  1. Mee too. Because hair in no way makes anyone unhygenic.
  2. Everything has a purpose. Nature goes in a cycle. So God has not created anything useless, everything is useful and so is hair. Two main reasons why we dont cut our hair: 1. Our last Guru in human form Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji has restricted us to do so and a Sikh believes that by following our Guru's path, we can become one with God and get rid of the cycle of reincarnation. Sikh- Learner Guru- Guide/Teacher 2. By cutting our hair, or altering with our bodies we are saying that "No God we do not like the way you have created us, So I am going to alter it to please me." When the whole purpose of a Sikh is to please God and follow our Guru. So one cannot become a practising Sikh if they cut their hair because then it defeats the whole purpose of Sikhi, which is to follow our Guru's and Love God. And your question about why Sikhs cut their nails is answered in this article. It is often argued that Sikhs do not cut their hair so why do they cut their nails. Sikhs only cut the dead gray part of their nails, not the alive pink/red part. This is similar to combing and removing dead hair while retaining live hair. Just like we do not cut the pink/red part of our nails, why should we cut our perfectly live and healthy hair? If anything dead grey part of nails should be compared to dandruff or dead hair removed while combing. In addition, hair is not a hindrance to anyone. Because hair can be placed in a bun and kept clean and does perform a number of functions, it is only practical to realize that keeping hair is not hard. On the other hand, having long nails is a hindrance to the body. An individual with long nails cannot functions and do everyday chores comfortably. In order to ensure that one can perform the tasks of everyday life, only the dead part of nails is trimmed. In addition, whereas the hair grows from a tubular pit (hair follicle), formed by sinking in of the most actively dividing layer of the skin (stratum germinativum) into the lower dermis, the gray part of nails is only modifications of the upper dead layer (stratum corneum). Further, the base of every follicle bulges out forming an inverted cup, which receives blood capillaries for nourishment and nerve fibers to make the hair sensitive. An oil gland, known as sebaceous gland, opens into every hair follicle, the secretion of which lubricates the hair. A muscle is also attached to the base of every hair for bringing about movement. Pigments are added to the shaft of the hair as it grows. None of these features is associated with the dead part of nails. Structurally, hair is extremely strong, and resists breaking due to its elasticity and flexibility. Strength of hair can be estimated from the following facts, a human hair laid on a bar of steel and then passed through a cold rolling mill would leave an imprint on the face of the steel. A hair of a man’s beard is about as strong as a copper wire of the same dimensions. If a rope were made out of strands of long hair, it would be strong enough to lift an automobile. Dead part of nails, on the other hand, are very brittle and rigid, breaking off easily. Hair are countless (upto 125,000 on head region alone), thereby increasing the surface area. Hair protects us against the harmful Ultra Violet radiations and skin cancer while the dead part of the nails do not seem to provide a similar functionality. The differences between the two do not end with the structural features. Even the body’s response towards the two is totally different. Our body, throughout life, tries to maintain a particular length of hair. Every individual has a specific length for hair. Once the hair reaches its specific length, it stops growing. If the hair is cut, the body responds by growing it again to the specific length. It clearly indicates the link of the body with the hair all along its length. The body shows no such response to the nails, which grow from birth to death at the same rate, irrespective of whether cut or not. It follows, thus, that cutting of the dead part of nails does not tell on the body at all, whereas, cutting of hair puts extra load on the body. To sum up, if there is anything on the head that can be compared with the dead part of nails, it is either dandruff or dead hair which are removed by combing. Nature knows best what to retain or discard. Whatever is retained is not without purpose. Hair is a gift from God, not a burden. Guru Gobind Singh Ji, in his infinite wisdom, instructed us to respect hair and refrain from tampering with it. This is the visible token of his affection for us, as well as our faith in him. http://www.realsikhism.com/index.php?subaction=showfull&id=1248365011&ucat=7 Hope this helped.
  3. So... I won't be able to bring Shastars back? I dont understand why they're so strict. I mean the Shastars will be in luggage, like they harm anyone in a closed suitcase.
  4. Wow Gupt Singh Ji you've stolen my question!!! I am going to India sometime in the summer and I really wanted to bring back some Kirpans and Shastars, but I'm in the US so anyone know if I'll be stopped here?
  5. And there is also Sikh Knowledge, he raps and he's a producer, oh and Sikh Unit, they rap about Sikhi.
  6. So recently I have discovered that you can take a Cyber Hukamnama online at Sikhnet. Well my question is that is it correct to do so? I dont have Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji at my home so is it ok that I take a Cyber Hukamnama? Is it the same thing? Also, if it is correct then what are the correct methods to do so? Thanks for the help in advance, Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!
  7. Also veerji remember that we should only be looking for one life partner. This is how I stop myself from thinking about looking more attractive. Just like you veerji I am also not an Amritdhari yet but I am trying to become Keshdhari first. And the way I stop myself from cutting my kes is thinking that what is the point of making yourself attractive to other people when the only person you should impress is Guru Ji. And if you have immense love for Guru Ji he will present to you a good wife who doesn't care about your appearance but your characteristics. Now I dont know why you havent taken amrit but seeing how you want to keep your kes shows that you have some love for Guru Ji. Oh and one more thing, this is what I think about when I am carried away by appearance sometimes. "Jao tao parem khelan ka chao, Sir dhar tali gali meri aaou, it marag pair dharijai, Sir dijai kan na kijai." (If you desire to play this game of love with me, then step onto my path with your head in your hand, when you place your feet on this path, give me your head, and do not pay any attention to public opinion.) ----- Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Ang 1412 Hope this helped
  8. Well I mean seriously if we the KHALSA, Akal Purakh Ki Fauj, the ones that are supposed to help others, cannot protect our own Gurdwara then it really shows what state the panth is in. Someone came into the Gurdwara and STOLE from our Guru. OUR GURU what else do we need to wake us up? Guru Maharaj that we bow to!! This is disgraceful that no one did anything about it.
  9. wheres the from etc. who is this Veer Ji this is Sikh Unit. I think they are a part of Singhrow but not so sure. But the sewadaars on Singhrow are amazing and I have really been inspired by them. They do lectures in English and they are in UK, I still try and find videos to listen to more lectures even though I live in USA. But the more amazing thing is that most of them were previous drug dealers etc who have discovered Sikhi and are trying to bring the Sikh youth on the right track. They are doing great sewa. This is their website http://www.singhrowproductions.blogspot.com/ And this is Sikh Unit http://www.sikhunit.co.uk/
  10. In this picture you can see that the Gurdwara is in a distressing state today (* picture posted by 'sat1176' - http://www.sikhsanga...howtopic=22474) Post continues>> Sangat Ji can anyone tell me which Gurdwara this is? Isn't this the Gurdwara that was built as a replica of Sri Harmandir Sahib? Forgive me for my ignorance
  11. Yeah but Immortal Technique only sings one verse and it goes like this. "Sikh n****z that'll stab you up like Indra Gandhi, So never desecrate the place on which I meditate."
  12. 40 minutes... wow Sounds good.... I will start memorizing Jap Ji... be good anyway because I never understand whats going on at the end of service... that is the prayer they say at the end of service right? Thanks very much! Jap Ji Sahib only takes about 10-15 min and like two of the banis (prayers) are even shorter. OK for the services this is how they usually happen, at least at my Gurdwara on Sunday mornings/afternoons, Its Nam Japp like I said above, And then they sing hymns which is called Kirtan from the Guru Granth Sahib Ji After that they do Ardaas standing up which is a prayer which you can also find online paying homage to the Guru's and Martyrs and various other things And in the end they take Vaak from the Guru Granth Sahib Ji which is called a hukamnama or an Order and during that everyone is to remain quiet. Its kind of like a Sermon of the day. In the Evening Services, They start from Rehras Sahib, which is not a nitnem prayer but many prefer to do it at night then usual hymns and Vaak and then they do Kirtan Sohila which is another small prayer which is usually done before going to sleep, its not required but many Sikhs prefer to do it. And in the end they take Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji to a room because it is Night and no one is really going to read from it. Other Sikhs could give you more info on this. But as far as my understanding goes, JapJi Sahib prayer is only done in early hours, never at the end of services.
  13. Thanks 3HO Anyone have any non 3HO stuff in english... or is it really all 3HO? Why don't you put your questions on sikhi forth? We will give you answers from traditional orders of Sikhism. Be assured, it won't be new age hocus-pocus stuff. Sounds like a plan! But tonight, tonight a have a <banned word filter activated> ton of neuro to learn... ill save the q for tomorrow except for this one.... Anyone wanna give me an idea of the daily routine I can start trying to follow... like if I want to live as a sikh what should my daily routine be... Thanks! Im happy to know that you are interested in Sikhism. One important part of a Sikh's daily routine is Prayers before the sunrise. These prayers are called Nitnem and usually consist of 5 prayers. Personally it takes me about 40 min to finish them everyday. One of the first prayers is Jap Ji Sahib. As a beginner you don't have to jump to all 5 just now. Take a small step at a time. Try and understand one prayer and then move on to the next. I would recommend Jap JI Sahib first because the whole concept of Sikhi is in that prayer. The first stanza is called the Mool Mantar. You could also just start memorizing the Mool Mantar and then take a small step at a time. Its completly up to you. Also reciting Gods name is called Nam Japp which is done usually by repeating the word WAHEGURU. Also, once you are done with memorizing prayers and knowing the concepts of them you should start reading the Guru Granth Sahib, our holiest book (which technically is not a book its our LIVING GURU). Here is a link with English Translations of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and Im pretty sure you can find English translations of the Nitnem online somewhere if you don't have an English "Gutka" (book with prayers) already. SriGranth.Org I hope this helped.

    Dad'S Drunk

Bhen Ji I have also been through this same situation. I am not an Amritdhari yet but still a devout Sikh and my dad used to drink all the time. Even while we would be making langar for the Guru Ghar. Matters worsen to such extent that he told us that he will divorce my mother and leave us and find another wife. Our whole family was at the edge of splitting up but then my father had a massive heart attack from which there was only a 10% chance of surviving. He survived with Waheguru Ji's meher but he has short time memory problems. He's normal for most of the time but he never remembers anything. Even though I am always in pain seeing my dad like this, to some extent it was much better than him drinking. So Waheguru Ji always helps out. It may be now or later. So like Veerji above said don't feel alone there are many other people that go through this but keep strength and Waheguru Ji will keep holding on to you.
  15. I Agree veerji everyone has their own opinions and by arguing we're just making matters worse. If someone tries to talk about ANY topic, it always ends up either being AKJ, Dhadrianwale, and Sant Jarnail Singh Ji.
  16. They announced at the Gurdwara that we have more than 200,000 Sikhs in USA.
  17. She's so good that it sounds like she WOULD be a Sikh.
  18. Bhul chuk maaf . I dont want to sound offensive or insulting .... This is not correct in my opinion . No granth can be kept aside Guru Granth Sahib ji maharaj . And dasam granth is dasam granth sahib only . Not Guru Dasam granth . Guru Gobind Singh jee gave gurgaddi to Siri Guru Granth Sahib jee only . They are creating more confusions . Guru Nanak dev ji is saying in aarti shabad that "Gagan mei thaal rav chand deepak bane .... ...." Then , how can we follow bahmanwaad . Are we sikhs or poojaris ? doing aarti with lamp and thaal ? REMEMBER , Guru Gobind Singh jee has said " Jab lag khalsa rahe nyaara , tab lag tej diyo mei saara . Jab eh gaye Bipran ki reet . Tab mei na inki karo parteet ." We have to respect and consider Sri Dasam granth because most of banis in it is indeed by Guru Gobind Singh jee maharaj . 3 banis out of our daily 5 banis of nitnem is from dasam granth sahib . But , who are we to add "guru" to dasam granth . Are we clever than Guru Gobind Singh jee ? BHUL CHUK MAAF !! Veerji this is exactly my point. I wanted to say this. But I just didnt have enough resources to back it up so I didn't.
  19. I agree. I heard they were going to make a movie about him with Sunjay Dutt and Amitabh Bachan. Was it just a rumor?
  20. Thanks Ji Will get to it right away =]
  21. Just out of ignorance, what did Amitabh Bachan do?
