  1. Hi, Please do a search for this topic on the forum as I am sure it has been discussed many times before. If you are unable to find anything, I will look for it later.
  2. Just checked the exchange rate, 20.00 GBP = 31.7444 USD Send me a cheque for 31.75 USD, you will instantly become 20 pounds lighter.
  3. It is a well known fact that daal and roti at home, can never top langar di daal and parshades.
  4. I think we should refrain from doing things which makes us look like Muslims e.g. flag burning. It doesn't really achieve anything. There are other ways of showing one's discontent towards governments.
  5. Already a topic, please use that for discussion. http://www.sikhsanga...__fromsearch__1
  6. I don't know much about the incident but I suspect that a number of those individuals would have been the policemen who accompanied Beanta. The justification is if it had not been for this event, there wouldn't have been a Sikh left in Punjab as young men were picked up every day and the dead bodies were then shown as fake encounters.
  7. It says "If you want to stay in this country, then you have to speak in favour of Hindus" Jilla, Fursat, Hareesh Sharma , Hindu Surakhsa smiti
  8. totally agree with you. Your average elder is simply following Sikh Channel etc and not thinking about what the end goal should be. It is a typical Punjabi thing to do, It happened with the homeless sikhs now it is happening with Bhai sahib situation.
  9. The best thing you can do is practise tying your dastar. Try experimenting with styles etc and make it fun. My dastar style changes quite a lot throughout the year and I tie my current dastar in less than 3 minutes.
  10. The symbol is on Iranian flag and looks a lot like Khanda. Google "Iran flag" and you will see. Pic attached..

  12. Sikhawareness is a separate site and has no association with Sikhsangat.com, other than the fact both sites are sikhi related. The admin of Sikhawareness.com is a member of this forum just like admins of this forum are members of sikhawareness.com and help each other out when needed. The sites look similar because they both use the same forum software and since the latest release of the software, it is difficult to get decent layouts . So both sites are using the same default layouts. Hope the above answer your question.
  13. Hahaa Yeh I remember when you recommended these to me. I dont think it worked well for me either.
  14. I have been tying my darhi for 10 years+ and have tried every other gel/product. Fixo still works best. What you might want to try is a product called, got2glue or something (http://www.amazon.com/Got2B-Glued-Spiking-Styling-Original/dp/B000142OC2) That was the second best. The thing with weaker products is that they take a long time to set, so once the darhi is dry, your best bet is to use a spray. I find the fewer the products you use the better. The trick is to brush your darhi throughly and ensure its just about damp (not dry and not wet) before starting to tie it.
  15. I hope the above answers your question regarding vishwaas in waheguru. Waheguru will help you but you have to take the necessary steps. If you want material goods then work for them. When religious people make a good living or have material possessions they acknowledge them as gifts from god. But they also have worked hard for the things. Therefore, do what you need to do to improve your life. Prioritise the things in your life. Ask your self, if you were to marry now, would things be different or would the underlying issues which caused your marriage to breakdown still be there? From your posts, it seems that money was an issue in your relationship. However that is my assumption, if you need better advice, please explain the reasons why your marriage broke down?
  16. Fateh, I cant see any new posts coming up in the view new content section since I rebooted the server this morning. Is anyone else experiencing the same issue? Please let me know. ------------------------------ Update Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggghhhhhhhh, Windows Updates screwed up the server time and today we have been 24 hours behind. So all the posts which were posted today were treated as yesterday's posts therefore the "View New content" feature would not have behaved as expected. I think it is working now, let me know if you guys notice anything weird.
  17. Guru ji taught us that we don't need to live in the jungles in order to find god. Therefore, as pointed out by 'consciousness', that things are bad if you decide to take the negative. You can live in a bad area but can have positive impact if you decide you are going to be good. So, if you find it good for yourself and your spiritual well being then nothing wrong with it. Dhanna found god in a stone, remember.
  18. Ok guys, the poster asked for your opinions and help. Please do not not turn this into a debate, let us help someone in need, in anyway we can. As someone pointed out, that we need to learn lesson from this and try to find out how we can prevent this kind of horrendous act from occurring again. Bhen, I am so relieved now that you have told your mother and the police. The last thing you need is to feel alone in this. If you need to talk about anything, please feel free to post here and talk to the sangat. Also, you do not want the guy to get away with this as it will only encourage him.
  19. Because the other side prayed more? Jokes aside, if we are to believe in one universal god then we must realise that god doesn't just belong to us.
  20. When you are at the gurdwara , if you are unsure, just ask someone. There is not much wrong you can do inside the gurdwara, just cover your head, have your shoes off. If you dont feel like bowing then dont, it is not mandatory for non-sikhs. Just find a place and sit down. Most of the time men sit on the right and women on the left but there is no restriction, just find a place to sit. If you wish to try the langar (food) just goto the hall where the food is being served and sit down and take a plate if one isnt provided for you. Again ask someone if you need help. As the poster above said, if you dont want certain food e.g. yougurt then just indicate by putting your hand over the plate. here is a link that explains things better. http://www.sikhiwiki.org/index.php/Visiting_a_Gurdwara Let us know how your visit went.
  21. I don't know what goes through people's mind when they face an emergency. This is the second article I have read recently where an individual got out of the house when there was a fire and then had/tried to go back in. The other incident, I read was about this woman who escaped the fire and then was prevented by neighbours from going back into the house to get her children. Her children died in the house fire. Point, I am making is that, If an emergency arises then, always think before taking action. I know its easier said than done but In case of fires, always make sure kids are safe. In this case, where Guru ji were present at the residence then the home owner should have gone straight to Guruji. Having said all that, the answer to the shaheedi, question is YES. The Singh is in the same league as the mukatsar singhs who stayed with their guru and achieved shaheedi.
  22. found it, although the topic below is not big, i think it was a copy of another topic we had on the old forum which was lost due to a virus in early days. http://www.sikhsanga...nificance-of-5/
