  1. I really like Toussaint L'Overture from Haiti. What he did just amazes me and resonates with me. He organized fellow slaves into a successful revolt and even an army. But when his army was going to attack the plantation where he slaved at. He went and helped the slaveowners who he worked under, escape. Because they had treated him well. I think they mightve raised him too. His army was so good that the French lost and were willing to surrender. When the french came to sign the surrender letter. They ambushed and killed him. But what he was able to accomplish in his life, i really admire. I also like che guivre or at least his vision before he became a ruthless killer for Fidel castro. Sikha, jinda quote che guevre in their letters from prison.
  2. I agree, i think we should celebrate rakhri. It celebrates a brother and sister relationship, which tells us how high our culture was. Compared to the west, which celebrates valentines day. Also all.countries and ppl need holidays. To break up the monotony and bring the family together. In the old days rakhri was good. It gave women a chance to visit their peke. Or the bro to visit his sisters saure and check up on her and see if she is being treated right. As there was no communicatin back then. Like no letters or phones. Also we should remember our culture and religion. Not only the religion. Look at the 3ho ppl, or afghani sikhs. They r different from us because their culture is different. Even tho.we have the same religion. I dont think english ppl should forget their language or ancestors or famiky when they convert to sikhi.
  3. In katha, i have heard that in satjug, ppl were really good. And there was no kaam and ppl were powerful. So they could have children from just staring at each others eyes instead of intimacy. Also have you seen mahabharat? The devi/devte, the hindu gods could bless ppl with children in virgin birth
  4. U have a point. But not completely. Just becauae men do dumb things like drink and smoke and go clubbing. Doenst mean women should do it. Why should women follow men or do what men do? Who said men are better that women should copy them. Women should definietly not go smoking, clubbing or drinking. They r very bad for health. Esp mental health. If our punjabi culture is going good, its cuz at least the women r avoiding drugs n alchol n clubbing. If women start doing this stuff. Very bad effect on family. First of, babies are born with genetic issues and mutations if mom drinks. And women dont find out they're pregnant until 2 to 4 weeks later. So to avoid damaging the baby or potential babies, women should avoid toxins. Second of all, women become addicted faster as theyre body cant metabolize as fast and theyre brain is.more susceptible to addiction. Then women become druggies and forget abt children. Third of all,.if ur uncle is being stupid, ppl should stand up to him. Not copy him. Maybe lock him out of the house. And when he starts knocking and making a scene. Call thepolice on him.

    Depression

Google sarab rog.ka.aukhad naam. Might be on youtube as well. Also attend one of their camps.
  6. The only bad thing that I think he has ever done is speak against khalistaan. Otherwise, he helped kick out anti dasam granth sarna comittee from delhi. And has done lots of other panthic seva. Sant jarnail singh went to his dads funeral too. And spoke about GK well.
  7. I dont think we have to worry. SGPC has a task force there. And those ppl r strict. They r the ones wearing yellow and carrying barshe. They stop ppl doing everything. My dad put his kashera to dry in the parkarmas. And they made him pick it up. Makes sense. I guess cuz sangat walks there
  8. Sometimes we can lack vitamin k and E. Or folate.
  9. Have you tried spironolactone( or other anti androgen meds?) or birth control? Also there are supposed to be herbal remedies to remove unnatural hair, have your mom or nani get them from india. Also you can try Rog Nivaran camp also known as sarab rog ka aukhad naam camp. You can find locations at gurbanihealing.com if u cant try doing sukhmani sahib daily with ardaas. Maybe ask ur nani to do it with u
  10. Some of the benefits are that Amritsar was given the holy city status and a radio installed at darbar sahib. It also increased the sikh diaspora, taking sikhi worldwide. I think the delhi pograms did more to wake up sikhs tho. Before the govt staged riots, sikhs were against being armed and against Sant ji. But Nov 84 really woke up sikhs, esp urban sikhs
  11. yes. u should get all ur vitamin levels checked. Also ur thyroid and other hormones and get a depression test while ur at the doctors.
  12. My parents just changed the whole atmosphere. We got yelled at and lectured. Then we were doing chores in silence while my mom would recite all the past misdeeds we did. The whole bad mood stayed until our parents forgot. That's why having lots of siblings helped cuz one of them was able to do something to change the subject/mood. We didn't dare touch the TV or have fun. It was like when we got in trouble, it was a funeral house. All silent and grim.
  13. Ok. But Aryans and Iranians were also invaders. Or at least not indigenous. And since Punjabis are some part indigenous, my point still stands. That we should not look down upon the indigenous. Btw, why do you think aryans are steppe nomads (which wouldn't that make them mongols, which the Mughals were?) I think it makes more sense that aryans were Iranians because. The aryans had to travel through iran to get to india anyways from the steppes
  14. Tho ppl now say. Doing shastar naam mala will give u knowledge on how to use most weapons,.make u invincible etc. Or mastar of weapons
  15. Dev ashtar or dev shastar. You need to watch mahabharat lol. It is one of the deadly weapons of ancient india. Maybe even a divine weapon. It had the power to kill lots of ppl and make you powerful. The most powerful one was brahmasthar. Its kind of like modern day nuclear bomb. I Learnt all of this from watching mahabharat.
  16. In sikhi, our creator must be perfect. Because otherwise if our creator is imperfect, what is the use in worshipping it? Instead we can trick it and force it to give us powers through tapas and sacrifices. Like the devte did in mahabharat. In sikhi, we must worship the creator night and day. With all breaths. And the creator is called beloved. Can you really fall in love with a flawed, weak, subject to his desires, creator? I think the greatest attributes of God are these two: Namastuang Akaale Namastuang Kirpale. That he is immortal and that he is compassionate. If he was immortal but like indra or zeus. Then he is of no use to us. He will be running around after his own desires. And we cant placate him nor ask him to grant our prayers when we need help. He will help those who please him not those who need him. If he was compassionate but not immortal. What use is he? He can feel sorry for us and maybe help us but not forever. Another great attribute is that he is Akaame. Desireless. He has no deaire to rule or to be worshipped. But most importantly. Its not why the creator must be perfect. It is that he is. That is what gurbani is. A description of how God is. Gurbani not only shows us the path on how to meet God. It is the path. And when u read Gurbani, u shoukd be able to connect and feel God, his prescense. And his perfectness. Not what we want him to be, but his raeal perfect self. And im extremely grateful he is perfect. I cant imagine worshipping a vengeful, evil, petty God nor can I imagine living in a world without a God. I dont know how the athiests bear it. As for why God created the world. I dont think we can answer that. Tho the book Conversation with God might shed a light. In katha ive heard God felt like it. He had a thought, furna so he did it. I think its a great story. On the one hand, entropy fights creation, maya fights truth, panj chor fight our good side, predator vs prey, kings vs kings. So many conflicts from cellular level to galaxies. As virus and bacteria fight to black holes devouring stars. Theres so many different levels of conflicts and competition going on. Its amazing.
  17. Looks wise. I would say south indians look better. Not deep south but like maharashtra area.. They have pretty eyes. Panjabis are mixed. We look like any mixed races. Like north africans, south americans, southeast asians. As we r a mix. I dont think we should be like arabs. Who judge non arab muslims as beneath them. I do think we panjabis have invader blood whether arayan or mughals or turks who knows? But we should not side with the fathers side( invaders) and demean our mothers side( the indigenous) But otherwise you are right. We drove from panjab to Hazur sahib and then to patna sahib and then to hemkunt sahib. And yes,.panjab is the most prosperous. It is most agriculturalized. Its ppl dont look as starved or skinny. But himachel.pardesh was cleaner.
  18. Theres a difference. Languages are different than religion. The universal language was persian/urdu back then. Abdullah, Rahim etc are islamic names. Found in their quran and referring to their version of God as allah. Also as Jagsaw has often mentioned panjab was sometimes under persian rule and closer culturally to persia than south india. Our wells, our square houses, our dress, our food and language is similar to persians than south indians. So while brahmins ridiculed persian as malesh bhasa. Guru ji embraced it. Because to guruji, all ppls and languages are equal. And not like the brahmins with their superiority. Also Inder means lord of. So bhupinder means lord of the earth. So as always panjabis and sikhs are in the middle. Neither persian nor arab nor indian nor hindu. We r a mix. The names raam singh heera singh. Are very hindu. While zorawar, subegh singh are persian. Bahadar singh and iqbal are definitely arabic. I think the jeet and preet names. Esp harsimran and jot names. Are really the only true panjabi names based in gurmukhi and gurbani. I bet they started in the 19th century by sikhs wanti g to be different than hindus. It is too bad nobody likes them anymore. They are too trite. But some ppl are mixing them up.like manharjot singh etc which i think sounds cool. Other are going for 1 syllable names like Benai kaur and ardaas singh.
  19. We cannot eat that whose milk we drink. Even jewish ppl, they do not allow mixing of dairy and meat just for this reason. So a cow is not cooked with ots own mothers milk. Also, we cant have beef in a land where vegetarians raise cows. Vegans think its horrible to drink milk. Because cows are artificially impregnanated to keep them lactating and.their male sons are sent to slaighter. So if we allow beef, all vegetarians who drink milk are complicit in meat eating and killing of calves. So it becomes part of their karma. Even if they dont eat meat. They will suffer from it. So that is why. In india where the only animal tamed and raised is cows. We cant kill them. If meat eaters want to eat meat. They can raise their own chicken. Sheep. And goats. But we dont want dairies becoming part of the meat market. If we allow beef. Dairies will start sending their sick cows and male calf to underhandedly to the slaughterhouses. And then vegetarians will be hypocrites. And vegetarians must drink milk due to vit B12 coming from animals only. To remain humane and properly vegetarian, all ppl should agree not to kill that whose milk we drink. Even muslims in india agreed to use goats as halaal and sacrifice. As do the nihang sikhs. But now the muslims are making a fuss. And demanding more. I think the dairy owners are behind it. Ofc ppl who let their cows wander in the streets once they r no longer lactating. Are also hypocrites. I think india should make it a law. That any freely wandering cows can be killed and eaten. That way ppl cant be hypocrites that release the old cows so they dont have to feed them.
  20. Wat?? We americans have been taught soccer was aztec so mexican. They played it at their new year festival after all the tribes had made tributes and the volcano had its obligatory sacrifice of 50 virgins. And which ever team lost was killed to symbolize death of defeat of something
  21. If u do decide to get engaged. Make it a year long engagement. Where its long distance mostly. No meeting up. So just txt, skype. This should let u know if youre compatible. Then get married in your 20s. And treat it as dating for the first few years. They say most ppl r getting married so late in 28 etc. That they have to get kids before they hit the 30s. As increased maternal.age leads to down syndrome etc. That couples dont get to spend time with each other without kids. So u giys can still go to seoerate universities. And then maybe just visit on holidays. And go traveling ummer vacation. If u do get married. You have to realize you will have to spend 50 years with this person. And u shoukd do it with the understanding that no matter what happens. Can not divorce her. You think yiu found the right person. Wat if u think wrong? Wat do u know of marriage to judge who is right? Maybe give ur parents a year to find someone else better?
  22. Have some anakh. Believe u r strong enough to conquer this. Sometimes we get stuck in a rut. Of self defeating thoughts and same old life habits. Try changing it up. Visit yosemite or other natural parks. Travel to other countries. Attend sikhi camps or a rainsabai. Marriage is not the be all,.end all of life. You can enjoy life without it. Start a charity. Volunteer with United Sikhs, khalsa aid, sikh coalition. Visit a psychologists or hire a life coach. Address ur depression, hopelessness. Once u feel better. Do sehaj paath. Read Bhai Vir Singh. Meditate Go live life. Have some interesting, dangerous experiences. Learn surfing. Climb mt everest.
  23. This is one way to.deal.with it: But on a serious note. Tell them you will learn this stuff and even watch while.they do.it. but will not participate. As you will only want to honor one Guru and be true to that guru. Tell them ur siblings will continue the traditions. Also tell them.in the past. Each family usually dedicated one child to sikhi and let that be you. If you are an only child. Then i suggest u clarify religion and culture differences. You can view sikhi as the true way and ur only religion. Whike these practices can just be like cultural festivals. Like it is not a problem for sikhs to celebrate 4th of july. Or halloween. And thanksgiving Because they r just meaningless holidays with no religious importance to us. So u can particiapate in ur families rituals and traditions. And just view them as empty rituals that u r doing for the sake of ur family. Like an elaborate game Where u pour flour on the floor first and then etc
  24. Banda sinsh bahadur lost because he allowed himself.to be in a seize. Once ur in that position. Its hard to win. Sikhs with him were almost starving to death. But it was.a.shame abt how many sikhs were killed peacefully after he was captured. It wouldve been better to have died fighting.
  25. All people are welcomed. The 4 doors are to.signal ppl from.any direction, any background etc. Like genie said above, ppl r all.equal. and can only be judged on.their actions. But religions are not equal!! This seems to be hard to understand so Are all countries equal? No! People of all countries should be respected and helped and treated good. But all countries are not equal! Some are dictatorshios, tyrannies, poor livin standards, cesspools. While others are democracies, give rights to woman and minorities, have good living conditions. So the way to judge countries is by their constitutions/laws/government and how the ppl of that country act. We can use these same standarda to judge religions. By their texts/laws/prophets and how the adherets act. Sikhs used to excel in both areas. But now the adherants dont act that well. But our texts, laws, and prophets are still amazing. Esp.when comoared to other religions. So sikhism is great but sikhs arent
