any anti-gurmatt material on your disk. If you have any songs/pics etc, I would suggest you move them to some seperate disk if you wish to retain them, otherwise just get rid of such stuff. 2. Make sure your laptop/computer is nice and clean physically i mean, coz once you open Gurbani on it, according to me, it becomes a saroop and that needs to be taken into account. 3/ Before doing the path, kindly take a shower or if not possible, do a panj ishanaan (wash you hands/feet/face/brush etc). Basically, follow the same rehat as you would before/while doing your nitnem. Close as many windows on your computer as possible, close any instant messaging apps and the like, so that Guruji have the highest precedence. Keep your laptop/computer at a higher place than yourself, then start the paath. 4. About the ardaas, i think its the respect that matters more (which you have ), just recite the normal ardaas and say 'Dhan Dhan Guru Granth Sahib ji de ang. ___ de sehaj paath ji di ardaas hai ji', and bhull chukk di maafi as well because there are bound to be mistakes while doing Guru Granth Sahib ji's paath (i most certainly do!), and that may Waheguru ji give you more strength to recite shudh gurbani. 5. You can keep track of your progress by making simple notes in a notepad file and save it with an appropriate title, and at a place on ur disk where there is no 'clutter'. 6. According to my tucch buddhi, I think you should start with doing a manglacharan uchaaran before starting, and once you are done for the day, make sure you read the entire ang instead of leaving it in the middle. As i said, I am no expert, so please excuse if I have said something that is not appropriate! May Waheguru Ji bless you with all the happiness of the naam! Fateh ji!
  7. thank you sunnybondsingh84 ji, you pretty much summed it up! about amrit chakk, my faith is stronger than ever, but it obviously this path is a loooong path and i would be a fool to believe just by doing nitnem daaily and absorbing the philosophy would straightway make my karm right as well. That is why I want to shakk amrit so I can continue my journey in a more disciplined way, with Waheguru ji's grace But you are right, I will wait till my kesh are of respectable length!
  8. Wjkk Wjkf Ji My Tuchh budhhi says this, please pardon me if im wrong! hir hir krih inq kptu kmwvih ihrdw suDu n hoeI ] A person who follows his Mann (manmukh) recite His name just for the sake of reciting and earn paap by doing deceits and betrayals in parallel must never expect to have their hearts purified. I remember an old saying 'Shakal Mommana Khatoot Kaffaran' - face of a lamb, character of a non-believer. A person who expects that others believe his/her heart is pure cannot be more wrong, because deception and naam dont stay at the same place. Anidnu krm krih bhuqyry supnY suKu n hoeI ]1][ Such people keep performing all the known rituals day and night, but they dont get any spiritual joy even in their dreams, let alone in concious state. One can do lots of seva, daan, etc. in the hope it would bear some fruit, but its all worthless if one keeps all the jealousy, deception, manipulations in his heart. Seva/rituals/pilgrimages are not going to be of any use if one is not able to get rid of evil feelings from the heart. igAwnI gur ibnu Bgiq n hoeI ] Till the time one does not surrender himself under the feet of the Bhramgyani Guru, one can find the true naam daan. It is only the Guruji, the all wise, that can guide us to the Akal Purakh Waheguru and tell us the ways of doing His worship (bhakti). korY rMgu kdy n cVY jy locY sBu koeI ]1] rhwau ] jpu qp sMjm vrq kry pUjw mnmuK rogu n jweI ] Just like no colour can be dyed on untreated cloth, similarly, no matter how much we cry and beg and plead, the beautiful colour of naam cannot be cast on a untreated heart. That heart can only be treated by Waheguru ji's bhakti, the art of which the Bhramgyani Guruji alone can tell us, that is only if we fall at the Gurujis feet. That person who follow his/her mann (Manmukh) does a lot of mantra jaap, fasts and does a lot of other painful karams, but be assured that such a person is never cured of his spiritual sickness. AMqir rogu mhw AiBmwnw dUjY Bwie KuAweI ]2] Yet, he/she is not able to cure the diseases arrogance and ego (haume), it remains deep rooted in his/her heart. 9. just a quick question: how long do I have to let my beard and kes grow before I take amrit. I dont cut any of them anymore but still I dont have a nice long daarha nor long kes yet, so what you guys reckon is the right time for amrit shakkna as far as the soorat is concerned?
  10. thank you all, that has helped, and yes, even the ggm clip I agree we shouldnt care too much about the definition, coz this is one big grey area, everyone seems to have their own opinions and what they think is a sikh. I will, with Waheguru ji's grace, continue the journey and treat this as a test than a question of 'raised eyebrows'. Thank you veero
  11. How pathetic! Shows how much uptight some of the upper british class is like! Well at least she paid it with her job!
  12. Wjkk Wjkf Sangat ji I got myself a T-Mobile G1 phone thinking it must have pdf reader n unicode support so i could read bani on the large screen that its got. Turns out its got none. basically, I was left without gurbani on my mobile, and that annoys me to no end. So, I coded a basic nitnem gutka sahib application that can display all the nitnem banis, even without unicode gurmukhi support. It does the job, i thought Id post it here in case anyone is interested! To install: Connect your G1 to your computer, extract the zips in C:\ directory, then go to command and do a 'adb install NitNem.apk'. Let me know if you need any further help! Fateh ji! NitNem.apk.zip
  13. Am i allowed to say Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji Ki Fateh before I start? (being a non-amritdhari 'person') Ok Sangat ji, this is a followup on a 'debate' that took place in some other thread but since that thread has abruptly been closed, my questions still remain unanswered. All I want to know from sangat is who has the right to be called a 'sikh' - Obviously an amritdhari who has taken amrit from panj pyare and has commited himself/herself to the Guru qualifies but what about others who havent? My questions: 1. What do you call someone born in a sikh family, respects the word of the Guru, does his nitnem, tries his/her best to adhere to principles of Sikhi but has not taken amrit? Can he be called a 'sikh'? 2. If not, then what IS that individual? A nobody? To me it is fairly obvious the person is religious and respects Gurujis, but what religion does he/she belong to if he/she is not allowed to call himself a sikh? 3. Is the term 'Sehajdhari' a misnomer? Sikhiwiki says: Who is a Sikh? A Sikh is a person who takes his spiritual guidance only from the Sikh Gurus; who believes in and remembers the one God (Simran), commonly referred to as Waheguru, at all times; believes in the equality of all beings and selfless service to humanity (Seva); believes in the protection of the weak (Kurbani); preservation of peace; the promotion of personal qualities of Sat (Truth); Daya (Compassion); Santokh (Contenment); Nimrata (Humility); and Pyare (Love); and who at all times constantly repels the inner five evils of Kam (Lust), Krodh (Rage), Lobh (Greed), Moh (Attachment) and Ahankar (Ego). SGGS Page 305 Full Shabad Fourth Mehl: One who calls himself a Sikh of the True Guru, shall rise in the early morning hours and meditate on the Lord`s Name. Upon arising early in the morning, he is to bathe, and cleanse himself in the pool of nectar. Following the Instructions of the Guru, he is to chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. All sins, misdeeds and negativity shall be erased. Then, at the rising of the sun, he is to sing Gurbani; whether sitting down or standing up, he is to meditate on the Lord`s Name. One who meditates on my Lord, Har, Har, with every breath and every morsel of food - that Gursikh becomes pleasing to the Guru`s Mind. Now, I am not an expert at sikhi, but I do know this that before khalsa was established, followers of 9 ghars of Guru Nanak Dev Ji were referred to as sikhs (i may still be wrong, please correct me if I am). I also understand Guru Gobind Singh Ji, on creating Khalsa, created singhs and kaurs, thereby giving a concrete shape to the panth, and this also reduces various jathebandis n all (i think). Now, my dilemma is this - You cannot expect an individual to jump straight into taking amrit, it is a BIG BIG commitment and until one is morally, spiritually, and physically not ready, it should not be done but should work towards it. But under what name? If rest of the kaum (by one definition - Amritdhari Singhs, period. )dont even recognise them as sikhs, then how are they going to get moral support from what is normally referred to as 'Guru Roop Sangat' ? Please help with constructive critiques, as I find myself back at the crossroads again. Fateh (?)
  14. did u reboot ur cable/adsl modem? turn everything off, wait for 5 minutes and bring everything back up again. Are you not able to go to 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 ?
  15. wjkk wjkf ji, is this the track u are after? http://www.ikirtan.com/_Bhai_Jeevan_Singh_...28Dialup%29.MP3
  16. Wjkk Wjkf veer ji, do this: 1. Reset your router again. 2. If you are on cable, restart your cable modem as well. If on BT or any other adsl, then reset the hub. 2. Remove the ethernet cable and connect to wireless signal. 3. go to command prompt (accessories -> cmd) and type 'arp -a' and post your results here. fateh!
  17. Wjkk Wjkf Veer ji Thats a beautiful thought! Ive got myself some old rumaalas from my local gurdwara, after washing they are as good as new, and of course they are already 'blessed' by the Guruji Now i use them to wrap my handwritten pothi and my regular Gutka Sahibs Thanks for this idea! Fateh!
  18. :goodpost: Harinder Veer ji, Id say try not to answer everything by logic, our matt is very small to answer such heavy questions, and remember what Maskeen ji say - Boundary of Dharam starts from where boundaries of logic and science stop Bhull Chukk Maaf veer ji
  19. Wjkk Wjkf veer ji Let me start by saying that itt makes me feel proud there are so many intelligent people like yourself, jassa, and so many others that show so much love for the Bani Veer ji, I treat the Gutka Sahib just like any other Gutka Sahib, I give it full respect, I even followed a beautiful suggestion a Gursikh here had given that we should bring Rumalas from the Gurudwara Sahib and use them to give respect to our pothia. So, I got one such beautiful rumala and now it decorates the Gutka Sahib About mistakes, veer ji, with Waheguru Ji by my side, I can tell you there hasnt been a single mistake while writing so far (Presently on Anand Sahib ji), thats the kind of love He has bestowed me with Your suggestion about writing in a landscape style notebook is beautiful! In my humble opinion, however, I feel that the current 'notebook' is appropriate for its purpose? Coz we have Gutka Sahibs that are in Portrait sizes? Or is this a Hukam from Akal Purakh that I should get ready to write Dhan Dhan Guru Granth Sahib Ji by hand? (by following the appropriate maryada of course ) oooh Waheguruuu! I love you all, be in Chardi Kala mere veero and pehno!! FATEH!!
  20. Wjkk Wjkf I just came back from the talk on Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji at uni of wolverhampton. Wow, that's all I can say! Bhai Sahib giving the speech had naad resounding in him and I could feel it. He got so much love from Akal Purakh while talking he actually ended up crying in joy and I couldn't hold back my tears either ( Soo embarassing, I hope nobody noticed). All in all, lovely sangat and a lovely event, I am grateful to the sighni who gave me the flyer just 5 mins before the talk! WAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, WAHEGURU JI KI FATEH!!
