  1. People in those days had a lot of knowledge about body. Sure hard work kept people busy but dont forget akharas etc were still available. Desi version of the gym was your local akhara where the pehlwans used to wrestle and lift weights.
  2. Fateh all, We are experiencing some issues with the website configurations. It keeps going offline and then I have to reconfigure to bring it back and it then goes offline. I am looking into this and will keep you updated.
  3. FYI, When I was young and in India, in summer we would have bumble bees and occasionally we would get stung. We would use our 'Karas' to get the sting , One simply needs to scrape the skin and the sting comes out.
  4. Its quite common, when hindus and sikhs live side by side, families do arrange marriages. I know some hindu families who have sikh relatives (not because of marriages) but because they have adopted sikhi. So I have seen few arranged marriages between sikhs and hindus.
  5. Ok I am going to give you one more chance to dscuss what you want to discuss. Please stick to the topics. I have split your conversations into two topics.
  6. Closing topic as the author has gone off topic. If you wish to discuss your sexual orientation then please create a topic for that.
  7. Fateh All, We have introduced a new skin which everyone should now be seeing. Sangat now has access to a number of skins which we will keep adding to. If you wish to change the skin to the one of your liking you can do so by changing the skin from the list at the bottom of the forum. Feedback is always appreciated.
  8. Listened to it, basically he is talking about I think his father who was "Prithvi Raj Kapoor". Prithvi Raj kapoor acted as an amritdhari sikh in many punjabi religious films so one can only guess that he was close to sikhi. In the audio, Raj kapoor says that his dad used to recite a shabad from Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji. mY inrguixAwry ko guxu nwhI Awpy qrsu pieEeI ] mai niraguniaarae ko gun naahee aapae tharas paeiouee || I am unworthy - I have no worth or virtues at all. You have taken pity on me. qrsu pieAw imhrwmiq hoeI siqguru sjxu imilAw ] tharas paeiaa miharaamath hoee sathigur sajan miliaa || You took pity on me, and blessed me with Your Mercy, and I have met the True Guru, my Friend. nwnk nwmu imlY qW jIvW qnu mnu QIvY hirAw ]1] naanak naam milai thaa(n) jeevaa(n) than man thheevai hariaa ||1|| O Nanak, if I am blessed with the Naam, I live, and my body and mind blossom forth. ||1|| In the audio, he got few things wrong but he is referring to that shabad which Prithvi Raj used to recite. Raj Kapoor says basically saying that these musicians he is working with are due all the credit for the songs, he himself has no virtue.
  9. I don't know, I think the mona guy who is putting his patka on is probably better than the so called singhs with khulle dhare in the video. Atleast he doesn't pretend to be a follower of the Guru and then disrespects the same guru in their diwan hall. I also don't understand what the man in beige shirt and dastar is doing? Dude you are being violent in the gurdwara sahib and infront of your guru. What use is holding your hands together? Where are the sikh channels? I hope they show this video over and over again so others can learn. sometime you have to be on the other end of the video to see that these actions are so disrespecting to our Guru ji. Its better to have no gurdwara than to have one where this kind of things go on.
  10. According to the sakhi when Guru Nanak Dev ji was in Iraq and the peer found out from people that there was this man saying there are millions of planets (Lakh patala patal...), Peer went to see Guru ji. Here Guruji took Peer's son to a different planet and even had parshad from there. Guru ji did this by placing his hand on the son's head. If you think about one god, then that same god is taking care of everything else. So are our Guru the only Gurus? Is Sikhi the only path? Thats why I think its important to remember that these labels (Sikh, Hindu, Muslims) are here just for our understanding. The important thing here is the message. For Sikhs, Gurbani is the highest and leads to Waheguru. This may be true to aliens which will have their own beliefs and those may have been revealed to them according to their own traditions/culture by god.
  11. Really nice and informative video. really good editing as well.

  17. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/france/8442622/French-burka-ban-police-arrest-two-veiled-women.html French burka ban: police arrest two veiled women French police arrested two veiled women this morning just hours after the country's new ban on wearing the burka in public came into force. Police received a guide last week to help implement the ban Photo: ALAMYBy Peter Allen, in Paris 11:03AM BST 11 Apr 2011The women were arrested along with several other people protesting in front of Notre Dame cathedral in Paris against the new law. Jourrnalists at the scene said the arrests came after police moved in to break up the protest which had not been authorised. On Saturday police arrested 59 people, including 19 veiled women, who turned up for a banned protest in Paris against the draconian new law, the first of its kind to be enforced in Europe. Earlier, French police said they will be enforcing the country’s new burka ban "extremely cautiously" because of fears of provoking violence. They fear Muslims extremists will use the law to provoke fights with officers, while rich visitors from countries like Saudi Arabia will also cause trouble . All garments which cover the face were officially banned from first thing this morning, with offenders facing fines of 150 euros (£133). But police admitted that they feared being accused of discrimination against Muslims, whether approaching women in tinderbox housing projects or on the Champs Elysee. "The law will be very difficult to apply on certain estates," said Patrice Ribeiro, of the Synergie police union. Referring to two Paris suburbs where riots regularly break out because of alleged discrimination against Muslims, Mr Ribeiro said: "I can’t see police going to book dozens of veiled women doing their shopping in Venissieux or in Trappes. "It will be the same when a police officer is about to arrest a veiled Saudi who is about to go into Louis Vuitton on the Champs Elysees. In all cases, the forces of order will have to be measured and cautious in their behaviour." Synergie has already instructed its members to view the ban as a "low priority", and Mr Ribeiro said there would "inevitably be incidents". Mohamed Douhane, another Paris police officer and Synergie member, said he and his colleagues also "expected provocation by a minority." Mr Douhane added: "Fundamentalist movements are eager to raise the stakes. The police know they will be held responsible for any public order disturbances." Police have already been warned not to arrest women "in or around" mosques, and "citizen’s de-veilings" are also banned. The strict instructions, from Interior Minister Claude Guent, are contained in a nine page circular issued to officers. With tensions running high within the country’s six million strong Muslim community, officers have been told to look out for members of the public taking the law into their own hands. Instead they will have to call the police, who will in turn have four hours to consider whether an offender should be fined. This will apply to all garments which cover the eyes, although scarfs, hats, and sunglasses are excluded. As well as a mosque, Muslims will also be able to put on a veil in the privacy of their own homes, a hotel room, or even a car, as long as they are not driving. Police have already complained that they will have to waste time on "burka-chasing", with Denis Jacob, of the Alliance police union, adding: "We have more important matters to be dealing with." The ban means France is officially the second country in Europe, after Belgium, to introduce a full ban on a garment which immigration minister Eric Besson has called a "walking coffin". While French women face the fines and ‘civic duty’ guidance if they break the law, men who force their wives or daughters to wear burkas will face up to a year in prison, and fines of up to 25,000 pounds. Posters have already gone up in town halls across France reading: "The Republic lives with its face uncovered." Belgium introduced a full ban last year, although it has not been enforced with any vigour. A ban also looks likely in Holland, Spain and Switzerland. There are no plans to introduce a similar ban in Britain, although politicians from the UK Independence Party and some Tory backbenchers have suggested one.
  18. If you do a word document with all this stuf, keey uploading it so members can add. Once finalised we can convert it to various formats e.g. PDF, Websites etc. Moving this topic to the Resources section.
  19. Stupid, Sonia could have said "Sikh Scriptures" but she kept saying Sikh holy book.
  20. One suggestion veerji, instead of just posting what you have added to the site, can you provide links to the pages where your material is. This will increase the visibility of your content to search engines and also make it easier for the sangat to find the files etc. Great Seva btw and Keep it up. If you need any help, just ask.
  21. hahaha Kam bro, you have been a member of SikhSangat for a long time. Read S1ngh's Group under his avatar..
  22. I think it goes like this, After Guruji left the Machiwara jungle, they were met by two brothers (bhai nabi khan?) who were Guru ji's follower. Mughals were looking for Guru ji so they got this thing made and guru ji sat on it and it was lifted by the two brothers on their shoulders. When they were stopped by some soldiers and asked who were they carrying, they replied "Uch da peer".
