coming from a family of granthis i got to agree with both posts above me lol. As they say "Dive thalle hanera (darkness under the lamp)" does apply to a lot of granthis. Where i am from, the average wage of granthi is £50 with kirtan bhet amounting to around £15/week. So Granthis can expect around £65-£70 /week. This is only for one days seva roughly about 6 hours of work so i dont think its that bad. Then there are granthis i know who are from india and earn up to £200/week. On gurpurabs this can increase to £300/week. So not all granthis do badly. What i find disheartning is that member of sangat and commettee members will always have an eye on the granthi's money. You get these uncles who mention things like "we are on pension and we dont make this much and giyani is from india and he makes more than us". Finally let me tell you that its not about the money, it is about Visa stamps and maybe permanent residency. Granthis will take all the crap, take low wage until they get citizenship. After that they will still be ok with the low gurdwara salary because they can then have a proper second job. Personally i think if we can help our people settle here and increase our numbers then we will face lots of problems.

You cant transfer from vhs to digital just by using software. You need a tv tuner card at the very least. someone here might have done it before so hopefully they will post. But as far as i know, you need a tv tuner card in the pc and then you can record from it. The output of your vcr video goes into the input of the tv tuner card and then using the software provided you can save the video as avi or similar.

singhhawk, i think you missed the point of Mathleen's post. No one is saying one is better than the other spiritually though one is better than the other cos someone who doesnt compromise is better. I myself tie my darhi but would love to leave it khuli but thats a personal thing. I dont look for validation from others. What you are suggesting is to change yourself to fit in. If tomrrow, tied darhis are not allowed then does it mean we should be getting rid of them? How far do you compromise your beliefs? Some is going to confuse a sikh with taliban regardless of how they apear. Just having brown skin would be enough for them.

I agree, these so called singers have sold their soul. One minute she sings praises of sikhi and other minute she says "kandiya to nahi khatra, hun darr lagda phula to" i support their right to believe in what they want and if they want to have a separate panth then they can. At the same time we as sikhs have to think why things have come this far? Surly the ravidassiya sikhs have always been separate as they were never accepted by other sikhs so this is just making it official now. We need to stop alienating others and remember that there is strength in numbers. If we dont go out seeking converts then at the very least we should try to keep who we have rather than turning them away.
